Southampton to agree a deal with Man Utd for Luke Shaw at the end of the season. £25 Million plus Alexander Buttner, Buttner is seen as a straight, young replacement for Shaw.

Believable3 Unbelievable29

Admittedly we did go for Alexander Buttner but he is not the replacement we need

Agree10 Disagree4

Vinman, you clearly do not know what you are talking about!
Apart from your other "facts" being rubbish, NC would not pee on Buttner now if he was on fire! Dream on (Chelski are having to, don't see why you should be any different. )

Only £25million and Buttner? Absolute nonsense. Shaw is worth far more than £20million (the combined value of Buttner and £25million). His future is at Southampton for several years to come and Moyes knows he doesn't have much chance when it comes to taking him from us anyway. Shaw knows Southampton is the best place for him to develop.

Agree8 Disagree1

Also Shaw will only leave us to go to the team he has supported all his life, which is Chelsea. Never going to move to United. And that won't happen for about 3 years! he's the natural replacement for Cole!

Agree9 Disagree2

In respect of this rumour (which I don't see happening in the slightest) if Bale is worth 100 million then Luke Shaw at this stage is easily worth 50 million and still developing. However, we are building a team and have a realistic vision for the future, so selling/exchanging our best players is unlikely - we, thankfully, are no longer governed by R. Lowe and have moved on from that era -

Just because he is a young saints left back doesn't make him Gareth bale. I'm not being disrespectful to the lad because he is class, but he won't go for 50 million!

The problem with young kids and 'price tags' is that in part you are paying for what you see, and the rest of the price tag is based on potential. It's a little bit like reading a crystal ball. Who knows what is going to happen, and any player could have a career wrecking injury the next time he walks on the pitch. There are many kids that have the ability to get top the top, and they need that chance to shine, but the main factor for a wonderkid to develop into a worldbeater is the kids ability to ignore all the hype, and the trappings that go with such fame and pressure at an early age. Then they need that extra bit of determination to work on their game to become one of the best players in the world. Bale had that. Ronaldo wanted to be the best at an early age. The one thing I am pleased about is that Shaw seems to have the right attitude, and seems extremely humble considering the hype surrounding him. That is huge credit to Luke and everyone around him.

Will he become one of the best players in the world? Who knows. What is certain is that he's working on his game to get forward with those lung-bursting runs, takes a mean free kick, and showing signs that he has all the right attributes to become a world beater, but he has such a long way to go.

All I know is that our whole defense yesterday was immense, and any novice looking at the game would not have been able to point out which player was only 18 years old.

Agree4 Disagree0

I would just point out, while Shaw may not currently be worth £50million, Southampton will not sell for less than a very high offer like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not a long term replacement he's 24 and shaws 18. A long term replacement is 17 year old Matthew Targett he's a great player in the academy arsenal Chelsea and Man Utd wanted him at one point. Great player. Büttner rumour is rubbish

Agree3 Disagree0

I'd also imagine that Matty Targett will become cover for Shaw, and have serious reservations as to whether this rumor has any truth. For me it's more of a wish list. One thing is for sure and that's that I pity anyone trying to do a deal for any of our young stars with Nicola Cortese.

Agree1 Disagree0

Just to confirm with has what been stated above Luke Shaw was born in West London and is a Chelsea supporter. That is where he will end up I fear.

Buttner, let's see if he gets a game tomorrow for Utd. I would guess that he has had less than 6 starts in the first team at Utd since he has been there.

You were a greedy boy Mr Buttner you would have a lot more starts if had signed for us.

Agree4 Disagree0

Some naive comments here. Shaw is worth about £20 million and players transfers aren't dependent on which club they support. Otherwise Rooney wouldn't have left Everton

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a £25M bid for Saints left back Luke Shaw.
Chelsea and Tottenham also interested

Believable1 Unbelievable16

Speculative rubbish. What are Man Utd still after Leighton Baines for then? Their captain, Patrice Evra plays left back too. Why would they want 3 left backs?

Agree11 Disagree2

And what happened to Buttner?

This is a rehash of speculation that has been around for 12 months. Luke is a bight lad, he knows he would not get the sort of chance to play in the EPL week in and week out at these other clubs that he gets with Saints-and this is what he needs to fast track to the senior England squad.

Lovely, let them have shaw so we can buy Baines for £25m

Agree0 Disagree13

Why on earth would we want Shaw to leave so we could buy Baines?

Baines has a couple of years left at top level whilst Shaw is only 18! Good job that NC knows a little more about financial issues.

Saint Martin

I would imagine every football team in the world is interested in luke shaw

The united bid is £20 million over 3 years. No player exchange and it's a rumoured bid, no actual bid has been made although United registered their interest in Shaw ages ago.
