Burnley striker Martin Paterson is the striker on Southampton boss Nigel Adkin's radar following the failure to sign Gary Hooper from Celtic.

Paterson was signed by Adkins for previous club Scunthorpe United and is believed to be the man Adkins now wants to fire his team to promotion.

Burnley are believed to be willing to let Paterson leave in order to keep Rodriguez at the club, and the striker is believed to be available for around £1.5 million.

Don't know about this rumour, but in papers today it stated Saints are going to sell Luke Shaw for around one million,
hope this is just paper talk, don't want to doubt but seen too much of this in our past to feel easy about it.We need our
brightest prospects for our future not the big three or four in the Prem.

Agree8 Disagree6

He will never pass a medical

Agree4 Disagree4

He's crap!

Agree8 Disagree5

We wont sell shaw

Agree10 Disagree0

Shaw wont go, ignore the papertalk, adkins made it perfectly clear, in fact more clear than lennon made it over hooper, that we wont sell him, we want youths in the team and a homegrown team, we cant do that if one of the big four gets a bit moist over the chance for a new youngster. Perhaps people like wenger would do better to stop focusing on the future and get some present players in. Also, last bid was reported 4mil, so doubt 1mil would be accepted :p

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke shaw is not goin anywhere!! he is a quality player and adki8ns likes him and wont let him go for 1m maybe 6m

As the great Craig Burley said "Hooper to Southampton................he's better than that!"

Agree10 Disagree12

Who's Craig burley

Agree13 Disagree6

Whos tadanari

Agree4 Disagree9

Hooper farce ? - more like bad loser. Celtic and the player were fully entitled to say no so you ought to be a bit more magnanimous

Agree4 Disagree6

You must have heard of craig burley - he helped make setanta sports and scottish national football the successes they are today

Agree10 Disagree4

Craig burley is an idiot

Agree12 Disagree4

Scottish national football a success?

Agree8 Disagree3

Exactly - its called sarcasm mate!

Agree6 Disagree1

I tell you that Craig Burley knows what he's talking about

Agree5 Disagree10

Here's what they had to say in Scotland about him:

Can ESPN justify the presence of their co-commentator?

Craig Burley, notorious doom lord of the co-commentary brotherhood, appeared on Talksport this morning with ex-Celt Alan Brazil and soon worked himself into a proper grumble on the subject of new Rangers signing El Hadji Diouf.

"I commentate on some of the SPL games and I'm gutted that I'm going to have to at some point commentate on this fella."

Many within the game - not least supporters of Rangers - find troubling many aspects of this transfer. But Burley seems to forget that he is not merely a rent-a-gob or newspaper columnist. He is, in fact, the co-commentator for ESPN, and entrusted to provide analysis and wisdom alongside the more professional and sensible Derek Rae. Both the Club and the player may wonder if Burley's impartiality may be in question. Regardless, the ex-Celt then went on to make further comments which may be more serious.

"The sooner he leaves our little island here in the UK on a single ticket somewhere it will not come soon enough for me."

Less charitable observers may wonder if this is a racist comment. At the very least it is a questionable choice of words.

Burley has chosen a very odd time to allow his mouth to run away from him. Recent criticism of and keen attention to the words and actions of those in the spotlight of the footballing media hasn't ended well for all. Burley has often found himself the subject of fan and fellow media discontent over his constant stream of negativity and personal comments about players that seem to border on grudges.

His next appearance on ESPN commentating on Diouf and Rangers will see greater focus than ever before on this controversial curmudgeon. Some may question whether, in light of his comments today, he deserves the chance to say anything

Agree1 Disagree4

Aye but Craig Burley sure knows what he's talking about when he says that Hooper should be going to a better club than Southampton

Agree4 Disagree6

We have been handed a gift here not getting hooper for a rediculous 7m. Lets all sing songs of joy as we have saved money for players who will improve the squad. Burley knows very little as he did very little for southampton having inheritted a reasonable squad and started our ascendency downward.... You all talk rubbish on this site it makes me laugh quite considerably. I trust you will all have fun over the next few weeks with the window closing fairly soon, but try not to get too uptight about the whole thing,

Lets just keep winning..

Agree3 Disagree1

Wrong Burley mate - George is his uncle. Talking rubbish is obviously infectious!
