According to A La Cancha (spanish) There has been a breakthrough with southampton and Ever Banega.

Believable16 Unbelievable4

I saw this too. Now I expect it to happen.

Agree9 Disagree2

OP I saw somewhere else that Valencia are having a press conference tonight announcing a new signing and also saying goodbye. (this is a google translate) I will remain pessimistic until proven otherwise!

Agree6 Disagree3

I can't find it but I hope this is true!

Lenny

Agree5 Disagree2

Bigger coo than Wanyama if we get him!

Agree8 Disagree1

He would be class, but again do we need him? We need a winger not a central player

Agree6 Disagree11

Of course we would need a player of benega quality. Would be a amazing signing please please let this happen.

Agree9 Disagree2

Already have three world class central midfielders. The money could be better used on an area where we are thin

Agree1 Disagree10

He is definitely a player we want. Would be amazing to get him. Very good player and would create competition for the midfield.

Agree9 Disagree0

Post link coz it ain't on there!

Agree2 Disagree0

We DON'T need a winger! MP likes to play centrally and overload that way, winger aren't needed, we create enough chances as we are anyway, we need someone who'll put them away

Agree9 Disagree1

Cannot believe people questioning this possible signing? Would be a real coup for the club! Just red the story, looks hopeful that we will pull this one off!

Agree6 Disagree0

World class? Come on let's not get silly. Still don't know what this fascination with wingers is all about, when did we last play with wingers? The way we play now the onus is on the full backs to get forward

Getting full back cover is more important at the moment than wingers

Agree6 Disagree4

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he's class but we need players to fill certain positions not just because there good, as CM is probs our strongest position now, we don't need him, poch said some would sign not all, I think it was him or Wanyama, we don't need both!

Agree0 Disagree7

We have 3 world class midfielders what? I sort of think Mata, Iniesta, Xavi etc. might have something to say about this! Our midfield is good but world class don't think so. You'll know the difference if we get Banega.

Agree6 Disagree2

Do we need ever banega?? Fast feet, hard to dispossess, tenacious tackler, accurate raking diagonals, lock picking through balls and the odd great goal! Naa we don't need him!!

Listen, mp wants" total football". Every player able to play every position. Wingers not needed. High pressing, pressure. Repossession and then great movement to create chances.

We are going to be at the forefront of football innovation. We've seen a bit but we ain't seen nothing yet. Mp has identified the players he wants and the Don will back him. We will win games with 14 players all with the ability to swap in and all singing off the same hymn sheet.

For Christ's sake trust and enjoy the ride

Agree12 Disagree1

Different class of player to what we already have how many of our midfield can actually beat players?

Agree6 Disagree0

Erm. trust me, we need him! Wanyama is a different player and I think they would complement each other. Would love to see this happen.

Agree5 Disagree0

Noticed a couple of people saying "fast feet" and that he "can beat people".

He is absolutely NOT that type of player. He's fairly slow and doesn't dribble much. Likes sitting in a pocket in CM finding space and pinging passes around. Think poor mans Xavi.

Agree3 Disagree7

I think he would be a great signing. We just need another 15 goal striker, along with Rickies and J-rods goals. The amount of chances we created last season to conversion rate has got to be quite poor. He would defiantly add a few more chances on goal, we just need to be finishing more of them.
MP knows what we need and I bet him, Cortese and the back room staff are working hard to get our targets.
Keep the faith. In MP an NC we trust!

Agree3 Disagree0

He is absolutely NOT that type of player. He's fairly slow and doesn't dribble much. Likes sitting in a pocket in CM finding space and pinging passes around. Think poor mans Xavi. ideal player for you stains

Agree0 Disagree6

Odd for Valencia to play Banega and make him captain if he is on the 'verge' of a move to Saints as some suggest.

Agree1 Disagree1

Banega plays further forward and more likely to compete with Davis / Gaston / Adam / Jay Rod and Punch for a place. Wanyama will sit deeper and compete with Cork and Morgan for a place. MP chose to play Davis in the pocket behind Lambert last season, a position that Banega is very comfortable in

Agree2 Disagree0

Can't beat players have you actually seen benega play I have seen him play for Valencia in the flesh and can tell you now this player would take the Mickey out of most of the premier league midfields as he has done against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Matey who said he's a holding midfielder your in a bubble mate snap out of it cause you haven't a clue what your talking about obviously!

