Up here in Scotland there are strong rumours that Gary Hooper has told Neil Lennon he wants out to join Southampton. Apparently it has nothing to do with money, saying he needs a chance in the Premier League as he was very dissapointed not to get looked at for Englands Euro 2012 squad. £8m is the rumoured amount, and i don't think its a gamble Southampton should take. This is only what i have heard, so please don't bite my head off if it turns out to be complete rubbish.

Believable17 Unbelievable10

Total rubbish hooper going norwich saints seriously dont need him got it on good authority we will being signing a foreign international striker and japanese midfeilder

Agree6 Disagree6

Anyone who says he has it on good authority who Saints will sign is unlikely to be correct!

Agree15 Disagree2

Reading championship winners, southampton not very good better luck getting promoted next year

Agree4 Disagree16

Promoted to where exactly?

Agree9 Disagree1

You get promoted when 2nd and do u remember what happened with Norwich and qpr hmmm

Agree5 Disagree4

"Reading championship winners, southampton not very good better luck getting promoted next year"

Speechless.......

Agree10 Disagree3

Southampton will finish higher than reading.. lets look at your granddad squad, harte, roberts, gunnarsson, . you need some more young players under 35 lol

Agree10 Disagree2

So if were so bad how did we finish 1st lol

Agree1 Disagree6

The bloke who wished us luck getting promoted. Just get out, now. Of all football related things. Clearly clueless. As to the for the "good authority" thing, that was said by a Agricultural fan, sorry I mean Norwich.

Norwich won't sign hooper, he doesn't class as foreign and with Holt likely to stay, they play the same position and would be competing for the same place. So don't be a fool. Good luck with the jap midfielder tho, brings a good fan base with it!

As for Saints, as a fan I would prefer NOT to see Hooper with us. They brought him for £2mill, then sell him for £8mill then try replace with Cox for £2mill again, clearly getting done on prices here for an SPL player

Agree1 Disagree2

Hooper is going no-where, he wants to stay & NL wants him to stay, just a little matter of a pay rise which will be resolved in a couple of weeks, after all, how much would it cost for a player to equal his 51 goals ii 2 seasons. The OP is obviously a rangers (soon to be newco) fan with sour grapes as the aren't allowed to sign anyone bcoz of their cheating.

- Saints were huge odds at the beginning of the season

- First season back in the Championship

- Outplayed the opposition in nearly every game, even when we lost. e.g. Brighton away, Leicester away, Bristol, Reading home.

- robbed of title in the end due to Reading's persistent luck and Saints' bad luck. Nearly every shot going in for Reading and going against Saints.

- Saints will continue to build. We have the 2nd best academy in the world behind Barcelona. Advanced training facilities. Great ambitious board and manager. Plenty of money. Strong fan base.

- Now compare us to Wigan, QPR, Norwich, Swansea, West Ham etc etc.... we'll be just fine thanks.

Agree17 Disagree0

For the benefit of our Celtic pal above, you well know that Hooper is wanting to leave because he now recognises (after Euro squads were announced) he stands no chance of English International honours whilst banging in goals against amateur defenders. It's not all about money, you can break the bank with a new offer and it will still make no difference.

Agree2 Disagree3

If jason roberts is agrandad what was the player marking him jose fonte when he scored

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its funny that Gary Hooper thought he would get into the england set playing in the spl

According to some people from saintsweb, saints are after Giovanni Dos Santos from spurs. Surplus to requirements there, and could be signed for a very knock down price....

Gary hooper will go to everton for 7m.He will not sign for Southampton as he doesn't want to play in the championship next season and he is too good for Southampton FACT!!
Conor

Believable9 Unbelievable39

Saints > Everton. FACT! ;-)

Agree24 Disagree7

Next season, Southampton will be in the Prem. They've got wealthy backing...

Agree28 Disagree4

Why would hooper go to everton when they have to many attackers

Agree22 Disagree6

Tell a non-football fan wrote this post. southampton are in the same leauge as everton.. plus hooper is in contract talks with celtic, read the news

Agree16 Disagree2

As far as family monetary backing goes, we are the 7th richest club in the country. FACT!
So i think we'll be able to stay up.

