the rumors are the new manager will try and convert danny fox into a left winger. that's what the big bold security guard on the gate at staplewood told me.

Believable8 Unbelievable11

I doubt Fox is long for our club...

Agree9 Disagree1

I sincerely doubt a security guard would know any behind the season info relating to how Saints will set up.

But will expect he'll play Ramirez in the middle. So may end up putting Fox out wide instead. Who knows..

Agree9 Disagree2

Well I think I saw Fox doing shooting practice in that training video they put out yesterday - so it it possible...
SaintWestie

Agree3 Disagree1

I never said that......????

SaintlySecurity.

Agree3 Disagree6

I hope this is true and hope he doesn't drop shaw i'd prefer if fox was sold

Agree6 Disagree0

This shows exactly what's wrong with our fans. A huge percentage know nothing about football. Why would we sell fox? Seriously. Yes Shaw starts, and rightly so but what happens if he gets injured? What happens if he needs a break. You just sold you're only natural choice LB. Think about it before wishing players away.

Agree8 Disagree3

Reeves, Taylor and my nan would be available and better than Fox

Agree6 Disagree3

To the guy that thinks fox is the only replacement LB, Ben Reeves, Clyne and Yoshida can play there easily and Matty Targett or Matt 'CAT' Young can easily be promoted to bench to act as cover.

Agree3 Disagree3

Shows exactly what you think, fox is prettyr damn far from being a "natural left back"

Agree4 Disagree1

Obviously your a person because fox is terreble and we could play clyne left back and richidson right back

Agree3 Disagree1

Fox was the main weak link when he was in team start of season, very nervous on ball and long balls either going out of play or to opposition, good championship player tho, and yes totally agree reeves or clyne to cover shaw if injured

Agree2 Disagree1

Clyne got ripped a new a**hole when he played left back at Everton earlier in the season. Why would Richardson at RB be an improvement on Fox? We haven't really seen him at the higher level. The point of the post was referring to reverting Fox to a LM which could work based on Fox's delivery into the box. We've lacked consistent delivery into Lambert since Lallana has been out injured. The more quality crosses that are delivered into Lambert the more goals we will score.

Agree2 Disagree5

When clyne first played left back vs villla fox started and he was c*ap
so clyne went left back and he scored and we scored for goals without conceding

Agree5 Disagree0

I would have Fox as LEFT BACK on my team sheet.... Left back in the changing room.

Agree7 Disagree1

Ben reeves got bullied when he played lb at norwich at home i'd rather play further forward attacking mid maybe he did spray around nicely againts millwall last year

Rumours going around that two espanyol players - a 31 and 33 year old - are coming to Saints. I sincerely hope this is not true.

Believable9 Unbelievable5

Doubt it

Agree0 Disagree2

Why? Experienced players in the right position wouldn't be a bad thing.

Agree9 Disagree4

Yep, Simao is one of them apparently.

Aussie Saint

Agree3 Disagree1

Shall we try applying the 'experience' argument to Southampton...
This game is called who would you rather have, on the left will be the experienced player, and on the right, a younger player in a similar role;

Guly vs Ramirez
Fox vs Shaw
S Davis vs Schneiderlin
Hooiveld vs Yoshida
Lambert vs Rodriguez
K Davis vs Gazzaniga
De Ridder vs Lallana
Richardson vs Clyne

I for one think with our club the blend of youth to the right is far superior in talent and effort to the 'experience' on the left, probably with the exception of Lambert but Rodriguez has looked very sharp too this season especially as of late. Other than that I award the win to the 'kids' of Southampton. They seem more mature in footballing terms too.

Agree5 Disagree1

You need a bit of experience to go with the youth players. Just take a look at Villa.

Agree4 Disagree0

De Ridder and Lallana are of very similar ages 25 and 24 I think and lallana will be more experienced for playing more games other than that you have a good point

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm not saying the more 'experienced' players are better than the youth. Its always good to see new kids that are coming in better than their older counterparts. You have assumed it just means older in your argument though. Top flight appearances also count as experience. And when you look at the players you have chosen as the experienced players, are you telling me they cannot be improved?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rodriquez and lambert will start up front together are new manager said he likes attacking football.....?

Agree1 Disagree1

Espanyol only have Diego Colotto 31 & Simao 33. Who fit your profile don't know much about Colotto

Agree0 Disagree0

So Rod's better than Lambert? Wake up.

Agree4 Disagree2

Did you read the paragraph at the bottom. I said with the possible exception of Rodriguez and Lambert.

New Southampton first choice coach mauricio pochettino has been told he will have a lot of funds to add to his squad. They will place an ambitious bid for as Roma forward Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.

Believable11 Unbelievable10

The funds part I imagine could be true as we would've needed to use something extra special to attract him. But I don't think we'll see Osvaldo play for us any time soon.

Agree7 Disagree4

Ahaha this would be incredible but I really doubt it, more likely is Coutino who was superb at his loan spell with espanyol and would be a great signing

Agree6 Disagree2

Just watched this guy on utube if this happens wow

Agree3 Disagree2

With the talented coaches and scouts Southampton has, I'd like to mention two Irish League players, Boyce and Gormley from Cliftonville FC, if they went to Southampton you would have two very good talents, very exciting players.

Agree1 Disagree10

Are you having a laugh cliftonville lol

Agree9 Disagree2

Joan verdu joining saints .

