Southampton want to sign lyon defender Michel Bastos, who has fallen out with the manager after only playing 19 games during the season. he can also play as a winger, maybe costly at about £12 million, but hes only 28 and can be a huge part for years to come

Believable15 Unbelievable13

12m for a 28 year old!!

You have to be joking.

Agree9 Disagree14

Very good player, can play anywhere on the left side of the pitch but seems to be out of our reach. He will probably go to a team that play CL or Europa {Ed001's Note - he has a few issues, shall we say, that have led to him being available, it has also led most clubs to steer clear. Not so sure he would be out of reach, though I doubt Southampton have interest in him.}

Agree2 Disagree1

How can you say 12mill for a 28 year old ? hernan crespo went to chelsea for alot more than that at the age of 28. alot of players transfer for that kind of money as that is usually the age they peak at

Agree6 Disagree1

Southampton aren't interested. Bastos will be leaving but Southampton are not interested. Wish we were interested but it won't happen - he's a world class player! Would love to see him in red and white stripes!

Agree5 Disagree1

Stupid comment about Crespo-how much a week was he paid?

If Saints were to pay 12m for a player WHO MET THEIR PAY LIMITS it would not be for a 28 year old. Yes, I can see them paying that sort of money for a real good, young prospect who sees a more modest wage as a means to an end, but that would not be the situation for a 28 year old, who is much more likely to be looking for 60k+/week and Cortese will not pay that-yet.

Agree3 Disagree3

How do you know cortese wont pay that ? has he come out and said "we wont pay anymore than this amount for wages" ? no he hasnt, so no one knows anything about how much he is willing to pay out

Agree3 Disagree1

Cortese had a massive spread in the Sun approximately 18 months ago, stating that he would consider "breaking the bank" if we were in the position to do so, i.e. Champions League etc, but up until that point, he would like the keep the structure and team spirit in place. That was when. Just for the record.

Agree5 Disagree2

"How do you know cortese wont pay that ? has he come out and said "we wont pay anymore than this amount for wages" ? no he hasnt, so no one knows anything about how much he is willing to pay out"

Have a word with yourself can ya. No way will Cortese pay 60k a week in our first season back in the prem. Thats called financial suicide. Have you not learned anything in the last 7years. Cortese is a little bit smarter than that. Use your common sense!!

Agree6 Disagree0

Utter rubbish!

Agree1 Disagree1

Exactly my point. Cortese has a clear, scheduled plan. Yes, he is aiming for European football, but he sees the next couple of seasons about stabilising the club in the Premiership and cementing the Southampton Way through the club. Don't see that 28 year olds costing 12m, with a problem background, and (possibly) smashing the current wage ceiling (who knows exactly what that is, but it would appear to be a maximum of 30k/week) would be part of his plan for 2012/2013.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 months ago we were in leauge 1. dont think we could have signed the likes of decent internationals then. things and times have changed.. just coz he said something 18 months ago, doesnt mean it still stands now

Agree2 Disagree1

When swansea were near the bottom of leauge 2 about 6/7 years ago, there chairman said the same.. dont think they have a wage structure of 1k per week now. lol.
things change as teams go up. we were leauge 1 a year and a half ago, battleing with the likes of yeovil and exeter and wycombe in the leauge. were now playing the likes man city, utd and chelsea. he has to spend the money to keep us in the leauge. and he or anyone else would do the same

Agree3 Disagree0

I really think it is a shame that some Saints supporters seem to have little idea of what Cortese is trying to achieve.

He wants the club to become successful with a totally different business model to the UK norm of managing Premiership clubs, hence the Southampton Way. For the guy who thinks we should now be competing with the Man. U's with our wages policy I would suggest there is a club (still?) a little way along the M27 where your thoughts may receive more sympathy!

Agree9 Disagree0

Don't think we need another left sided player. Maybe if Harding and Dickson left, but I can only see one going. Not to mention Luke Shaw who will break through soon!

Southampton are keen to sign former player andreas svenson, svenson has also said he is wanting a move back to southampton to finish his carrer, also saints looking to make a cut price deal for rangers captin steven davis.,
sorse - various papers

Believable11 Unbelievable16

Paper talk , davis yes , anders no , his to old

Agree13 Disagree2

No thanks

Agree7 Disagree5

The Steven Davis rumour seems to have some traction (Sun, Star, Mirror, Record). Would be an excellent signing IMO. Not so sure about Svensson (especially if Davis comes). Although AS has the quality and experience, does he have the legs at 35?

