Southamptons bids for Victor Wanyama and Radja Naingolan appear to be smokescreens for Younes Belhanda who wants a move to England

Believable2 Unbelievable9

Don't you mean Benega

Agree1 Disagree9

No he means belhanda that's why he said belhanda

Agree10 Disagree1

I think he meant who he said. This guy is also a good midfield option like Banega.

Agree1 Disagree1

Banega has hardly been smoke screened has it? ^
Belhanda would be great.

Agree2 Disagree2

Completely different positions though

Agree2 Disagree1

He's abit moody I heard.

Southamptons new kit release date has been pushed back due to concerns from club officials about the colour of the strip. Some officials think that not bringing back the proper stripes will seriously damage shirt sales and profit margins while others want to change the kit to pure red permanently. The issue is likely to drag on for a while so the new kit may actually come out after some of our pre-season games have been played in last seasons kits.

Believable2 Unbelievable9

I read somewhere that the kit will be released just before the last pre season friendly.

Agree1 Disagree3

I asked in saints shop in west quay when new shirts were being launched. They replied "first week in July". Ie with tens of thousands of shirts already made and waiting to be dispatched across the world, unlikely to still be at a stage where they haven't even agreed on the basic design.

Agree10 Disagree0

Utter tosh, it is never going to happen. A club with a contract with adidas is not going to be wearing a kit from umbro. Like they will change it because the saintsweb don't like all red.

Agree6 Disagree0

Impossible to play in an umbro kit when are contractually obliged to play in Adidas kit.

Agree5 Disagree0

Absolute nonsense.

These things are planned months in advance, not last minute.

No chance of wearing old Umbro kits when we are sponsored by Adidas!

Also your use of financial jargon is bizarre. "seriously damage shirt sales and profit margins". no need to spout that rubbish just to try and make your post seem high and mighty.

Agree6 Disagree0

Plans can be changed very late sometimes and it appears as though the Leibherr's or someone trying to act on their behalf is concerned about the effects of changing the kit away from the traditional red and white on sales of merchandise and match tickets. They are pointing out the potential damage to the business side of Southampton doing something like this might have.

Yes it is rare for something like this to happen due to the costs of all the shirts already made up and due to the fact they want to plan in advance but the intervention is very real this time. It may be a case of this kit slips through and a ruling is put in place that we have to return to stripes for the following season but this is something which could push back the release date of this kit until the problems are sorted. {Ed003's Note - speaking to someone from Adidas before and it's true you are going back to stripes,white and orange apparently, strange I'd have gone for tangerine.}

Agree1 Disagree3

So we currently have no agreed upon design, no official shirt sponsor (previous Lotus rumour) and we will have to release a a shirt before pre season friendlies.
We will have our shirt before pre season, this is a non-rumour

Agree2 Disagree1

Definitely not going back to stripes ed. Kit will be the same design as Ajax, just reversed colours {Ed001's Note - I think ed003 was joking, the orange and tangerine bit should have given it away!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Like the last Kit, it will be released at the 11th Hour.

Basically it means that people rush out and buy it in time for the begining of the season regardless of how they feel about it.

Last seasons effort was a shocker in my opinion. Everyone I spoke to though so too. However they soon defended it when they where wearing it.

I have heard that it will be a sort of red gingham to emphasise our links to the textile industry

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be playing with the same template as Ajax. Its predominately red with some white on the sleeves. Same template as Bristol City's hew home kit. The badge will be gold as well.

Lenny

Agree1 Disagree0

Gingham to emphasise our links to the Textile industry?! Maybe we should wear blue to emphasise our links to the sea. it's all done and dusted, it's on the way to the stores, the publicity shots have been done - the best way to maximise impact is to keep us guessing

Agree3 Disagree0

There is a problem with the kit and it the sponsor not the choice of colour. The home kit is red with white panels, think Ajax or arsenal.
The problem is app3 have chosen to not match the clubs valuation. Bet335 have come in with the best offer but it's not the right choice for a family club. We had a third sponsor but if feel through not sure why?
M13

Agree1 Disagree1

Aap3 are in year 3 of a 3 year sponsorship deal. Although it was in the original sponsorship agreement they didn't really budget for promotion and the fee has gone up - and they can't really afford it. Saints also wanted a bigger sponsor paying more money and aap3 wanted out so Saints were looking for a new sponsor. But so far they have failed to find one. I think they came close but it fell through - rumours it was Lotus! Most of the new sponsorship team have now left the club.

Wanyama deal rejected by player over personal terms, reports Scottish Sunday mail, gh

Believable10 Unbelievable8

Let him go then. No room for mercenaries on the red and white bus.

