What you lot dreaming of. We already have the best striker in England the best keeper Poland has, great fullbacks awsome midfield and a terrific Frenchman give them some good cover and watch in August can't wait
Believable6
Unbelievable15
Urrr. What? Not sure Lambert is the best in England. Van Persie is in England. He did get the most of any English striker though. Still think we need to improve a lot for next season to achieve the ambition, especially seeing as Swansea seem to have made some pretty efficient signings so far. This league only gets tougher unfortunately.

Assuming you meant best English striker, I AGREE!
Although I think most non-Saints fans would go for Wayne Rooney so perhaps I'm biased.
Lenny

I watched them in April and May and if that's anything to go by, I'm not exactly looking forward to seeing them in August!

Ricky very underrated and perhaps unlucky to have spent most of his career in the lower divisions. He is 31 and far as I can see he is not getting any quicker.
Long term stuff for saints which should in the main mean bringing in good younger players and improving their game. Going down the route of bringing highly paid older professionals no longer wanted by their current club is not what we want.
My own feeling is that the prem will be harder than ever this year what with the money that teams have to invest in their squads. Mid table may be as good as it gets.

Massive drop in odds from 10/1 to 5/1 on Darren Bent joining saints.
Not sure how I feel about it. On his day he's as good as any striker out there. If we could improve his form and consistency.

Not sure if I would want him but he scores goals wherever he goes think we could get better and younger then bent

We will not be signing darren bent within this transfer window. fact & confirmed from source.

Lol, wheres you name mr "we will not be signing bent" pathetic
Agree3
Disagree12
Bent is 4/5 odds on to join newcastle.
3/1 fulham
8/1 cardiff
8/1 palace
hull, stoke and west ham are 10/1.
teams goes all the way down to 33/1. and no mention of southampton.
but I have seen that bet victor are offering 16/1 for saints to sign alex mcarthy this summer
Agree0
Disagree0
The other day I bet £25 (max allowed) on DiCanio being the first Premiership manager out of the job at 18/1 - as soon as I did the odds went down to 12-1 with the particular well known bookie. It does't take big bets. The bookies must get stung all the time by people really in the know, clambering to bet.

This doesn't seem like a Saints kind of signing to me (at least not these days, would have been a few years back). Anyway who am I to say.

Southampton reported to have tabled a bid for Leeds 19 yr old starlet Sam Byram. 7. 5 m.

£7.5million? No way is he worth that kind of money.

No chance will they spend the same on him as they did with Lovren

No way would it be 8. 5 Million.

3-4m max never 7.5m good player though
Agree8

Worth well more than that, is a better play than clyne, has similar features to bale at that age, would be around 10 million but doubt he would leave Leeds united for Southampton, leeds are a huge club

Haha better than clyne, as if, clyne is the best right fullback in the premier league by a country mile

I do hope you are right about wanyama. He is quality. If you watch him and watch a young yaya toure you will see that at that age they was very similar. Years ago when that tit Lowe was in charge he refused to sign yaya when he had the opportunity let's not let this one get away. Would also add cover to def as has played in the back 4 a few times during his short career to date.
Agree9

Of course they are.
In other news, World Cup to be held at st Mary's

Cmon we should sign ince! He would be great to have at the club. more young english talent like ince and Austin at the club

Saints may have signed yaya if Lowe wasn't in charge, but he wouldn't have cost saints £12mill and £85,000 per week lol

Yes Ince and Austin would be great signings, if not them Philips and Rhodes?
Agree2

Austin is probably going to Hull. Wanyama to Cardiff looks most likely, but I wouldn't mind seeing Victor in a Saints shirt if we could make it happen.
Agree5

Victor in a retro Liverpool shirt you mean.

I really like Charlie Austin but I fear he would be another Billy Sharp - great player but just not quite premier quality striker

