Gaston will stay as he wants to prove himself in the PL.
Also heard we put in a bid for unsettled cisse at Newcastle. Would be a good addition.
As it stands southampton will finish in the top half and if we get three quality signing I personally think we should finish in the six.
We need a gk, cb, amc or forward of real quality

So much wrong with this. firstly doubt we have gone anywhere near Cisse. Secondly, no one is guaranteed to finish anywhere. We MIGHT finish top 10, but to say we will, is simply stupid

Prior to the Wanyama signing Mo-Po stated that Saints would sign 2 or 3 players.
we signed wanyama, so 1 or 2 remaining.
CAM and a Striker.
We won't be signing a GK, LB, RB or another CB.

Haven't heard anything about Cisse rumour-wise but he'd be a great signing. We need depth in the striker area and he has EPL experience.
Agree2

Dont think we need a GK yet, Boruc is a very good keeper, I would also include full back cover into that list.
Also pretty sure we won't go after Cisse
Agree4
Disagree3
I hope we have bid for Cissie would be a class addition to the team. Has proved he can score in this league. Benaga would be class. Not sure about needing another keeper this season maybe next year. Cb not really needed as wanyama can fill there if needed has played there afew times same as cork filling in at rb can do a job.
Agree3

Yeah no worries about gaston leaving he said he would even consider extending his current contract. Good lad he knows saints are going somewhere and I think well see the best of him this season
Agree3

I think we need a CB, Winger and Striker. Not a goal keeper, as we have Boruc, Davies and Gazzaniga but I'd love to swap Boruc + cash for Fraser Forster, after we have signed the priority positions listed above, but I doubt it.

Cisse was terrible towards the end of last season, ask any Newcastle fan!

Banega and defo another striker think spuds could be back in for that leandro matey from brazil because Benteke staying at villa. i'd defo take a punt on cisse the goals that guy has scored in prem are unreal, jus ask artur lol. Or even perhaps Ba, think hw would be amazing leading the line for saints both have prem experince so not what its all about.

Papa is not the type of player we need. I would go for ba, but cisse is over rated. Would you consider cisse to be an improvement on lambert?

The only positions I worry about a tad are wingbacks because they are so key in both our attacking play and defensive set-up.
Feel cover is a bit thin. People say 'Cork can cover RB/Fox is ok as LB cover' but I really think we need fast fullbacks to bomb up and down and provide some pace in our attack.

I love lambert as much as the next person but people here really over rate him. 'He'll get 20+ next season' 'he's better than cisse' 'damaio would provide good cover for lambert' I mean c'mon. He's good but he's not that good. I wouldn't be surprised if he loses his place to Rodriguez by the end of the season
Agree3

Don't think Chambers is as good as Shaw. For starters he's clearly not up to Clyne's standard yet and Clyne isn't really better than Shaw, Great to see we've so many young top notch full backs we can bang on about them like that though.

Cisse is s*** scored one good goal so everyone thought he was amazing. no he just got lucky
Agree1

Living up in Newcastle (but a Saints fan), I can tell you that Cisse is not the striker you think he is. He occasionally scores a belter, but more often than not fluffs his lines when it matters.
The amount of chances he misses is astonishing. He can't hold the ball up either as his ball control is a mess. Seriously, Saints should stay well clear.

Agree Cisse is over-rated, I do hope some of the kids like Chambers can cover the full backs. I assume Jake Sinclair isn't ready to step up to the plate yet? (I haven't seen any youth games so just going on hearsay)

Cisse is crap, also wouldn't want to sigh a player that is problematic because of his religion, attention seeker

won't take any bets on us signing Ever Banega as they've been informed that we are the only team in for him and that a fee has been agreed.