Agree6 Disagree2

Ever banega dosnt dribble have u even scene him play? And saints fan saying we don't need lmao I've heard it all now the boy is a great playmaker touch is immaculate a world class player why would we not want him

Agree6 Disagree2

Didnt they make about 3 players captain a the same time?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's gone quiet over him because nothing is happening anymore as we got Wanyama, hence why we have been linked to different players since, we don't need both, we have been linked to wingers (Boubedouz, Hallfredsson and Abdoun) and strikers (Damiao, Bergessio and Quagliarella) no more talk of CM joining because we don't need one regardless of quality.

Agree1 Disagree4

Banega and Wanyama do NOT play the same role. Banega player an attacking midfield role Wanyama is defensive midfield. Therefore Banega would fit in to go onto our 'wings' or the central attacking role.

Agree6 Disagree0

I agree. We do need both players. One to go forward and cross, the other to defend and get the ball forward. To have two class players like this would be immense. Especially with what we already have.

Agree4 Disagree0

He would be class but I don't see the point in having wanyama schniderlin cork and banega we can also put ward prose and s. davis

Agree0 Disagree1

^ you don't see the point in having better players than we have already?

Agree3 Disagree1

I'm loving the banter here. Winger? is he a winger, I don't think so. He'll play here, he'll play there.

If Ever Banega signs he'll play wherever Mo-Po wants him to play, and do what Mo-Po wants him to do. Our side isn't about individuals, but its about TEAM.

If he signs great! If not, fine. One thing I've learned from being on here is that everyone has different opinions, and they'll always be someone who disagrees.

I've also learned that if you get a decent rumour, some people will always say it's BS, so perhaps I'll keep my info to myself in the future, and join the "Only done when it's on the OS" brigade.

Agree4 Disagree1

We have enough AM's we don't have enough wide players simples.

Liking the links of Innocent Emeghara to Saints. He is a young striker who knows where the goal is. and he's fast!

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Who speedy gonzalez

Agree8 Disagree0

Can't find any site which says we're linked with him, not that young, he is 24 and not good enough for Southampton!

Agree9 Disagree3

{Ed052's Note - 24 is quite young, isn't it?}

How bloody young have players got to be in your book to get in our team then?, behave!

st stuie

Agree7 Disagree5

Not if you're 21 ed.

Agree3 Disagree5

Doesn't matter about age, don't think he'd add anything, would rather give Mayuka a go

Agree6 Disagree2

There was a rumour in about 2011 that I found but nothing recent

Agree1 Disagree1

Shaw, mayuka, gazzaniga, Clyne, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Ward prowse, Cork, wanyama, Stephens, chambers, Cropper, Moore, Sinclair, gape, Robinson, isgrove, Lovren, Martin and forte are all younger than him, I'm not saying he's old but i'm saying that he's past the time when we can call him young when we have in our first a just turned 18 year old.

Agree3 Disagree6

Made up by sky Italia as is a lot of their stories. Our UK one is just as bad though, where did they get Mata and or Luiz for Rooney + 10 mill. Thought it was BS and hey ho a few hours later turns out to be BS. Biggest company and they still don't have a clue

Agree1 Disagree2

Lovren is 24.

Agree5 Disagree1

Lovren was 23 when we signed him lol

Contrary to all the "Damiao is on the cards" posts on here for the past 24 hours, Internacional have this evening publicly stated that no offers have been made for the player.

Until an offer is made and accepted, Southampton will not be approaching the player, so this means that very little progress has been made on the Damiao deal.

Expect Interncional to suggest a bid has been made to start a bidding war when a bid is indeed made.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Agreed there have been no offers, but there may still have been an approach. I'm sure teams don't just pick up the phone and say "I'll give you twenty million quid for that Damiao boy" or in the Don's voice "Ima going to maker you an offer you can'ta refuse!" or something like that. I think they have to approach the club to ask, if they are interested in selling then ask permission to talk to the player, or similar.
I'm still hopeful that negotiations are ongoing behind the scenes, also with Banega too.

Agree4 Disagree0

True there has been interest and an approach, but some people were insinuating Saints and the player were in talks and Damiao was 'happy with a move to Saints'.

Which obviously isn't the case and we've got further to go than that.

Agree0 Disagree1

It was a while back Internacional said no offers made in actuality. They did hint at a club making a more serious approach at one point which probably was us. Still doesn't make it likely we'll get him though.