Agree16 Disagree7

Southampton will be in the championship next season, they are not as good as Norwich & Swansea to stay up FACT!
Neil Lennon has being saying Celtic are in talks with gary hooper since January, hooper doesn't want a new contract he doesn't care about money he wants to play in the prem and the England squad,he will leave Celtic this summer but not for Southampton FACT!

Agree5 Disagree23

Calm down up north-you know you are at high risk of heart failure!
Hooper has said he wants to leave and he has had since January to make that decision, so hardly one on the spur of the moment.
I believe his reasons for leaving will still make this happen. Whether to Saints, we will see, but there is no point slagging off any club who is interested. If a club is able to acquire players through cash deals (if necessary) will have quite a choice to go for, and it may well be that Saints will move on and pick someone else-but Hooper will still leave!

Celtic are beginning to sound like Wolves insisting Jarvis will not go for under £10m-why pay this when Johnson is available for around the same?

Agree10 Disagree1

Who says Im Scottish?
I'm a saints fan who is realistic

Agree1 Disagree16

No saints fan believes we'll go down. We will be very confortable in mid table. When Martinez goes, Wigan will be as good as down. Norwich, Swansea, Villa, QPR, Reading, West Ham, West Brom... I don't think we'll struggle.

If the Celtic fans are so adamant what a class act Hooper is, surely that spells it out.

Agree7 Disagree2

It's about time the Celtic fans got realistic. No player that is good enough for the EPL wants to be in the SPL. Horrible weather. Deluded person fans. No chance of doing anything in the Champions League. Mickey mouse domestic league and cups. You all talk about trophies, there is no glory in Celtic winning anything domestic. Might as well play Sunday league. You want to talk facts, Southampton would piss the SPL with Lambert far outscoring Hooper.

Agree12 Disagree5

Southampton are only as good as QPR i feel you will struggle

Agree7 Disagree11

Southampton would piss the spl a don't think so, Celtic would trounce all over uz home and away don't kid ursel mate ur in the prem 5mins n u think ur world beaters. If uz wer in the spl u wouldnt be able to compete with Celtic for any players.
Who would u rather sign for Celtic or Southampton.......Who?
BigGaz67

Agree5 Disagree12

Celtic for me. are so much better

Agree5 Disagree12

How did Celtic do against Norwich last night??

And Saints were beating them for fun a short while ago. Didn't get promoted at same time as Norwich due to a 10 points deduction. Otherwise, Saints improvement is much greater than that of Norwich, who I understand from posts from Celtic supporters, gave you a bit of a lesson last night! And Hooper was less than interested-perhaps worried picking up an injury could hamper his transfer chances?
Sorry guys, if you don't even have Rangers to keep you on your toes your League 1 competition will drop down to non league standards.

Agree7 Disagree3

HAHA. Celtic wouldn't even finish top half of the Championship. Deluded Celtis fan! I'm not saying Southampton are a bigger club but they have a better team.

Agree8 Disagree6

Southampton any day wouldn't want to play in the mickey mouse league

Agree10 Disagree4

Celtic played there reserves last night so before u come on here postin a lot of rubbish get ur facts facts right. There was only about three first team players playin last night.Celtic r better player for player any football fan wae a brain would tell u that

Agree5 Disagree7

Definetly this guy aint a saints fan and couldnt give a flip about being better then celtic or hooper we will get who we get in adkins and cortese we trust

Agree8 Disagree1

Haha keep dreaming.

Agree1 Disagree5

Celtic fans need to realize what league they are in... The mickey mouse league! Get a grip. Deluded Celtic fans

Agree9 Disagree3

Celtic obviously aren't that good otherwise they would play in England like Swansea and Cardiff cause there to good for welsh teams

Agree10 Disagree1

Right I'm a spurs fan and I would chose Southampton over Celtic any day

Agree10 Disagree2

I was talking about if Southampton were in the same league as Celtic then who would u choose. Mostly every footballer would pick Celtic. If Celtic were in the prem they would be in the top 4 every year without a doubt same as rangers and uz know it. Celtic has the second biggest fan base in the world and rangers are up there too,we would be fighting for the title every year with the money uz get without doubt.Celtic and Rangers are two of the biggest clubs in the world and the only teams in England that can match that is Man U and Liverpool

