Apparently Saints interested in Kyle Naughton would be good?

Believable20 Unbelievable5

He would be a decent signing. Plays left and right back

Agree13 Disagree0

Would be a good signing I feel - L & R back so great squad competition/rotation.

Agree9 Disagree0

Reporter at the game said that it looks as if we aren't in for him just paper crap as usual. Chambers looks very capable would be happy for him to compete with clyne.

Saint IQ

Agree7 Disagree1

While a pretty decent signing where is the source? The one the Echo quotes is from the 16th July 2012, so I'm not sure if this is a rehash of an old story or they had a new link, but accidentally put the wrong one in.

Agree4 Disagree0

Chambers needs time at a Championship club on loan. The Prem is a hard league to learn in unless the player is exceptional.

Agree0 Disagree2

Shaw caught on pretty fast and I think Chambers is highly rated.

Agree3 Disagree0

Just what we need regarding cover for both FB positions, I hope this happens. It would also be a kick up the backside in terms of competition for places too.

Watched the game tonight and was impressed with both Wanyama and Lovren, players that didn't shine for me where Lallana, Mayuka, Jay Rod or Lambert though lambert never plays well pre season. He didn't last year. While watching it was clear who are strongest players will be next season while also pointing out the young talent we have coming through. I believe we most defiantly need a striker and another cam! but overall we played well against a better team we just need to finish chances, lambert missed a sitter

Believable9 Unbelievable4

As I've kept saying you don't score goals you don't win matches simple's!

Agree7 Disagree2

Totally agree with the top post. defense will get a lot better as they gel, and with yoshida back. but we need more bite up front.

Agree7 Disagree1

Although Lovren did look solid most of the game, it was his fault we conceded the second goal and as everyone knows, goals win games. However you can't judge the teams development on one friendly. Despite Schalke 04 being a quality team (reaching the Champions League semis in 2011) I don't think we were outshone and you could argue we were the best team in the first half.

Agree9 Disagree0

Read a few reviews of the game and all said we played better the first half and played well all game.

Agreed though and have been saying it for a while. We need a proven darn good striker who will get us double figure goals. Jay rod still needs some maturing, Rickie cannot be relied on for the whole season and if we get an injury or two it could cripple us.
I would be over the moon if we got a proven goal scorer and a proven attacking midfield player.

Agree6 Disagree0

Fonte was shocking when he came on and s. Davis done nothing.

Agree3 Disagree0

A lack of quality out wide as well. Lallana offers nothing. Puncheon got into some dangerous positions, but he never passes, just dallies on the ball endlessly until the chance is lost.

Agree2 Disagree2

Wouldn't read too much into friendlies, but I agree we need a goalscorer, poacher type striker (a Billy Sharp type player). Mayuka can't play the lone role up front IMO so might as well be used as an impact winger so a striker is definitely needed

Agree1 Disagree1

Wanyama looked far too slow, lallana was class as always as was puncheon, lambert was crap as was mayuka, lovren looked classy but i'm pretty sure it was him who miss judged the ball for huntelaar to score was it not? but above all everything buckled when boruc wasnt on the feild

st stuie

Agree0 Disagree8

No wonder we didn't score GULY was injured

Agree7 Disagree1

We created very ltittle and are too slow going forward.
A goalscorer is needed but if he doesn't get the ball he won't score many!

Agree1 Disagree0

Oh do we need a striker or two. Fingers crossed that we manage to bring in some quality up front before the season starts. Ricky will score his share I am sure but we need pace up front otherwise we are going to struggle in some games.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wanyama controlled the midfield nicely I thought

Agree6 Disagree0

Yeah wanyama was probably one of the best performers IMO st stuie?

Saint IQ

Agree5 Disagree0

Can ANYONE remember when RL looked any good in pre-season? He has always seen these matches about building to the season.

Agree2 Disagree0

We will ignore the fact that lallana set up lambert, and did a nice little bicycle kick that was handballed to prevent it going in. Also, you attack Lovren, still looking to find his feet, but if he had not made an excellent block before the corner it would have been a goal anyway. All in all, that was foxes fault, couldn't stop his man down the left, they get a corner from it, other team score. story of the season shocker.

Wanayma looked excellent, MS was good but some hit or miss passes. Lambert was appaling, and jRod beat his men in midfield but no finish.

Though punch had a good game.

Agree4 Disagree0

If I was manager and my striker didn't score in games when he had easy chances. it would be a simple decision, get on the bench

Agree1 Disagree1

Totally agree.

