southampton are thinking of offloading lambert to reading for 5 million in order to fund two signings up front thought to be osvaldo and leigh griffiths of wolves, the griffiths deal includes billy sharp

st stuie

Believable2 Unbelievable27

Right, to fund the deals. Makes sense. We could afford a 20 million bid for Damiao, but we need Lamberts 5 million!

Also wouldn't mind Griffiths signing, good young British talent. But not as the cost of Rickie.

Agree11 Disagree9

Above obviously knows nothing!

Lambert going no where and will finish his career at Saints

As for freeing up money, please.

Agree13 Disagree4

Er Griffiths? that's one out of left field

Agree9 Disagree4

Absolute nonsense not only has rickie proved that he is good enough for southampton he has proved he is good enough for the premier league so why take such a small fee that's Saints point of view. Rickies point of view he has said again and again it is his dream to represent england he will not fulfill that dream anywhere but at southampton stepping down to reading ends that dream he also says he loves playing in the premier league again ends if he joins reading so this nonsense rumour makes no sense at all. Saints need rickie and rickie needs saints.

Agree11 Disagree2

Rickie is a proven goal scorer and a vital part of our attacking build-up play. He's worth far more to us than anyone is likely to offer. Unless we make 2 exceptional striker signings, Rickie is irreplaceable. Even if he was working from the bench more often, still a hell of a player for £5m. The likes of Damiao etc may be touted but are not proven in the Prem and could flop. Rickie is a saints legend and I really hope he hangs up his boots when the time is right, wearing our beloved no. 7.

Agree12 Disagree0

I totally agree with the above poster. I cannot see the point of offloading him, regardless of who we sign. Apart from the fact he is a proven intelligent striker, if. And I do stress IF we sign a new striker from abroad. They are going to have to bed in. Why get rid of someone who is going to get us goals for someone who may do well? There is no reason to do this. at all
If we got people who score us stupid amounts then possibly January.
I agree that Ricky loves it here and doesn't want go but it might not be up to him in the end

Agree7 Disagree0

What is all this nonsense about Saints selling Licky Rambert?

It's very simple to solve with a little logic (something apparently in short supply)applied to the thread.

1) Do Saints have a replacement already signed and settled? No.

2) Do Saints need to sell Licky to fund purchases of other players? No

3) Are Saints looking to but another striker to strengthen their attack? Yes

4) Was Licky struggling last year in the premier league? Being the top scoring English striker in the league would suggest not

5) Has Licky fallen out with the management and demanded a transfer like some over-hyped, prima-dona? No

Seriously, why don't people put a little thought into their insane ramblings.

The only way Saints would sell Lambert is if he a) wanted to go, or b) we were offered so much money as to make the sale of our talisman sensible.

Agree11 Disagree2

Omfg these rumours are getting sooo stupid! St Stuie what the hell are you smoking man!? Free up funds for a wolves player and a italian who don't even want to join us? haha that's the greatest rumour of them all get it in the hall of shame now Ed!

Agree9 Disagree1

I would not want ricky to go but then I am not Nichola or Poch. sentiment like finishing his career with us will not come into it.

Welcome to the new SFC, are you in or are out?

Agree2 Disagree2

Hi lady's, it's st stuie again, I like you lot hope this isn't true as Lambo is a legend, I'm mearly telling you what I was told and as I'm well aware we have a chairman with no sentiment for loyalty I thought it a good one to share, lambert was brought for 1 million courtese has just been offered 4 times as much money for an ageing yet quality striker by the man who originally brought him to southampton in order to bring in two young international strikers, now if I was a business man like say ummm courtese that would be a result in any area of the proposed deals

St stuie

Agree1 Disagree11

Pardew bought lambert not Adkins. Not happening.

Agree5 Disagree1

Last time I saw lambert with poch was him signing a contract extension.
You don't offer somebody a new deal if they are not in your plans. But as for finishing off their careers, more likely at Bournemouth unless he retires at 33

Agree2 Disagree2

Pardew brought rl in, not adkins. Also & I have no basis for this other than circulating rumours at the time but rl was mentioned as one of the players complaining to nc about the match tactics being drployed & the growing unrest in the team.

