Being reported that we've put in a starting bid of 10m for Austin.

Should have bought him years ago

we're definitely not interested in Austin, the club released information to the Echo stating as much.

sounds like this is QPR touting him around to get his price up as well as his agent trying to get him into a bidding war to up his wages.

Shame, think he would be useful

I don't understand why we would want to bring him in at all. I'm more of a reader than a poster on here but I have to intervene.

OK, he's probably in the top third of English strikers in the PL but we have King Rod coming back, Pelle will play well with him and Mane is hot property. Shane Long is proven PL quality and needs game time to reach his best. I'm not sure about Juanmi, an unknown for me - a gamble, but that's worked before. Unless we are looking to sell any of last seasons forwards, and with Sammy G and M in backup, I think we should spend the money elsewhere.

Just my two penneth.

Oh! And Mayuka when he's fit has great potential, again he just needs game time.

Lol mangochutney u really would have mayuka over austin plus jayrod might never rediscover his form after that injury ie Owen, gallagher prob won't make the grade, long will struggle for 10 goals

Pelle holds the ball up well, so does Austin. Pelle played pretty much every game last season. Gallagher looks good good, he can also hold the ball.
So 3 strikers can rotate that role in a busy season.
other attacking options new and old would all be adaptable to the wings and behind striker.
Can totally see why we would want Austin. It's a good sign that the club will aim to really have a go at the Europe league

Eds, any knowledge of interest in max gardel?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am trying to find out for you mate, I know West Ham are keen to do a deal for him, Everton were interested, but that was prior to the signing of Delofeu, so their interest might have died. Sunderland and Leicester were the other two I know that are definitely interested and there was an expectation Newcastle would probably be keen if his price was right. That is literally all I know though.}

I was of the opinion he would be a good signing after his performances last seasons. 17 goals and exciting to watch. Did you watch many ligue1 games dsj20v? Don't forget it is depth we need, not individual quality.

No I didn't watch much ligue1 but yes he had 1 decent season but pretty poor apart from that, we may need depth but we also need quality and a proven scorer, despite les black box we really haven't got a decent track record for buying in transfers bar 3 or 4

I see gradel as an elia alternative. I don't think elia will be signing permanently purely on the basis it would have been done by now. I do agree we need an out and out goalscorer. I have been crying out for one for 2 seasons now, I think that was the difference between 7th and 4th for us last season. if there is interest in gradel I don't think that is the intention of signing him. 30 goals in 100 app isn't too shabby though.
