Are there any good players available for free? Flamini is the stand out polayer but we already have 3 quality DM's now so he's not needed, but there must some other good players for free?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Yea, if NC or MP read this I'd like yo declare myself available on a free. I'll even buy my own shirt! (might have to take out a new mortgage to fund it, mind)

We have made a verbal enquiry to chelsea over the "untouchable" lukaka. I don't know what NC is smoking, but I want some!

Lost

Believable12 Unbelievable7

Love this to be true!

But realistically he was one of the best strikers in the prem last year.
Better than Torres and Ba.
Chelsea aren't going to sell one of their best prospects. With service from schurlle/ mata/ hazard next season I'm sure he'll score 20+ goals.

Moses on the other hand is a player that I think is attainable and would be a quality edition! Can play either flank or up top!

Agree6 Disagree0

If the price is right I think we can get him, the lad shows a lot of loyalty to chelsea but can't see him getting 1st team with torres and ba, he's better than them but they are both golden balls like rooney

Agree1 Disagree1

I agree Lukaku and Moses will be class!

Agree3 Disagree1

Would be a cracking bit of business!

Agree4 Disagree0

If you think mourinhio will be outshone by Torres and Ba you are crazy!
Lukaku is the most like drogba in the Chelsea squad.
A player who will be right up jose's street!
Can see him getting a lot of game time if they don't buy another striker!

Agree4 Disagree1

Why do people keep making up rumors here? "We have made a verbal enquiry to Chelsea over the "untouchable! Lukaka. " First it's Lukaku, second NC don't go telling people about what he does. How about everyone telling where they heard it (paste the link with the post)?

Agree3 Disagree4

This came from a confirmed source that we made an approach to chelsea to see if he was available to buy. Lukaka is not guaranteed a 1st team place in JM plans however has had a meeting with him to sort out what exactly he is required to do this season. We do not know the outcome of this however for anyone that points towards comments like him wanting to stay & fight for his place then remember we heard the same comments from forren.

Agree1 Disagree0

Didn't Ba sign for Sunderland on loan not so long ago?

Agree1 Disagree5

I've heard this as well. and it isn't as preposterous as you might originally think. Lukaku wants to be playing regular football, especially with the World Cup next year. I'm sure that He will be seeking assurances that he will be playing regularly.

If Lukaku isn't in Jose's plans, he may well look to move.

With all that said, it doesn't mean he would chose us though, as I'm certain there would be numerous clubs looking to purchase him.

Agree1 Disagree1

To repeat.

I have heard that we have enquired only. Nothing more than that. Also, forgive my spelling of his name, it was late, and I was excited! He would be a beast for us. Would rather spend £20m on him than on Osvaldo, who is 27, swears at his fans and punches lamela in the face for not passing the ball.

Lost

Agree2 Disagree0

El Hadji Ba from Le Havre yeah. Not Demba Ba from Chelsea!

Agree3 Disagree0

@St Peter.

If I posted a link to a newspaper article it would already be a major rumour.

I heard yesterday evening that we have made an enquiry only. I did not say we have made a bid or that we have chatted to the players agents or anything else. You can take it or leave it. Like as not it will come to nothing and chelsea will say no (Lets be realistic, the lad is 20 and scored 17 goals. ) If they say no outright, we as fans will hear nothing about it and I doubt it will reach the press.

So take it or leave it, you are not getting a name. But we have lodged a quiet enquiry to see the lay of the land.

And also, anything is a rumour unless it is confirmed as fact. HTH.

Agree3 Disagree0

As Osvaldo was never in our plans to begin with.

I would rather spend 20mill on him than Damiao. Proven to score, a cracking striker. Would be extremely pleased.

Like everyone else though. Can't see it.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wow Lemela must have a really sore face if he punches him all the time for not passing!

Agree1 Disagree0

You 'heard' this on saints web last night by a person with contacts at southampton but said he heard this from the chelsea end and all we did was enquire.

clarkey saint

Agree1 Disagree2

Whilst there is a large part of me that does want to get involved in this one as I consider myself sane, to even think that this player will be sold to us is worrying for those who think it might happen.

I am a saints fan, I have a season ticket my first game was 1968 so I am a mature saints fan.

can we have some sensible chat about our club Please.
ed will leave this with you and your discretion as to whether you stick this one up on your excellent site

Just my opinion, but I don't want us to spend 20m on one player, Damiao is class but we have Ricky and I don't think he should be replaced yet, as he would be a bench warmer for Damiao, I'd rather we spent less on a striker and got a winger and CB too like Adrian 7m, Sinclair 5m/Ince 7m/Moses 8m and Dawson 6m/Anderield 6.5m, adds up to around 20m, we need cover and quality players who can rotate in and out of our squad and I think this would be far better for us.