Agree1 Disagree1

Spurs fan in peace. I like Damiao but I think you guys should be wary of him. He has no EPL experience, and you will have to pay over the odds to get him as his agent is very difficult to deal with. Apparently when negotiating with spurs the agent would just not turn up to meetings, and was very unprofessional in his overall conduct. It makes me wonder if they were ever interested in a Tottenham transfer at all or if it was just theatrics to try and drum up interest from other clubs. If negotiations with spurs are anything to go by, then you may feel like a transfer is imminent but then it falls apart at the last minute. If that drags on for the whole window then you may end up with nothing where you maybe should have been looking at other targets instead. I have a soft spot for Southampton so I don't want to see that happen!

Adam

Agree8 Disagree0

^thanks Adam & much appreciated. I don't know too much about how Spurs deal with transfers but I do know our chairman doesn't suffer fools gladly & any messing around by agents will see him divert tactics anyway. His dealings with wanyamas agents proved that he won't be messed around.
Good luck for next season!

Agree4 Disagree0

Hi Adam,

Saints fan here. Appreciate your input, always nice to hear from other fans (even those that stole a young Gareth Bale from us).

I absolutely agree with you. Must be a reason Spurs pulled out. His goals per game ratio is very average for a top player commanding an approx £20m price tag, especially as he's relatively unproven at a EPL-standard competitive level.

However, I support pursuit of this signing as a lot of success in football is down to prestige in the transfer market. This is a landmark signing attempt, a real coup and will put Saints firmly on the map for other clubs (and players) to see.

This, along with Ramirez, Wanyama and Lovren, will really show our muscle in the market and should attract other players who we have previously struggled with.

Agree6 Disagree1

Totally agree with Adam and would rather not have him for 20 mill. He is worth 15 mill tops and as I posted a week or so ago under a post about him we could get just as good a player for about a 3rd of the price.

Agree1 Disagree0

Now I may get a lot of disagrees from this, but I think we are after a certain mould of striker that may not necessarily get a bundle of goals. I saw resemblance between our tactics used under poch, to the way brazil played in the confed cup. Damiao/Fred Paulinho/spider, neymar/ ramirez oscar/benega.
I think pocc would value him more as to say avb who would want a more complete striker. Maybe to us he would be worth £21m

Agree1 Disagree1

There's something on him on news now. Apparently Napoli are back in for him and another team have registered their interest.

Agree0 Disagree0

If damiao was not injured in confed cup and he scored a few goals every one would scream he's worth more snap him up now

Real Madrid have agreed a deal in principle to sell rail Albion to Valencia on a 4 year deal worth £10mil. Could this possibly be paving the way for victor Ruiz exit to southampton, we are looking for another CB now forren has returned to molde.
Js

Believable2 Unbelievable5

We're not looking for another CB, if we were we would have signed one before letting Forren go

Agree3 Disagree9

Are we looking for a new CB to be on the bench for a few games, and never play a match at all? Cuz that's what Forren did. And you feel the need to replace him. If it was to replace Fonte or Yoshida, it would be different.

Agree4 Disagree2

He's going lg to Napoli not Valencia plus we can worry about a cb when we get a winger or someone to bring some goals in next season

Agree3 Disagree3

Lovren has replaced Forren. simples

Agree2 Disagree6

The way I look at it we must have sold Forren as Poch is confident that a CB is coming in, we need 4 decent CB's and Jos isn't up to it, makes 3.

Agree0 Disagree1

When I said to replace forren, I meant with him gone we are left with 4 CB of which 2 hoiveld is useless, yoshidas positioning can be suspect and fonte picks up injuries frequently. Furthermore before forren left everyone assumed that he and lovers would be the number 1 partnership. I wouldn't be surprised if we singed another CB and let hoiveld go.
Js

Agree1 Disagree1

Hooiveld is helping Wanyama settle in. He won't be leaving.

Lenny

Agree1 Disagree0

Cb peak late 20s to early 30s. Yoshida and lovren are relatively young and could flourish into a very good partnership. I would see how this season goes, then if need be buy another cb as hopefully a higher finish in the epl would help attract better talent.
Lets face it, hooliveld was good in championship, fonte looked ok when he played, I think that with waynama is enough back up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rail Albion?! didn't even know real madrid had a midlands train station on their books.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is Hooiveld helping Wanyama to settle in? I thought he was a grown man, and had two feet to stand on. Why do people keep assuming new players need babysitters?

Agree2 Disagree0