Agree4 Disagree6

No laugh, bring the talented young ones through the system, Southampton are famous for that, from all corners of the UK, Boyce was with Wer/Bremen but was just to young and homesick, the talent is there for all to see

Deal for Phillippe Coutinho could be completed soon. Southampton have had an offer of around €9.5million (around £8million) accepted according to reports in Italy. The offer from liverpool of €8million (£6.7million) was rejected yesterday so Southampton stepped up the bid to secure his signature to avoid loosing out on the young starlet. This would be the second signing of the Pochettino era.

We could also see Bologna central defender Frederik Sorensen join before the window shuts. Pochettino values young talent and sees the young Centre back as a good potential partner to Forren.

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Be very happy with those two, but Coutinho is not straight forward. He could be difficult to get clearance to play in England.

Agree2 Disagree0

Where do you get your reports in Italy?? I can't find a thing. Would love this to happen as we are still short a little quality

Agree2 Disagree1

Phillippe Coutinho knows Pottechino well as he was on laon at espanyol last season so a deal is on the cards look out to for welington nem !!!

Agree1 Disagree2

8 million accepted ? they rejected 8mill from liverpool yesterday

Agree2 Disagree3

Pottechino?! whatever else is he going to be called?

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho looks set for Liverpool - advanced talks going on.

Agree2 Disagree5

Pottechino? Isn't that what they call smart casual trousers in Stoke?

Agree5 Disagree0

Advanced talks?-oh yes, like the ones for Ramirez!

Agree5 Disagree0

Man I loved Nigel to bits and I was shattered when I herd but these are very exciting times with all these quality names flying about. I hope it's not just a bunch of bored people getting off on telling tittle tales on the net. I can't wait til the end of january. As I said I loved Nige what a top bloke and how it all went down was wrong but some credit must go to NC for having the walnuts to make a hard decision regarding our future, this new guy sounds the real deal let's hope firstly we stay up then who knows where after that. Exciting times though lye ahead one way or the other.

Agree9 Disagree0

Liverpool are upping their offer and Coutinho has indicated he'd been keen on a move to Anfield. Hold your horses, this one could go down to the wire if we really want him..

Agree0 Disagree0

He's off to Liverpool apparently. Fee still not agreed but Personal terms not far off.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to raid former club Espanyol to add experience to Southampton. Also because RCD Espanyol are deep in financial trouble so he knows he can get the players on the cheap.
Players I've seen linked so far:
GK-Cristian Álvarez
GK- Kiko Casilla
DF- Diego Colloto
MF-Simāo Sabrosa
MF- Joan Verdú

Obviously they won't all happen. But wouldn't be suprised to see at least on if these in a Saints shirt come Febuary 1st

Believable8 Unbelievable7

I'd rather we took hector moreno

Benjie

Agree4 Disagree1

I really do not see the point in these players coming to St Mary's. Espanyol have been struggling in La Liga so not sure why these players would be much use to Southampton.

Agree4 Disagree4

You missed Juan Forlin off the list. 25 yr old CB.

Agree4 Disagree0

Espanyol are useless, I hope we don't "raid" all their players. Only one I would take from that list is Verdu.

Agree5 Disagree0

Makes sense at least he knows these players and can understand what they are saying.

Agree0 Disagree1

Alvarez is class. Hope so.

Agree5 Disagree0

Surely we want better than we already have. To that end one word comes to mind when looking at the list of Espanyol targets: Who?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lot being said about espanyol players not being good enough because their league position. In sure we would welcome a few QPR players at our club.

Agree4 Disagree5

You mean the money grabbing players who used to be up to the Premiership about 5 years ago? No thank you. I don't want to see the QPR team turn out in saints shirts. I can't think of a single one I'd want playing for Southampton I mean I don't think they have any real improvements on what we already have.

Agree3 Disagree2

Regarding all the comments on Espanyols 'poor' players, Michu came from Rayo last season who struggled. he's doing pretty well.

Agree6 Disagree0

So you wouldn't want players like Remy, Julio Cesar, Grenaro, Hoilet... play for us? QPR have one of the best squads in the league and deffinetely shouldn't be where they are

Agree2 Disagree5

Perhaps would accept Remy but have to see how he does first.

As for the like of Cesar, he's too old and past his prime. Imagine he'd be similar in standard to Boruc. Grenaro hasn't impressed me at all. Hoilet has done absolutely nothing for them. I mean he's just sort of been there and pretty unhelpful. Waste of space.

There back line has been more leaky than ours has and it doesn't seem to have the quality in it of ours! There midfield and attack are all pretty much former class but players who due to fitness and age are getting worse and having their careers wind down while the youngsters seem to have peaked quite young for them. Probably as they have nobody pulling them forwards. If we are looking to improve we should look to the better players around. Look to top clubs or European teams. That is how we improve.

Agree1 Disagree1

They have a squad of mercenaries, unable to operate as a team. I see a short term improvement for them and then they will fall to pieces IMO.

Agree6 Disagree0

Granero and Hoillet have both been useless signings.

Agree4 Disagree0

Id have simao in a heartbeat just for the expirence alone

Agree0 Disagree0

Adel tarrabt ???

Saints are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Haris Vučkić on loan until the end of the season

Believable3 Unbelievable21

Vukic is injured and out for the season

Looks like the Astori deal is completely dead now, if there was one in the first place.Still looking for an attacking midfielder leaving me with the feeling Puncheon will be off in the summer

Believable3 Unbelievable10

We need another attacking midfeilder to provide competition

Agree2 Disagree1

Coutinho looking more likely with pochettino in now

Agree6 Disagree1

We know nothing of the Astori deal, no idea if it is dead or not.

Agree4 Disagree1

We won't get another CB now Forren has signed, maybe in the summer but not now, now we need a winger and maybe a DM or striker but that's not urgent

Agree1 Disagree1