Agree3 Disagree8

Celtic play in some micky mouse leauge, if saints were in the SPL then we could expect to be playing champions leauge football every season .. its too easy up there.. if rangers dont survive or end up with a transfer ban, then celtic will walk the leauge again by default.. to me the SPL in boring ... YAWN... is that what hooper wants ?? he wants to play in an exciting leauge and hope to get into england team, cant do that in a easy leauge .FACT the spl is like leauge 1

Agree4 Disagree1

And how are u going to get into the champions league and it's spelt LEAGUE with the money the spl will give u.If Celtic win the league they get about 3m how much do uz get for promotion 60m. If southampton were gettin the same money as Celtic then they would become a mid table team, and if Southampton were in the spl who would u rather sign for Southampton or a massive club like Celtic.
End of story! {Ed003's Note - if the dog and duck from lithuania had the same finances as the epl they would be ok,it is teams from different affiliations so I don't know why everyone is obsessed with it,it is like me comparing my shopping bill with someone from North Korea,it isn't the same and we are very unlikely to shop in the same supermarket very soon}

Agree4 Disagree4

Celtic played their reserves? Norwich played Darren huckerby!?

Agree4 Disagree3

Celtic played there reserves WHY is that so hard to believe?

Agree4 Disagree0

You lot are deluded. Celtic were the FIRST British team to win the EUROPEAN CUP...FACT, reaching a further more 2 European cup finals, TWICE...FACT, Celtic ARE a Global brand..FACT, Celtic in football terms are a GIANT...FACT. S'hampton have done NOTHING in Europe, oh & there was the administration not to long ago, but lets not get into that. Celtic are MASSIVE, you lot are little tiddlers. If we are so crap, then why are you after our players Hooper & McCourt, You'll not be getting either, you dont have the class to be going for silverware, all you will be doing in the new season is battling for survival, yeah, players will be throwing themselves at you .

JollyGreenGiant

Agree5 Disagree5

The SPL is league 1 standard. Celtic and Rangers are (or were) the exception with a top Championship level squad.

You say Celtic are so huge, yes they are big in Scotland. If you're Scottish, what's your choice.... dreadful football week in week out, or glory hunt one of the big 2 and trounce teams for false glory.

You compare Celtic to Man Utd etc, but you forget that there are dozens of huge clubs in England with huge support.

What has Celtic got over Southampton? We have you beat in every department except for a long history of winning trophies in a 2 team league and a false-glory hunting fan base. How do you think winning the silverware with Celtic compares to winning silverware with Southampton? It would be a real achievement with saints as there is huge competition, not just a bust club and a bunch of numpties.

With Rangers in big trouble, let's be honest, the SPL will be boring even for Celtic fans this coming season. Go caber tossing or curling.

Agree3 Disagree3

Permeirship FACT

Agree1 Disagree1

Everton can't afford him!

Agree1 Disagree1

That guy was talking about Celtic being massive not just in scotland but the whole world.Celtic have 1 million fans in America & 2 million in Asia 2 million fans in Ireland and thousands of fans in England,Africa and Europe. We know the spl is a mickey mouse and we will be the first to tell u that but Celtic & Rangers are two of the biggest clubs in the world FACT. Southampton don't even come close to us and the rest of the clubs in England e.g arsenal, spurs,Chelsea, man city don't come close
Conor67

Agree3 Disagree5

Prem FACT
Been in Europe FACT
Better than Celtic FACT
Apart from on tv

Agree6 Disagree3

Pretty sure we have been in the prem for about a month not 5 minutes

Agree2 Disagree2

Is it just me, or don't football fans north of the border recognise how the situation has changed in the last few years in terms of revenue?
The introduction of TV money simply means that the leagues that attract TV viewers get the money-this is the EPL not the SPL.
Before this was the case Celtic were able to compare themselves with the top clubs in England but it no longer adds up.
You may have a world wide fan club but much of this is based on history rather than current performance.
Sorry, but when NL talks about having a £5m budget, who is he going to get for that? Certainly not any of the quality players, such as Bale, who may be moving this coming season.
Will real football supporters prefer to pay to see Man. City v Man. Utd or Celtic v Aberdeen? Some years ago it might well be the latter but those times are long gone and the quality of players now on show has changed dramatically on both sides of the border. So the above arguement is pointless-just arguing fact against emotion.