Agree10 Disagree3

^agreed with above. No room for any player who isn't interested in joining the "project". Also worth noting that all news coming out at the moment is all speculation & knowing saints it will be a smokescreen for another high profile deal which no doubt will be a player who is clearly " too good" to join us

Agree9 Disagree1

I really wasn't keen to have him, thought our defensive midfield was strong last year and would much rather see others areas strengthened. We just need to wait and it will all become clear.

Agree3 Disagree2

So to summarise the last 2 days as succinctly as possible. Celtic have accepted a bid for between 9. 5 and 12.5 million for a lad who is on holiday in Kenya until the 10th of July. Victor only knows this through media reports but he in the region the following day to discuss and apparntly reject terms after one afternoons discussion! One bhoy says he was on 4k a week and another bhoy says he rejected terms because we can't improve that!!? He is desperate to play champions league but hopes that Cardiff make a bid!
Pick the bones out of that

Agree8 Disagree1

In a nutshell. a lot of people are making an awful lot of assumptions and spreading idle chat based on very, very little actual information.

Agree3 Disagree1

Nice post Templar St! The case for the defence rests m'lud. (You can be my brief any day).

One thing that made me laugh was his quote that he was 'far from being a saint'. Seems strange to me somehow he would use the word 'saint' and not just say 'Southampton player'.

One thing Jannersaint for sure. We are being linked with big players of similar age and I am very excited by that.

Jannersaint

Agree3 Disagree0

Don't you just love the transfer rumours! Templar you summed it up perfectly. I love coming on this site and seeing all the 100% definite signed people who then disappear.

Agree2 Disagree0

He wants to move to a bigger club! Hardly a mercenary. In fact he probably would joined you if he was a mercenary. 'It's the classic offer that you cannot refuse!' lol!

Agree0 Disagree4

It is mercenary to put money ahead of ambition. He was wanted by Man U and Liverpool not too king ago. We are now talking Cardiff. I'd say Southampton are somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. How is that not mercenary?!

Jannersaint {Ed052's Note - Liverpool have never had interest in him. Arsenal did, however}

Wanayama has supposedly rejected saints as the wages weren't high enough and he prefers a move to Cardiff not sure how true this is could someone shed any light on this

Believable1 Unbelievable9

Amazing how people would know this given that if a meeting took place then obviously would have been private & personal deals are hardly rejected or accepted within one meeting. Also, to those that thinks he's going to cardiff or stoke then its probably wise to let your club know to at least put an acceptable bid in first!

Agree3 Disagree0

I really think there is more than meets the eye on this. If it all broke down and he was planning on going off to speak to a big, big club fair enough but a newly promoted one?! Interesting, a lot of blind speculating about, wouldn't surprise me if saints still ended up with him.

Agree3 Disagree1

Ye because Cardiff can afford his wages if we cant

Agree2 Disagree0

If we got wanyama, 4-3-3?

Boruc

Ckyne lovren yoshida shaw

Schneiderlin cork wanyama

Ramirez lambert/jay lallana

Agree2 Disagree3

Interesting idea? Not enough goals in there though, unless Gaston suddenly hits top form and Lallana steered clear of injury. Then it may work! COYS

Agree3 Disagree0

^ we'd play the same as last season, just rotating wanyama/nainggolan cork and spider

Agree1 Disagree0

I thought wanyama was only interested in CL football? Is he getting confused by the championship if he's joining Cardiff? I like the fact we are being a little respectful of money, I'd rather earn success (which we will) than buy it!

It really seems to me that there's a lot of folks out there that aren't to happy about saints upsetting there apple cart!that includes lamestream media! Sorry mainstream media! Long gone are the days were we have to sell are top talent! Ie Luke shaw! Spider!. but the media refuse to except this as fact and keep putting out story's that we are going to sell are players! Even when they have stated publicly that there staying! And now Southampton have the nerve to go after top transfer targets. I mean how dare we!
The quicker they realise that times change and clubs rise and fall well this is one club that is well and truly on the rise!!
The futures bright the futures red and white or just red!
Thoughts!

Believable17 Unbelievable5

I have noticed this. Makes you realise how weak some transfer stories in the press can be though! Lazy journalists who have not much to write about based in London contribute.

Agree6 Disagree1

Agree completely. I quite see why Cortese doesn't get on with the newspapers.
When we were at home to Chelsea last season there were a huge number of newspaper reporters at St. Marys and most of them wrote 80% about the London club. This was after Saints had produced super performances against City and Liverpool and one or two reporters actually started to note the potential within Saints, then it came to Chelsea and all their focus was on them (you would struggle to know that Saints actually won that game!)

Fergie retires and they comment for a few days but a London Premiership club gets a new manager (which is a pretty old story) and we see weeks and weeks of analysis about it.

And what do they pay into football compared to the TV, yet expect to sell their product often based upon
the sport?