Believable6 Unbelievable10

All good teams spend that kind of money on players. It's good for us - sign of intent.

Agree8 Disagree2

Don't think we will bring in 6 players who are not that special. Not a good message to the rest of our squad or the youngsters. (This was the sort of policy Rupert had!)

I believe any remaining signings will be high quality/young talent and will as a result come fairly expensive.

Saint Martin

Agree8 Disagree8

I think we should just sign Messi or Ronaldo. Win the league next year with a record amount of points and the. Win every possible trophy the following season and eventually take over the world. What you think?

BORING AS USUAL!
If you don't have a credible source or story, don't post rubbish!

Agree2 Disagree8

I started it with "Just my opinion" and as I don't work at the club I don't have source. I'm not saying sign all just 1 CB, 1 Winger and 1 Striker and I listed players I wouldn't mind, so you don't think Adrian, Moses or Anderwield are "special"? All would easily be in our team as would the others listed 20m could go further than 1 player and I think our youth academy will be used a lot next season to fill the RB and LB cover, all the players I listed are quality and relatively young except Dawson as I don't think adding experience to our young back line is a bad thing?

Agree7 Disagree0

We don't want players who will just rotate with our existing players and not bring in anything new and/or better. We need quality players who will not only be better than what we have but will also push the players we already have to be better and tbh none of the players you've listed will do that.

Some of our supporters need to drop the cover idea (we have adequate cover where we need it, that will only get better as they're used, buying cover won't allow that and we'll be worse off in a few years), we need to drop the idea of English players, when their are players twice as good for less that aren't english and we need to drop the fear of spending money

Agree3 Disagree5

We have spent money, but 20m is ridiculous when we could get 3 players for that and by signing these players and by our current signings I think we have shown signs of intent

Agree1 Disagree4

Ok well if you honestly think the we're to good for the players listed you're all unrealistic fans, drop the idea of english players when we're in english club? person, if all clubs thought like that we wouldn't have a national team and it's thoughts like that which is why our current national team is s**t

Agree4 Disagree3

Sorry actually unrealistic wasn't the right word, as I also believe we could get Damiao, but you're overconfident if you don't think players as good as Anderwield, Moses and Adrian will add anything to the team

Agree2 Disagree1

^ the way MP plays Moses wouldn't add anything, he's a winger, we play down the centre. We already have good enough CB's, too much change will disrupt it and we'll leak goals again. And Adrian, the guy who's scored 10 times in 70 games for AM? Think we can do better than that.

Agree1 Disagree2

To the OP-your valuation of each player (right or wrong) indicates they are all "available" for fees which are pretty modest for a club that is aiming to compete for top 6 in the EPL.

Saints already have players who are as good, if not better than them and IMO they do not offer anything above what we already have in the squad. I don't believe the club will be wanting to add squad players now but will need to add players with extra quality to an already talented squad. If they can find a gem for a relatively modest fee, then great, but the last pieces of a jigsaw to turn a mid table team into one challenging at the top do usually attract a lot of attention, and a high fee.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree0

Although I am wary of us spending huge sums on players, we have had evidence 20 miles away of what happens when it goes wrong. But if we are to compete at the highest level, we will need to have the best players, and that costs money. I'm pretty sure that supporters of the 'top' teams don't bat an eyelid over £20m £30m because they're used to having class players who do the job of making them top teams.
So NC and MP are sticking to the plan and they're having to start spending big. Yes let's spend £20m on Damiao, £7m Banega let's have a team that can compete!
Or let's go back to the Championship and win lots of games and have fun again?

Agree1 Disagree0

Adrian got 19, in his first season for Athletico Madrid

According to sky sports, we (and fulham) are going after Djamel Abdoun. He plays for Olympiacos in the Hellas Liga. He is a winger (which most people on this site are saying that we need) and he is very skillful and can definitely pick a pass. Only problem is that he is slightly old at 27 but in my opinion I think this could be a very good signing. Look him up on youtube and you will understand exactly what I am saying. Tell me your opinions on this.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

Hmm tv also reported that notts forest were after him so really unsure if we are definitly linked or just lazy journalism

Agree5 Disagree0

What difference does Nottingham Forest have to the credibility of the article?

Lenny

Agree2 Disagree1

This one seems to have been mentioned in a few different places. Has been classed as the best passer in Greek football for the last 3 years winning back to back titles with Olympiakos.
Didn't have a good time at City but wants to come to England.

