Saints are apparently discussing a deal for Liverpool's Brazilian defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva. That isn't a position I would have thought we would need another player for though myself.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

Just read the same thing. Under rated player in my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree5

That'll be Schneiderlin off, then.

Lucas wouldn't join to be back up, so I think it puts a big question mark over Wanyama's future too, as Koeman so far has only played one holding midfielder.

Lucas has had a couple of serious knee injuries and is a shadow of the promising player he once was.

Don't think this would be a great move for Saints.

Agree7 Disagree9

Hope that's not true, last position we need to strengthen

Agree9 Disagree3

Think if we were looking to strengthen midfield then we would move for clasie. Nothing in this rumour

Agree4 Disagree0

Actually, I can't see this being true. He's on £65k a week at Liverpool, which would make him Saints' highest earner, assuming he's not going to take a pay cut.

Are Saints really going push the boat out for an injury ravaged player in a position they've got plenty of cover for?

I suppose nothing should come as a surprise after this summer's shenanigans, but this would certainly be a weird transfer. DMC is not a priority right now.

Agree6 Disagree0

Doubt this is true but I really hope not. Never rated him at all. Frankly everytime I've watched him he's been crap. Don't think he's any better than spider, cork, Wanyama or JWP. Plus as previously mentioned he would be on massive wages. What's the point?

Anyone else worried this may be part of an exchange deal for Morgan. If so we would really be becoming Liverpool development squad

Agree5 Disagree4

So what if develope kids for Liverpool. If they continue you pay us 25 million a player then we can use that money to increase capacity and develop even more from our youth academy. Their will become a stage when our capacity allows us to compete with the top six clubs and then Europen football will follow. We have to do this in the correct way or we could end up like Leeds. Exciting times ahead, we just need to be patient

Southampton are linked with Valencian defender Adil Rami for a price tag of around 15million.

I personally think this would be a great signing.

Let me know what you think?

Believable4 Unbelievable11

Would be great but he went to Milan. However I don't know if it was a loan or sell

Agree8 Disagree3

Didn't he sign for Milan last month either loan or permanent?

Agree6 Disagree1

Would be a class signing but i'm sure he signed for Milan earlier in the month.

Agree5 Disagree0

Given that he signed for AC Milan a fortnight ago for £3.3m, I'm guessing probably no.

Agree6 Disagree1

he just signed for ac milan in july, if i'm not mistaken

Wouldn't call trying to get the best deal possible 'dithering'

Totally agree, I don't understand why they just don't go in and match the asking price straightaway. Its not like we're short of cash and the longer it takes the bigger the chance of another club coming in for him.

Agree9 Disagree4

Hear we go again. The two figures are so close, just pay the asking price!!

Agree5 Disagree6

I agree with Gingersaint. Nothing wrong trying to get the best deal. I just wish they would get it over the line.

Whilst normally I agree with a good dose of haggling. This time I think we need to bite the bullet if we want and need a player. Time is running out and other teams are circling. We need players in place and settled before liverhamptons game

Agree6 Disagree3

So, we pay asking price this time, even if we think it is inflated. Then next time? What happens? we get ripped off big time.

"A FOOL and his money are soon parted" is appropriate.

If a guy comes back from negotiating a deal and says "boss, I was successful. I did the deal at the price the supplier dictated and was successful."

So, the boss says "well done, have a bonus."

Oh no he doesn't. He says, "that was my money you p***ed down the drain. You are fired!"

We are SFC not LFC.

Agree6 Disagree6

We did move on we got Bertrand in on loan with purchase option of 10m. That bid is at least 2 weeks old, I believe we went in with a bid of 9 then upped it to 12 because we were led to believe they would sell at that but they just upped the price again. This is the problem with everyone knowing we are cash rich, they just try to screw you silly.

Agree5 Disagree1

Its a fair point you make But we are not the only ones looking at Rojo, Just do the deal.

Agree4 Disagree2

We have had our budget for players very largely publicised. If we offer 10m for him and the seller asks for 15 and we just match it straight away then every other player we are linked with will just rocket in value. We don't want to go splashing the cash here there and everywhere. We will be setting ourselves up for huge fees for everyone else. Softly softly catchy monkey.

Agree4 Disagree1

I agree with both sides but if you don't offer enough and lose out to another club with time ticking on we could be left short of options

Agree5 Disagree0

Using st martins management response to poor transfer deals 'thats my money you have pissed away etc' is this reason that liebherr got rid of nicola and then poch on the basis of signing of gaston and osvaldo.

A cool 22 million pounds worth.

Just a thought

a lot of people said osvaldo would be a bad signing
because of his reputation
but the heirachy did not listen
now his reputation is worse nobody will pay for him foretsaint

Nail on the head forest saint who in there right mind would buy him. us of course

connor wickham 5m.

Believable4 Unbelievable11

I like Wickham, but would prefer a J Rod type striker who can play off the main striker as well as playing up top on his own

Agree11 Disagree1

I'd like to see Danny Ings brought in.

Agree8 Disagree8

As chance would have it was speaking to season ticket holding sunderland fan yesterday at a conference.

mentioned wickham and was informed that he wants to go as Poyet will not meet his wage demands and believes that his attitude problem's will stop fulfilling his potential. Saints beware

Sky reported "Southampton boss Ronald Koeman says there has been no progress in his pursuit of Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, but the Dutchman is expecting to welcome fresh faces to St Mary's in the near future"
Taider Osvaldo swap is apparently very close (Echo)
I think the celtic players will join, mainly forster, when celtic get knocked out the champions league (currently 4-1 down after 1st leg).
Thats all I got.
Not too sure who the two players are that are expected on the weekend but southampton are good at keeps quite so might be a pleasant suprise!

Agree6 Disagree4

Probably nothing but negative news a la Ben Smith at the BBC and people still moaning about the parking at the Amex! Tomorrow might be a different matter though.

Agree3 Disagree2

Hopefully a pleasant surprise and hopefully some reinvestment into the squad in positions we are depleted i. e. CB

Agree2 Disagree5

The BBC is reporting that an "outline agreement" is in place to sell Schneiderlin to Spurs, with Arsenal also interested

I managed to park on a piece of grass directly opposite the ground, 5 minutes from kick off!

Agree2 Disagree1

After recent articles by the BBC about Southampton, I don't really believe in the stuff they're saying anymore.

Agree9 Disagree2

Osvaldo is set for an Inter medical.

Agree4 Disagree1

Sadly the Ben Smith BBC articles on players moving this summer have all come to fruition - so appear informed. Other articles which don't have a journalist willing to put their name to them have proved ill-founded gossip.

Agree3 Disagree4

Will the medical include emotional intelligence? if so he will be back on the plane pronto