I hope we add cover to our team through the championship with English players, spend a bit more on a Winger who should be good enough to rotate with our current wingers and then spend big on a striker, I don't see DM as a priority as we have Cork, Shneiderlin, Davies and Prowse. So I reckon Arron Cresswel 2.5m (Ipswich, 23 has had a good season starting a lot of games), Adam Henley 3m (Blackburn, 19 can play RB or LB made 22 appearances for Blackburn last season good potential) then as for a winger I'd like Scot Sinclair 6-7m and a big money striker, as much as I'd love Dalmio 18m, I don't see it happening for the fee we'd have to pay would be most of our budget, I'd rather get Morrata for 8m or Adrian 7m (as Athletico Madrid might be getting Obsvaldo) or even Bojan would be class, thoughts?
Believable5
Unbelievable7
I agree with some of what you are saying, but frankly, we should be signing bolasie and Ince. its a friggin no brainer. Any one who is young, english and in/near the champ team of the year should have been on the list. Especially after how well our League 1/championship team have done this season. any more who come in will be entering into a settled and more experienced team with far easier fixtures than last seasons start.
Agree3
Disagree6
We need players who are better than what we have, there's no point on buying a player just to sit on the bench, and unfortunately better players aren't English.
We do need cover for Cork and spider, Davis and JWP are more attacking players and as shown at the beginning and end of last season Cork and Spider are missed plus if we pull off either wanyama or nainggolan or someone of similar ability then spider can go forward a lot more
Agree8
Disagree0
As real madrid are after suarez/cavani we really try our luck with callejon excellent already and a great young prospect
Agree7
Disagree0
So, we bring in MP, who is used to S. American football and experienced in the Spanish League and--he is going to go out and bring in a number of players from the Championship!LOL
How do you think the majority of such players would cope with Saints style of play? Some would do so in time, but that's no good for the squad at this moment. Will be surprised if more than one player joins from lower English leagues.
Technically, even the best young players like Ince have been shown to be a long way behind some other countries players in the same age group-or did I miss the huge success our youth teams had this summer?
Saint Martin
Agree9
Disagree0
I don't see the point of raiding the championship for players personally, with the exception of Ince (off to Cardiff) and Austin ( linked with us!). We have a good crop of youngsters coming through and the academy seems to be as good as ever in terms of feeding the first team squad. That combined with Sensible but bold International signings is what will drive us on and up. COYS!
Agree4
Disagree0
Oh and also Pochetino favours using young home grown players as shown by his time at Espanyol and home grown also means English in this case but I think our big money striker will hopefully come from La Liga
Agree1
Disagree0
But what's the point on spending loads of money to sign players better than Shaw and Clyne when they are both easily good enough for our first team and have the potential to be top class players, yet you would have has waste money on unneeded players who maybe very good, someones got to sit on the bench and provide cover, no one wants to but somebody has to and would you rather have Shaw and Clyne on the bench? As some of our star performers last season, I'd rather they played to be honest, I still think Davies could cover DM but you're probably right as he has been played as an AM, and maybe St Martin if more premier league clubs signed young english players from the championship, through having premier league experience they'd fare better in big tournaments and as we have the money we should set an example for that and by us being successful other up and coming teams like us will be encouraged to do the same.
Agree1
Disagree0
Plenty of good cover for lb in forren and targett, rb Cork can play, and I can see us playing yoshida or maybe lovren there against the more physical teams again. I don't see us buying another full back tbh
Agree0
Disagree0
If were sat buying average talent from the championship just to sit on the bench and develop, just cause they're English, whilst other teams are going abroad and getting gems like mitchu, then we'll be left behind. Yes, having English players is nice but when they don't compare to foreign players who are better and at a lower price, I think we have to lose the sentiment we have for English players.
Agree2
Disagree0
Michu has been a sensation at Swansea but not sure he will be as effective this season - no will Swansea finish anywhere near top ten.
Agree0
Disagree1
I say we need to to be signing quality players in certain positions, where we lack players in and players that we expect to be in/ rotated with our current first team, so for a striker and DM, but we don't NEED to be spending loads on positions we just need cover for, so we could use the championship for certain positions
Agree0
Disagree0
But Fox is a perfectly good top third of championship player and everyone saw how out of his depth he was. There's no point in buying average players for cover, we need to sign players who will push every other player in that position to be better and to put 110% in, not to just sit on the bench. Especially since were looking to be a top six team, not one of those teams buy a player just to be cover

Cant see saints signing any
english players for some
reason there are a few about
Agree2

More likely to be heading to Hull than Saints. plus I would imagine that we are after proven goalscorers in a top league after our stutter over the finishing line at end of last season due to a goal drought!
Agree4
Disagree2
I've heard we have enquired about Scott Sinclair, but as for the championship, forget it. Prices for the best players are becoming over inflated. Look at Cardiff who are ready to spend 8.5m for Ince? Dynamo Kiev ended up buying Belhanda for that much.
Agree2
Disagree2
No we could easily spend in the championship, we are an english club and they don't need to be foreign to be good, we should be signing young english players, look at Villa Matt Lowton 3.3m, Westwood 2.2m and Joe Bennet 2.7m, they're not exactly huge fee and judging by their end of season performances I'd take any of them, they'd make good competition for places with a lot of potential, yes some players are over priced as clubs look to keep hold of their players but we can sign young English players if we look hard enough.
Agree2
Disagree3
Outside of Lowton, those players look to be playing at the right level - bottom half PL. The Chairman claims to be aiming higher than that.
Agree3
Disagree0
But that's all we need to provide cover isn't it? They're currently at that level agreed but at a young age they all have the potential to be top half players IMO which is what we would want
Agree0
Disagree0
Not quite sure why original poster's been downrated for asking a question haha but as far as the Austin deal is concerned I'd imagine we'll still be in the picture. I think one thing's for sure as far as transfers are concerned, from past practice with Cortese no-one really knows for sure so expect the unexpected