Saint Martin

Agree5 Disagree0

I'm old enough to remember the days when the press tried hard to sell Terry Paine - mainly to Arsenal. They've done the same over the years time and again. It's about time they realised now that Saints are a big club that doesn't have to sell their best players. Pity we had to a few years ago - just think of the team at present plus Theo, Ox, Gareth B! What a line up!

Agree7 Disagree0

It doesn't matter how big we are.

I am sure that jouranlists are either in the pay of London Clubs or at least well groomed.

Its not just about them trying to sell Shaw to Chelsea. Its about determining the stature of our club by running stories about our targets wanting to more to "bigger clubs".

This week we will mainly be having stories like "Ambitious Saints set to recieve tripple snub"

The "snubs" that we are "set" to recieve are the same as the "swoops" that we where "plotting" last week

Agree2 Disagree0

It makes me laugh becaus as far as I can see it the only thing that's been said (apparently) out of wanyama banega naingollan and osvaldo that's been directly quoted is "yes celtic have had a from southampton " wanyama isn't even a player that can benefit southampton we have 3 defensive midfeilders already I hope our other tarets whoever they are (because the press will be the last to know) are a bit better than victor

Wanyama in southampton today. A friend has spotted him in new forest hotel. Also backed up by an inside club contact that says he is close to agreeing terms.

Believable5 Unbelievable13

Hopefully the Rhinefield House hotel, the drive there should be enough to seal the deal (if you're coming from the motorway).

Agree2 Disagree3

Normally use the lime house hotel, but everyone is saying its fallen thru, without putting a source up. please post this as you don't post anything of mine on here.

Agree4 Disagree1

Wanyama is on holiday, not due back till 10th July, also he has stated he does not want to come to Southampton as he wants Champions League football keep taking the drugs, yo all thought Hooper was in the bag in January, but could not afford the fee.

Agree2 Disagree5

Southampton offered Wanyama the same wages he is on at Celtic, he said no to Southampton as it stands and is now talking to Cardiff City. pay the money and stop being cheap.

Agree0 Disagree2

Pay the money! lol. Just because we have rich owners the players and agents think they can demand whatever they want. I hope Cortese told them both where to stick it!

Agree6 Disagree0

There is no way someones value ould increase but not their wages. This rumour is rubbish & saints & nc will pay the right money to the right player which will be agreeable to all. Most people either don't know or easily forget that our chairman is a top banker & therefore is not a mug when it comes to money or deals.

Agree4 Disagree0

You lot in Scotland believe everything you hear, don't you? Strange that one post says he has to have CL football and the other says he wants to sign for Cardiff (who have agreed nothing with Celtic. ) Some confusion between Champions League and Championship is there?

So, Saints wouldn't "pay the money" yet one of their other targets for the same position is reporting he was offered a VERY attractive deal from Saints. Could be that Saints don't rate Wanyama that much-or could be you are being fed rubbish.

By the way, how much will Hooper sell for now-about £5m to Reading? Really good bit of business your club did with him LOL.

Agree5 Disagree1

Sorry but I can't see Hooper being the answer, his style of play being an old fashioned centre forward. The way Poch wants us to play quick high up the pitch football will not suit him. Player with good pace and a brain and finishing skills for me. I think we must look at Spain or Italy for a value for money player, all our home bred players are vastly over priced. Still believe Jay will be twice the player this season as long as we have Gaston playing to his full potential. A decent very pacy winger would be my choice, to me still the best way to create chances i. e dead ball line, cross, Rickie (or similar). GOAL! or at least making the keeper make a save. Most defenders hate defending a ball that comes across and behind them. I know that Luke can do it but it leaves us exposed if the move breaks down. A quality left sided pacy central defender would help that situation massively. So in a nutshell spend 30 - 40 million on three top class players a Winger who can play on both sides, Central Defender who is quick on the ground and a centre forward who is good in the air and reads the game well. Simples!

Agree1 Disagree0

Personally I think the whole old fashioned centre forward thing is a load of rubbish, why exactly is it a bad anyway because if you look at most clubs they have a big old fasioned centre forward, lambo benteke lukaku
crouch ba sturridge and even carroll had a pretty good season last year (with the exeption of carroll) they play the same sort of game and all score golas in the prem

st stuie

Agree0 Disagree0

Point taken but all I meant was that Hooper is more suited to the long ball hoof up field and relying on mistakes being made by rather poor quality defenders in the SPL. Players like Sturridge and Lukaku are blessed with good pace and good control on the ground. Hooper to me would always be 2nd best and would not suit our style.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku? Controll? His second touch is a tackle! He is however so powerfull and quick he rarely needs a second touch wich is quite exceptional especially In the prem