Agree1 Disagree3

If celtic are so big why are they after simon cox who doesnt start for west brom

Agree2 Disagree2

If celtic are so same why does Fortuine and Maloney who were Celtic subs at best start for decent premier league teams, and infact u think that boy Hoodvield is class, he played about 3 games for Celtic, Izaguire, Kayal, Ki, Hooper, Samaras could all play for good premier league clubs, and I am a bloody Rangers fan, Davis, Naismith, McGregor, Goian, Bocangera, Lafferty, Whittaker, McCulloch Aluko could all play in the premier league too and unfortunally 3 or 4 of them will very soon {Ed001's Note - Maloney was not a Celtic sub, as you put it, he had injury problems, which stopped him being a consistent starter, there were never any doubts about his ability.}

Agree2 Disagree2

Maloney was not a starter for Celtic he couldn't even get on the bench sometimes when he was fit and wat about Danny fox he was rank rotten and he's a Southampton regular. Hummmmm?

Agree2 Disagree1

I think that says more about your manager than the players!

Agree0 Disagree1

Maloney was poor at best for celtic nothing to do with the managers young forrest kept him out the team

Agree2 Disagree0

Southampton wouldnt have been promoted with Norwich and Leeds even if you did have those 10 points. you would still have only finnished 5th. Sorry mate

Agree1 Disagree1

Kris Boyd was top goalscorer in SPL every year. Rejected my a number of championship clubs.

You cannot look at the end table and add 10 points! The gap between 2nd and 6th was about 2 points, then 5 points between 6th and 7th (us). With 2 games left we couldnt get into the play offs so fielded young lads in a game that was no longer competitive for us (Gillingham away). We lost, yet if wed had something to play for and beat the gills and southend (which we were good enough to do), we would finish second. You cannot go by the maths of adding 10 points when our season finished early.

And Celtic are boring now...we could do better than hooper for better money.

Agree0 Disagree2

We know the SPL is a s**te league and every Celtic fan will admit that, but is watching Hibs vs Hearts really any less entertaining than watching Brighton vs Bristol City. I don't think so.

It doesn't matter if Southampton are a premiership team they still are not as big as Celtic and never will be.

Celtic have a squad full of established Internationals from all over the world, 3 players in Southampton's squad have played for their countries

Fox Scotland 1 Cap
Forte Barbados 2 Caps
Lee Japan 10 Caps

People that say any player would walk it in Scotland is a joke, plenty have failed. Hooiveld and Fox for example.

Southampton average attendance in Championship 26,419

Celtic average attendance in SPL 52,416

And for the last time Hooper has NOT said he wants to leave Celtic. He wants to play Champions League football, something he will NEVER get with Southampton. Plus he will not want to join a team that will certainly be going straight back down.

"Simon Kjaer, the Danish centre back who has been on loan at Roma from his parent club Wolfsburg, is on the Southampton radar. Southampton manager Nigel Adkins sees the defender as a vital piece of the jigsaw as the Saints attempt to cement their place in the Premier League next season. The 23-year-old is not wanted by Wolfsburg, and is thought to be available for around £7 million."

Believable14 Unbelievable4

He's a quality defender and if that valuation is correct, he's well worth a punt. Watch him in the Euros, he's class. I really want this to be true - Fonte, Hooiveld and Kjaer as our centre back options would be fantastic.

Agree11 Disagree0

Being from Denmark, I have relatively good knowledge about Kjær. He is very strong in the air, and has formed a formidable partnership with Agger, and given his age, has the potential to surpass him. He is also by no means a premadonna. Very level-headed. I think this makes perfect sense. Shows the ambition of Saints and willingness to invest when criteria are met. I think they are here.

Agree12 Disagree0

Looking at his FIFA stats, he is not a bad player at all, good heading and defending both 80+, quick for a centre half as well and not bad passing!!!! Only joking, would be a good signing. Watch Seria A sometimes on ESPN and Roma are occasionally on, looks the part, young and pacy, just what saints need, hope there is substance in this rumour.

Agree7 Disagree1

^Haha FIFA stats! Give this guy a medal! LEGEND! ^

Agree9 Disagree0

Sounds like a good signing

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah fifa

FIFA lol

Agree1 Disagree0

When there's a player you don't know FIFA is the place to turn to ;)

Agree3 Disagree0

Pretty sure it's about a month not 5 minutes

Agree0 Disagree0

FM is the one. He will certainly have a lot to do at the Euros v Germany, Holland and Portugal.
