That came out of nowhere, suggests we are freeing up the wage bill for an incoming signing.

Club has officialy announced clyne's departure. That's another money-grabber leaving. I have every confidence that cedric will come good. At least he doesn't lose his place to an out-of-form CB playing RB or a CMF playing RB as well.

Yes, glad the saga is over and we can now move on also.
I'm interested in players who want to play for Saints, who knows we may finish above Liverhampton next season

Apparently reports are saying he signed a £90k a week deal - wow Liverhampton do have money to burn.

Nice message he tweeted though to the Saints fans following his departure

notice how clyne's first interview is really similar to lallana and lovren's? It's almost like they're told to say liverpoo are a big club

What is it with the childish nicknames for players and clubs every time an asset leaves? If I found a company willing to add £1 an hour more I'd leave and so would the lot of you. These boys aren't even in the same league as our wages. Grow up and be greatful for the points, performances and hard work the players have given us in the past. Get a life

We can offer Clyne Europa league football, but so can Liverpool, but better money. I would go if I was him and not a saints fan.
What frustrates me the most is you can guarantee he will be a starter for England now regardless of his form for Liverpool.

Haha, you Southampton guys are great. I don't see the need for abuse towards Liverpool though. Our fans are even crazier. But everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Southampton does great every year and I enjoy watching their "footy". Great team.

Was just reading that cambasso is a free agent after single handedly keeping leister city in the league he might be 34 but he's also a football genius and as fit as any 25 yr old on his experience alone we should be snapping him up imagine how much wanyama reed davis and prowsy could learn from him

I'm afraid I disagree. We're now well beyond bringing in aging players who will only be able to muster 1 season at this level. You can't base a team around a player where you can't guarantee his legs will cut it in 12 months time.

We're being linked and completing with the 'cream of Europe' - We may not get them all, but you have to try and get players with huge potential and as Saints is now a extremely run 'organisation' we seem to only bring in players that have a good sell-on or market value if they either 1) do well and are approached or 2) don't make the grade, but still young enough to recoup a transfer fee.

Hi eds what have you heard regarding real potential transfers for saints. I have seen so many links which seem to have disappeared already. I know koeman did a great job with signings last year but worry this year is going to be a struggle especially with squad size for Europe. Are we going to be able to get real quality to replace shniderlin excuse the spelling and clyne cause I fear the squad is to week to survive Europe and do well in the league.

{Ed002's Note - Toby Alderweireld remains of interest to Southampton and to Spurs. Schar was looked at but has moved elsewhere. Thomas Meunier has been of interest but last I heard he was injured - so not sure. Clasie remains of interest to Southampton but there is interest from elsewhere. Marco Benassi is of interest. Interest in Bas Dost will have gone because of the price and it looks like nothing can be done with Javier Hernandez. Rafa Silva was of interest but there is a lot of interest from elsewhere and I don't see a deal as possible. Max Kruse was looked at but has opted to move to Wolfsburg.

Why on earth would anyone be worried about southampton signing players hahahah we made the best signings in the premier league last year and no one saw any of it coming, get a grip! By the way I read the original post in winging teenage girls voice just so you have an idea of how it came across

Perfectly sensible original post. Not whining at all. I would like to suggest that if you are unable to reply in a civil non-attacking manner, that don't bother, that sort of attitude has got us in trouble before. let's encourage more posts!!

Completely agree with Stuie76, after last year I think it's ridiculous people are actually worrying about signings! After last season I could name 3 or 4 users who said we didn't have enough squad depth or quality to compete and some even agreed that we could get relegated, what are they saying now? We need to just relax and let the staff do their brilliant work as usual, COYR!!

I'm sure Saints will have enough to compete, but I just can't see them progressing when they're downgrading in key positions. Stekelenburg is a has-been keeper, Cedric isn't as good as Clyne. If it's true that Ogbonna is their alternative transfer target if Alderweireld falls though, he's a very average player indeed.

And, try as they might, there's no way they'll get anyone in that's on a par with Schneiderlin.

I think they'll be fine next season, but I doubt they'll be rubbing shoulders with the top six again.

qwertyell, please remember that post in 6 months and we'll see what you're saying then

Sorry qwertyell I have to disagree. Clyne has been below par for much of the second half of the season. There's a reason why so many sporting fans regret Cedric leaving and why he's touted by many to be portugal's number one RB. Stek is still in his early 30s, relatively young for a GK so it's not like his career is going downhill from there. Ogbonna was a beast before moving to Juve, where he couldn't make it pass Chiellini, Bonucci, and Barzagli (And who could blame him?)
Personally (If we do go after him) I see Clasie edging out Spider. He has excellent reading of the game, and isn't afraid to get dirty. He's more tenacious, and has better technical ability.

after a couple of upbeat months old qwerty is back to normal. The goalkeeper is a good temporary for Forster, Clyne was definitely not the same player in the second half of the season( I could actually understand why woy left him out last time) and Cedric looks pretty useful. And I am not sure you know as much about the centre half position as RoKo. I think we might find we are lumbered with Toby again. Come on qwerty we have a couple of great young prospects we have got rid of the rotten apple albeit at great cost(a pochettino cockup) and a player who doesn't want to be here has left a space for one that does. I cannot wait for JayRod and the rest to get started.