Agree1 Disagree1

Good job you are not manager! You would just end up with your top scorer unfit to start the season! You really thought that one through.

Agree1 Disagree1

How would this make your top scorer unfit? if he played the pre season and scored none and another of our strikers scored shed loads be a simple choice really! you say lambert never scores in pre season if I was poch I'd be a tad worried why he ain't putting 6 yard opportunity a away ( sitters)

Saints to hijack tottenham's bid for soldado. Would be a great signing, in the Spanish national side, only 25 mil, 4 more that we would pay for Damiao so what are you thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable19

28 years old so we won't pay that much for him plus valencia are €300m in debt so no need to pay that much.

Agree7 Disagree11

I'd prefer Dzeko if i'm honest. I don't fancy waisting more time on strikers we can't get or don't want to come. Dzeko although a bit part at City would defo help us out and would be I feel a big signing

Agree10 Disagree4

I'd rather have Soldado than Damio. Be amazing if we could get him! Can't see it hapening though.

Agree5 Disagree3

Valencias manager said in an interview that he would cost €30 million no more no less no negotiations were his exact words so I highly doubt that.

Agree6 Disagree2

Just to let you all know Banega is now 5/6 with the bookies to sign for Saints. Bookies very rarely get it wrong so maybe this could be still happening. However they do cover themselves in most cases so who knows. Just looks more likely than a week ago.

Agree3 Disagree0

30m Euros is around £25m isn't it?

Agree4 Disagree0

A week ago they weren't taking bets on Banega because they thought it was wrapped up and now they are offering odds. Step backwards IMO

Agree4 Disagree1

I can't get odds on Messi and Renaldo both joining Saints so it must be a sure thing after all!

Agree5 Disagree2

It's because there's no such player as renaldo mate!

Agree6 Disagree0

Not no odds you person, no bets! As in " will not take a bet on this as we are sure its a done deal. "

Agree0 Disagree0

This conversation reminds me of the film snatch. All. Bets. Are. Off.

I do agree that Banega has gone very quiet ad with his wish to stay there I think it might be dead. I just hope NC has some other options.

Agree2 Disagree1

Betting agencies stop taking bets when they can no longer cover the payout. They have no inside sources. They simply follow how bets are placed.

Agree2 Disagree0

Dzeko said this morning that he is happy at City fighting with 3 other top strikers. He won't be leaving this window.
I Agree we need one more striker and Soldado would be a better bet than Damaio IMO. I still think there is someone else out there who could do the job, but I don't know who it is yet! I would love to see Torres though. Quality striker who "struggled" last year and still got 20 goals in all competitions. Would be amazing!

Agree0 Disagree0

No you're right! a company that could potentially lose millions on the outcome of one event doesn't have any inside source that would help them predict the outcome and perhaps save money! no definitely not.

Agree0 Disagree0

Getting Bale back 'would be amazing' but like Torres it ain't going to happen

Agree1 Disagree0

Insider trading is a criminal offence. If betting companies had inside sources, they could stack the odds in order to influence where bets are placed. They could shorten odds to increase the amount of bets on a certain outcome. If Messi suddenly became 2/1 odds to join Southampton, there'd me a massive influx of bets.

Southampton to make a play for Rod Fanni from Olympique de Marseille.

Believable1 Unbelievable9

I heard we are after carl dickinson as back up to clyne from watford, I just hope we get better back up on the left for shaw

st stuie

Agree1 Disagree9

If management see Fox as part of their plans then we won't be getting a LB simples. We have Targett in the wings and maybe we will see him feature more this season ready to challenege Shaw next year or even by January

Agree0 Disagree2

Thought young Target was supposed to be the man.
Ed, you heard anything please.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - not regarding a left back, I have not heard of any search for cover there, as Targett, Fox and Shaw are seen as enough. I am told you are searching for a right back, but I have heard of no bids going in for any myself.}

Kyle naughton is the right back

Agree5 Disagree0

I Would like to see chambers as back up, he is impressive and would be another academy player to play in the first team.

Agree1 Disagree0

OK Ed thanks, no left back cover coming in then.

Agree5 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, no. Mind getting a right back also allows Clyne to cover left back in times of need too, so, thinking about it, it wouldn't really make sense to buy one right now. You have probably the best young left back in the country, in Shaw, with a potentially better young one in Targett close to breaking through. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense not to buy one, as it means either stifling young player's development or them sitting on the bench most weeks.}

If I was the manager I would too be chasing Fanni

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed052's Note - I made a joke about Fanni yesterday. Make sure Ed007 doesn't see it, he won't stop laughing}
