I think as a saints fan, I think that I would prefer Hooper over Jay Rodriguez, what do other saints fans think?
Hooper has looked good at Celtic but anyone could score up there! However, Adkins knows him well and his judgement should be better based than any of us.
Rodriguez has a lot of pundits singing his praises and on the whole, I would say the Championship is a higher average level than the SPL-HOWEVER he looked pretty ordinary against Saints defence so could he cope in the Premiership?
You pays your money and takes your choice-but in either case what money, because both are a risk as to whether they can make that step up. Some people are talking about £10m as being the value for either, but at that price I think Cortese and Adkins would feel there are more secure options elsewhere.
I wouldnt take jay rodriguez, ild take kalou whos available on a free transfer.. yes he struggled to get into the team that just won the european cup..but hwen he did play, he made an impact, hes so much pace and still young enough to develop.. can also play as a winger when needed and a current international
Both young with a lot of pottential. Would be happy to see either at St Mary's
Off load Forte & Guly use Lee in the wider role and buy both Jay Rod and Hooper - we may need 4 good stickers
I like guly. he is a great player when he gets the ball.. i think this year we will see his full potential
Really have to disagree, no football brain, no commitment on pitch, poor finisher, ok in league1, average in championship, too pot for premiership
Poor finisher? Got into double figures this season. All before January (All before fans like you needlessly started to abuse him!)
Sorry, but Guly was awful in the latter stages of last season. It wasnt just that his form was poor, it was the lack of energy from him. Getting the ball, being closed down to defenders and passing to a player a couple of feet away is all well and good, but at that point he HAS to move. Dont just stand there, MOVE! If you dont your not an option for a pass and are just dropping you team mate in it. Having said that, I didnt hear any booing all season. Grumbles but no booing. As for the amount of goals he scored, I see that as a testament to the standard of delivery from midfield more than anything else. He has done very well for us in the lower leagues, and for that we must thank him, but I think a new right midfield is a must. As for the Hooper/Jay rod thing. From what I've seen of hooper he seems very similar to what we already have in Lambert and Sharp. For that reason I'd much prefer Jay rod. I think he'd provide more variation. More of an edge of the box striker than a poacher, we already have 2 of them that are as good as they come. Looking forward to next season! COYR's!
Guly is a liability. He makes poor decisions in final 3rd, doesn't track back well and his marking in defensive situations is awful... he cost us victory a few times this season most notably at Fratton Park. He can score the odd good goal, but at this level I expect no less but to have reliability in other ways too. He is not up to scratch to do well in the Prem.
I'd rather Hooper than Rod. But agree, for £10m or there abouts, I'd expect a proven top level striker e.g. Defoe. Scoring against poor Championship sides and SPL sides doesn't mean you'll score in the Prem. If I had to pick, I'd go Hooper over Rod.
Yeah guly didn't play his best towards the end but cut him some slake he scored 11 more than de ridder puncheon chaplow Barnard Connelly, so why doesnt he deserve a chance in the prem.
I agree that the money we would have to spend to land Jay Rod or Hoop is way to much. As someone said above you could get defoe for that, now that would be a good worth the money signing.
Right I'm a saints fan and Defoe would never come to us,as much as I would love it but there are bigger prem clubs after him
No way
Nigel Adkins also knew Forte very well, and we all know how that went....his judment isn't always spot.
Forte was brought in as a squad player just to thicken the squad a bit. Anyway, his two goals vs MK Dons certainly helped is anyway so don't moan!
I'd rather have Charlie Mulgrew from Celtic.