Agree2 Disagree1

^Lenny - you are right mate, it doesn't have any impact on the credibility of the article, I was just suggesting that there are random clubs associated with him & linking saints to every players seems to be the current trend, As it happens this guy is not on our radar (at this stage) as all focus is currently on securing high profile players which we all know about.

Agree2 Disagree0

Steve de ridder looked amazing on YouTube. Don't want another Ali dia

My opinion is that this is a load of rubbish. Won't happen. Can't even be bothered to google this unknown player. Can't wait to read the next pointless rumour, makes my day worth while reading it.

I personally don't believe in this either. I am just posting what I have read.

I would love these players to sign instead
Christian Tello
Bas Dost
Darida
I know we haven't been linked to any of these but I think these would be amazing, your opinions?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Would love Christian Tello

Hey Ed, can you name the players that Southampton are interested in?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Everyone isn't it!! lol

Agree8 Disagree4

There are only 3 confirmed a present; benega, osvaldo & damiao. There are currently no "under the radar" proceedings however this is likely to change as the window draws to a close & players who were holding out for bigger clubs find themselves without options & saints can pick up some great deals

Agree1 Disagree3

Poch didn't confirm interest in Osvaldo, confirmed he was offered to us but that was it. How many times!

Agree5 Disagree0

Ever Banega won't be coming as we signed Wanyama and Poch said we won't be getting all of these guys.

Also I really hope we don't get this Algerian fella from Olympiakos, not sure he is good enough (sounds too similar to de Ridder deal)

We need whoever Cortese and Poch buy because they know what we need, they are the pro's here

Agree1 Disagree1

Spanish media reports suggesting Saints' Banega deal drawing closer. 10million is the rumoured amount. Good sources are very positive about the transfer, although nothing confirmed yet from any party.

Believable12 Unbelievable2

Think that is Euros.

Agree6 Disagree1

I doubt we still want him, I think we're more in need of a winger rather than another central, player he is class though

Agree1 Disagree14

Pochettino doesn't really use conventional wingers.

He likes to cram the midfield with AMs and CDMs and then push the fullbacks forward when attacking. Wouldn't be surprised if another AM like Banega is on the cards because his system is very work intense for our AMs so rotation is going to be key. We'd only have 3 out and out AMs if Banega joins.

Agree14 Disagree0

I hope we get him. This bloke looks real class. Would raise the amount of good crosses into the box tenfold.

I did hear that Celtic where interested in Sharp last week but forgot to post it

i did hear agian this morning that NC may try a deal with Billy sharp being used as part player + cash deal for hooper

CTS

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Hooper has expressed a wish to speak to Norwich.

Agree3 Disagree0

I do have an issue with this, would we not have offered Billy Sharp when we was trying to get Wanyamma?

Agree6 Disagree1

I wondered how long it would take to link Sharp leaving with Hooper coming. Hooper doesn't play Poch's pressing as he's a bit lazy so it won't happen!

Agree4 Disagree1

I don't think that the time it has taken for a hooper deal not to happen has any indication that we are still interested in said player anymore.

Generally from the majority of players we are either heavily linked with we either sign them or there is clear reports of bids being summited or transfer target has gone public about the interest or declining the move.

onesmugsaint

Agree3 Disagree0

Just a suggestion, billy sharp + 1.5m for Tony Watt.

Agree1 Disagree4

We are not in for hooper. our targets are in the public domain & 2 of those are moving along nicely.

Rumours that Southampton are set to meet Juventus representatives to talk with Fabio Quagliarella. Norwich also interested.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

I bet this doesn't happen

Agree5 Disagree2

Is that before or after we have signed Ronaldinho?

Agree3 Disagree3

I so wish this wasn't rubbish. Looking at his stuff on YouTube (yes I know, I know) his shots are incredible.

Agree3 Disagree1

TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting it so at least OP has credibility. Not sure he would fit our team due to age, can see MP chasing a young striker to lead the line, after Lambert wanes, this summer

Agree1 Disagree0

He's too old and doesn't fit the profile of a player MP/NC would target.

Agree2 Disagree0

We have Mayuka and Rodriguez though who are young. I would love this rumour to come good

Agree2 Disagree0

Quagiiarena has been linked with a move because Juventus has brought in two new strikers, so there is a lot of speculation that the strikers that are there maybe open to a move to get more playing time. I think he is a good shout, people keep thinking that he is too old and we will only sign young players, but this would be daft, a striker that has experience is what we need, Not youngsters that are still learning. Another experienced striker with Ricky would make good business sense, giving time for the younger strikers to develop.

Agree3 Disagree1

What he said. We need some experience as well as young legs. Experience means. or should mean. positioning and movement off the ball and this bloke is very good at it. Would be an excellent signing

Agree1 Disagree1