With all the various speculation / reports regarding Gaston & Benega, my personal view is that there is a possibility of Gaston going if we 1 get more or less what we paid and 2 we have a good likleyhood of getting Benega. Adding more weight to the equation is if there is any truth in roumors of us being interested in left side wingers in the shape Emil Hallfredsson another position Gaston can opporate in. Only time will tell and I can not see us having both these players on the books.
Agree2

Inter can't afford Ramirez. Simple as that.
Agree8
Disagree4
Why can't we have both on the books? Looking at it we will be playing a 4-2-3-1 formation and we can have Gaston, lallana, banega playing as the 3 behind the lone striker. J Rod can be back up for the striker as well as playing in these attacking roles and the same goes for Ricky and mayuka. Really after all this we just need a goal scorer who could bang in 20+ goals a season.

Can't see us selling Gaston as the club is improving and not getting rid of our best players, also wouldn't be surprised if Banega has already signed, let's hope MP can control him he's got a bit of a reputation but quality player

I think Mayuka would be much better utilised as a right sided winger as he has the pace. just needs to improve delivery and vision!

Ramirez is staying and we won't sign Banega, that position is not a priority, we need a CB, Winger and Striker first, then we can talk about signing better than what we have, after we have filled key positions.
Agree3
Disagree8
I think that's up to MP to say what we need, and get them in. He has said he wanted Banega & Damiao, so that's the positions he wants to fill. Lovren will obviously replace Hooiveld, while Fonte & Yoshida have to fight for the other CB position.
Agree3

I want us to keep gaston but I must say that something doesn't feel right with me. He doesn't fit in with the team. He doesn't play to the pressing style and doesn't last 90 mins. Why isn't he on the preseason tour? Maya is! Gaston only played a few days more.
Time will tell. Benega plays to our style. I wouldn't be surprised if we make a few million in selling gaston this window. Not what I want just a gut feeling.

^ we don't need a CB, if we did we wouldn't have let Forren go. We don't need a winger. MP likes the attack to play centrally with the wing backs over lapping, therefore winger aren't needed, Banega on the other hand is.

Dont need a winger either!

^^ we play with full backs! Wing backs are used in back 5's!
Agree2

{Ed001's Note - Barcelona play with wing backs as part of a back 4. You don't have to play with an extra centre back to use wing backs.}
Lambert will score 20+ this season no need for another striker.
Agree2

Not being funny, but these people that say "we won't sign 'insert name here'" because the position isn't a "priority" is ridiculous. Most fans act like control the team and decide where we make signings lol. Just because you don't like a defender doesn't mean Pochetino is sat there thinking he needs a new CB, let alone it meaning that he won't sign any other position. Let the club decide who we need and just put up with it. Your priorities for positions means nothing.

Thanks for the dose of common sense Ed001.

Wingers do not fit our style. Lallana, Rodriguez, gaston, punch, banega, mayuka, jwp, will be our attacking 3 behind a lone striker.
Cork, spider, waynama, Davis, banega, jwp, the central 3.
Shaw, fox, lovren, yoshida, fonte, waynama, Clyne, cork chambers our back four.
Lone striker essenstial as Ricky is only player that suits that role
Banega would be class addition

In response to Ed001 I understand your point, however, think Barca always look weak at the back. Big problem for their opponents though getting hold of the ball!
Agree0

{Ed001's Note - I agree, I never said it was a good system, just that it is the system they employ. I prefer defenders to be able to defend myself, rather than be such a focal point for an attack, they should be supporting it.}
Exactly Ed001, I just think with our high up the pitch style we need an old fashioned experienced two footed sweeper. Michael Svenson and Claus Lundekvam proved how central defenders can play off each other without panicking. Maybe Lovren and an other would give us this but I don't think we have the other on the books at present. Need a defender who can bring the ball out from defence and be confident the players behind him will cover.

Regarding the above poster about Lambert. I don't think it's a lack of faith, but more about having better options. Ricky is getting towards the end of his career, and while probably being fitter than ever, did struggle at times last season.
We need another, more clinical option up front. We dominated so many games, but couldn't take our chances last season. Ricky is such a clever player I would always back him to be in the side while fit, as would most Saints fans, but bringing in another option to put the game to bed will help us get points on the board.
All the domination, and pretty football don't count for squat if we don't put the ball in the back of the net.