Agree5 Disagree0

But we don't need to sell to buy so this story is silly and clearly made up. Lambert will hopefully finish his career at saints

Agree5 Disagree0

Selling Rickie would be an awesome way to put too much pressure on an incoming player? Unthinkable

Just reading papers today that nigel adkins wants rickie lambert?
Will this happen?

Believable2 Unbelievable17

It wouldn't make sense this season to get rid of the top English striker in the premiership. He still has a lot to offer us and will def stay.

Agree14 Disagree0

Even if we sign another striker it is important we have more than one choice. With squad rotation and going for cups I think a deep squad is even more important.

Agree7 Disagree0

No it won't. I want cheryl coal that won't happen eather.

Agree6 Disagree2

Of course not. Lambert is one of our best players and won't sacrifice his Premiership place to join Reading. Also we have no reason really to sell our top goal scorer with no replacement lined up who knows the squad well.

Agree6 Disagree2

Top English striker in the Premier league! Really? What about Sturridge, Rooney, Walcott among more!

Agree3 Disagree12

He was the top English striker in the Prem last season I believe. hence "top english striker". So yes he was a better goal scorer than the likes of Rooney last season. Proven fact. end of!

Agree8 Disagree2

^ clearly he meant top goal scoring English striker, which Lambert was.

Agree6 Disagree0

:L the comment above made me laugh Rooney, Sturridge and Walcott didn't beat lambert this year he had fifteen Goals Joint top English premiership Goal Scorer with Lampard, Rooney didn't score many 8 or something (correct me if I am wrong) Sturridge didn't score more than him either and Walcott scored 13-14 last season? but yeah lambert and Lampard where the top English goal scorers last season! you have no argument against him not being up their :L doesn't mean he will be as good this season but for some reason lambert never really shows up at pre season games. but when he is on the pitch for a premiership game I wouldn't swap him for Rooney, Sturridge or Walcott! Just my opinion though

Agree6 Disagree1

May not be the best English striker but scored the most goals of an English player only drawing with lampard who is a midfielder, and scoring is what strikers do! Plus he plays for Southampton who do create less chances than teams like man u or Chelsea!

Agree1 Disagree0

You wouldn't swap him for rooney?! I will go out on a limb and say that you may be slightly biased there ;)

Agree3 Disagree7

Just beats me why people keep on
about world class rooney
he is not world class and never will be
just a money grabber

Agree10 Disagree4

Personally I'd be stunned if RL didn't see out the end of his career with Saints & then stay on in a coaching capacity. He has proved to be a loyal servant for the club which I fully expect the club to repay. Yes, we would make a massive profit if we sold him at his peak but the fans backlash would probably be worse than the Nigel Adkins shocker. Also, even as age creeps up on Rickie, we could still wheel him on for cup games & he would still deliver the goods. BTW, I still think he will deliver the goods for us in the premiership in the coming seasons! Not only do we have a process for developing young talent through the academy but we also are starting to use the experience of outgoing players to help them ala Kelvin Davies & Jaidhi

Agree5 Disagree0

Just a thought about Rickie. Most strikers are getting past it by 30 or so but, that is normally because they had pace and get slower as they get older. Rickie bless him has never been blessed with speed so I think age is irrelevant in his case. What he has got is great technical ability for a big fella and an amazing reading of the game. He will be fine for us for another season or more and still be at the top of his game. Worth bringing him on later in the game as he gets older, he would still be a great impact player. He is 3 times the player he was four years ago when he came from Bristol Rovers. Club man through and through and a credit to the game.

Agree9 Disagree0

How dillusional does an individual have to be to consider wellbeck a "top english striker"? what an unbeliveable comment, I would genuinly like to know if there has EVER been a player that plays for a top club in any division and have an entire seasons league goal return of. 1. yes 1??

st stuie

Agree5 Disagree3

No one said Welbeck, mate. except for that media puppet England manager.

The players mentioned are different and hard to compare. But stats prove Rickie is more dangerous with goals and assists at a club not equipped with numerous so-called world class team mates.

Agree3 Disagree1

I don't see why we should need a new striker, Mayuka could improve if he gets more playing time and rodriguez is still young, lambert was the top english goal scorer he's still got atleast one season left