Agree6 Disagree0

Anders Svensson jokingly said he wants to return to Saints now they are in the prem. But the Sun took him seriously and say a deal is about to happen..

This wont actually happen

Agree11 Disagree2

Have from a reliable source!!! Bernetta from Bayer Leverkuasen and Matt Jarvis. Both would be excellent.

Agree5 Disagree4

It appears Anders Svenson might be interested in coming back to saints, but I will be surprised if that interest is reciprocated. He is 35 and to my mind doesnt seem to fit the mould of the sort of player Nigel Atkins is trying to bring in.

Agree5 Disagree0

Andewrs may be keen, but I suspect Saints are not! Lazy reporter syndrome again.

Agree5 Disagree1

Er I think you mean Anders not Andreas! He was absolute s**te when he was with us the first time so no, def would not like to see him back.

Agree2 Disagree10

Anders svenson made one of the best defencive pair we have ever had. Him and another cb that I can't remember had the best partnership in the prem, statistics and le tiss and redknap both said so at the time {Ed003's Note - If 'Arry said it,it must be right}

Agree2 Disagree7

Can't believe some people are taking this remotely seriously. There is more chance of Terry Paine coming out of retirement to solve our RM problem.

Agree2 Disagree1

Anders Svensson is an attacking midfielder - Michael Svensson was our 'killer' CB

Agree7 Disagree1

Michael 'killer' svensson played CB with lundekvam...your obviously not a saints fan because you would have known that

Agree8 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more with the Terry Paine comment. Anders had a handful of good games for us and spent the others hiding. And he has NEVER played CB in his life?!? That was Michael Svensson, who retired with an injury, you muppet

Agree5 Disagree0

I remember that centre back partnership, wasn't it Santa Claus who was the other half of that one. Santa Claus and Anders Svenson, that would be about right!

Agree3 Disagree1

Santa Claus and Anders Svenson? Your taking the Michael (Svensson).

Agree4 Disagree2

Just because I got anders svenson and Michael svenson mixed up does make me not a saints fan. I'm only 15 so when he was playing I would've been 4, the fact I remember a svenson at all is remarkable as its 75%"of my of my life ago.

Agree2 Disagree1

I'm 16 and I remember both of them, Anders was here until seven years ago meaning you would have been 8 not four and Michael only officially left us three years ago...

Agree5 Disagree0

So, you get my point I can't really remember what I had for breakfast let alone something that happened 7 years ago

Agree0 Disagree2

Either that or your maths is worse than your memory...

Heard from a reliable source that Saints will take Inter Milan's Kenyan defensive midfielder McDonald Mariga on loan initially until January. He looks a big strong player who would fit into Saints midfield well.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Why would Saints want another defensive midfielder? Attacking central midfielder-yes, right midfielder-yes.

Agree5 Disagree3

He struggled to get a work permit to join Man City a few years back

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jun 2012 07:38:51
So yeah, The Sun claiming we're after Steve Davis from Rangers in a £2million deal... Considering the club was bought for £6million they'd probably accept that! And they're also saying Anders Svenson wants to return... I'd take him as a role player/leader. Goes against NC's policy of no ex-players but hey ho!

Believable5 Unbelievable3

3 spl clubs have already said NO about rangers joining the scottish premier leauge. i think rangers need an 8-4 vote in there favour to stay in spl. if not they have to apply for scottish 3rd. might get davis cheap, and maybe a couple of other cheaps from rangers lol

Saints intrest now looks at Fraser Forster from Newcastle. Meanwhile Gutherie discussing terms. Barnard maybe a sweetner and also Butterfield with Crystal Palace for Clyne or Zaha or even both.........

Believable4 Unbelievable7

None of your post is true

Transfer news: There have been no concrete offers so far for Crystal Palace full back Nathaniel Clyne

Crystal Palace star Nathaniel Clyne’s future is still unclear according to chairman Steve Parish, despite speculation linking him to Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle.

The 21-year-old’s contract comes to an end this summer and he looks set to make a move to a Premier League club with a compensation package to be agreed.

Parish confirmed that there had been interest in the right back but there had been no offers.

“I think it will still be a while before that works itself through,” Parish said.

“We will have to watch this space [to see what happens].”

Agree3 Disagree0

"There have been no concrete offers for Clyne".

Well, there wouldn't be, would there. He is a free agent as he has turned down a new contract with CP.

So, either two clubs talk and come to a reasonable agreement, or more likely, a fee is settled by a tribunial.

Concrete offers hardly likely to come into it, so that is just a smokescreen.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way is Clyne joining southampton When Man U, Newcastle & Man City are interested
