Hi all. Reading who people think we should buy in the summer is really exciting seeing quality names being mentioned. Today in the paper it is said Danny Welbeck wants out of united. Although we are not mentioned I think he is a quality finisher given the chance and can play the same role as J Rod. At 20 million he could be the player that we need to bolster our attack. I would also go for Danny ings as an extra option up front. Steven Coulter has been mentioned which would be another great addition to our squad aswell as Zaha. One problem we have had this season is we don't seem to have a plan b. With someone like Zaha playing on the wing he can make things happen and get crosses in for the likes of Lambert or J Rod or if we got them ings and welbeck. Other areas we definitely need to improve on is defence. Lovren and fonte have been great this season and when on a run big vic can control everything infront of the back 4. As above Coulker would be fantastic and I would keep yosh and drop fonte to the bench. Jos would have to go though as we have youth that can always fill in if needed. Then we just need cover for left back.

I agree with everything except from 1: Danny Welbeck is not worth 20 million. And 2: Why drop Fonte to the bench. He's been fantastic for us this season.

Agree19 Disagree3

I wouldn't pay 20m for Welbeck in a million years! But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to see him at Saints, as he's a good young player who can play out left or on top on his own, I agree that we need another quality CB, not to necessarily replace Fonte, but to add competition, one thing not mentioned was a goal keeper, which I think should be our number 1 priority personally

Agree11 Disagree1

I was going to post something on this very subject. A lot of people have quite some negativity towards Welbeck regarding his strike rate and what not at United, but given his situation there (not just being played wide but being played as a winger rather then an inside forward) it's hardly surprising. His record for England is actually very good for another. D'you know who he reminds me of? Rodriguez. He has the same kind of positional dynamics as J-Rod as well as being a fairly similar type of player. Put in perspective; a forward line up of J-Rod, Lambert, Welbeck and Lallana behind would have real penetration, pace, height and strength. Also I doubt he'd cost £20 million. I'd reckon barely more then £10-12 million. And considering it was mentioned on the beeb, who don't exactly partake in transfer gossip, I'd say it's very credible he'd like to leave and there is probably only 3-4 teams in the EPL who could/would sign him (Everton, us, Spurs, maybe Arsenal). If (big if) we were able to sign him and Ings (and not lose any of our attackers) I'd say we'd have one of the best attacks in the league, and all English to boot!

Agree5 Disagree1

Welbeck would be a fantastic buy! Great skillful fast player with good vision and is not affraid to shoot from distance. We don't score enough goals from outside the box. He would certainly add an extra unknown quantity to our forward line with those nifty little tricks he does to turn defenders inside out! As for any signatures this summer its going to take a lot to get anyone of Poch isn't around! Especially as Moyes has alledgely been sacked they will be look at him to help sweeten the Shaw/ Lallana deal! Fingers crossed though!!

Once again not a rumour but it is clear we need a goalkeeper and a striker. Would love to see an attempt to sign Marshall or schmeichel or ruddy and striker wise we keep talking about lukaku and People like that but they have either champs league football and high wages also we cannot forget we only been promoted 2 years ago names like Ings or bony would be good. Someone like a lambert who is strong and good in the air but more pace as well also players established in the prem. and the southampton way of not signing players with bad reputations like puncheon and osvaldo

Believable6 Unbelievable1

How's Puncheon got a bad reputation?

Agree3 Disagree4

Puncheon at lower leagues and I'm guessing still now is known for thinking he's better than everyone else and badly behaved, I think that's why he left the saints which is a shame

Agree4 Disagree2

I wouldn't say he has a bad reputation though, nothing like Osvaldo's aha

This is not a rumour but after I think in the summer we should go for sidwell and wittingham as Cardiff and Fulham will probably go down. What do you guys think?

As a team finishing in the top half we need o be looking to players who can add something to the squad. II feel both named players don't do that. I would much rather see a younger player given a chance than have an older player use up space. Furthermore I don't think they aresuitable because CM is not really a position we lack strength or depth in with schneiderlin, wanyama, davis, ward-prowse, cork, reed all able to play there.

Agree2 Disagree2

CDM is one of our strongest positions, so we would have no need for Sidwell and personally I don't think that Whittingham is the type of player we need, we need an attacking player with pace in that position, whilst Whittingham is similar to what we already have, also agree that we could get someone younger and better than him, as if we are to finish in the top 8 we will need to sign better players than that

Agree6 Disagree0

I'd say look at players like Marshall and caulker but we need squad depth desperately so these 2 would be great for that

Agree10 Disagree2

We need someone who has the skills of Lallana and who works as hard as Davis, wittingham and sidwell aren't that

Caulker would be a great signing but with Cardiff more than likely to go down I think a few clubs will be in for him and we might end up paying over the odds.

Marshall might be the same, would be a good signing - could be expensive though. although I'd rather us sign someone at most 25/26 who we can keep for a while and establish themselves as a consistent no. 1 rather than needing a new 'keeper again in a few years

but Valdes and Poyul are out of contract in the summer - wouldn't turn my nose up at them, even on a short term deal

Agree1 Disagree1

I think both would be quality signings, but someone like Fraser Forster who's a bit younger and has proven himself in the Champions league to be a top player.

Agree1 Disagree2

I think Puyol and Valdes would be possibly the worst signings ever. Get the Zimmer Frames out of the changing room!

Heard a rumour today that Dan Petrescu is lined up to replace MP in the summer after he lands the Spurs job. Has anyone else heard this?

I still can't see how spurs would be an attractive "promotion" for MoPo. we are only a few games behind them and he can work with a team he has shaped here and will continue to shape. our style has been praised and always linked back to him. why not push and develop it further.
