Rumour has it that Saints are prepared to offer £22 million to secure Mineiro wonderkid Bernard.
Personally I doubt the interest is genuine. Mineiro have yet to receive a single actual offer and this might just be agents and such trying to force other clubs to actually move for the player. Still, would be nice to sign a player of his calibre, even for that price.

Rather than splashing out 20m on damiao, which I beleive is a big risk how about someone like Loic Remy I know he has his issues but did well in a poor qpr side, with the amount of chances we create he should get 15-20 goals for us and we could prob get for 7m

I couldn't find any news on the web about a link to bernard? On another note did anyone else see the pre season uncovered video of the 8-0 win. class moment when guly scored his hatrick and a few saints fans started a pitch invasion lol! Isgrove looked very very quick in that game too! Ehy not give him the wide man role he'd skin most defenders to the ball.
Agree3
Disagree0
The only problem with Remy is his court case that is coming up. But would be quality otherwiae
Agree3
Disagree0
He's reported to be on £75k per week at QPR, can't see him taking that much of a pay cut, and we surely would not be stupid enough to pay that!
Agree3
Disagree0
I have been thinking from the moment QPR were relegated, that Remy would be a great signing imo
Agree2
Disagree2
No one is going to buy Remy until the rape allegation hanging over him is sorted out.
Agree5

This Bernard looks awesome but I've also read that arsenal are interested. I'm sure he'd rather go there.
Agree2

Odds on the signing of either Osvaldo or Damaio have significantly shortened over the last 24 hours. Maybe something is going to happen soon.

Southampton interested in Lille winger Florian Thauvin for £6m but face competition from Arsenal and Newcastle
Believable4

This is the sort of signing Saints should be going for. Right age, bags of potential, good price - and realistic.
Agree10
Disagree3
Good signing we need a winger
Agree2

We don't play with wingers. Narrow attacking midfielders.
Agree3

"We don't play with wingers. Narrow attacking midfielders. "
He's an attacking midfielder who also plays on the wing.
Agree1
Disagree0
We always lacked a Plan B and a system with wingers wd be welcome
Agree4
Disagree0
Think if we played with wingers we may not concede so many goals. Luke and Nat when overlapping last season left holes in our suspect defence. Tricky wingers quite often pull more than one player out of position. We need to score more goals and crosses from the dead ball line seem to be the best way. Remember how the great Mike Channon got to the goal line and cut it back inside, defenders hate a ball coming from behind them.
Agree2
Disagree1
Versatility is the key to success. Modern managers will change tactics numerous times during a game, we won't have the same tactics every game. Wingers are needed.

Southampton are trying to complete a near 50million euro double signing to get Brazillian duo Bernard and Damiao. Seems an awful lot to spend after all the money spent on Wanyama and Lovren.
Believable6

Wow you're right, that does seem a lot. Good thing it's not happening then.

I would love it if this was true, but seems a bit much
Agree4

That's more like 55 million lol, Bernard £21 million, Damiao £21 million, plus add ons and other fees be about 54-55 million and we aren't in for Bernard
Agree6

Because it's not true. :)

I love it if this was actually going to happen, but I think someone has started their friday night drinks at lunchtime!

I can't see us spending another €50m on only 2 players maybe 1 for a 1/4 of that

I've heard some whoppers but this takes the biscuit! That one will keep me laughing all day cheers!

Never going to happen. If they managed to land one of them, it'd be a massive coup. Both? No way.

Have just watched a video of Bernard. Absolute class. If we got both players I think I'll strip naked and run down our street. can't see it.
Agree5

I would have loved both of them but ^you would ruin it for me!
Seriously though, it's not going to happen!
Agree3

If it seems an awful lot why did you make it up? Could at least make up a rumour that seems realistic
Agree2
Disagree1
Really? 50 million on two players. Lol
Agree3
Disagree1
How rich do you think Southampton are? Chelski will probably not spend this much
Agree2
Disagree6
Why get Bernard for £20m or £25m when we could get Florian Thauvin who is the same age for £6m
Agree0
Disagree1
^how rich do you think southampton are?
Well, as rich as we actually are. Richest in the prem in terms of debt (we have none) and 4th richest in terms of backing.
Agree7
Disagree2
I agree he's expensive but an incredible talent. Really impressive.
No. Chelsea probably won't spend this much. However, I remember them and others spending vastly more pre seasons on players.
I don't think we will get them both. I think it's too much too soon.
I can find nothing linking us to Bernard.
Damiao is a potential but I expect it will get high jacked by a 'bigger' named club.
Agree6
Disagree0
Having wealthy owners and having a big transfer budget are two very different things.
Yes Saints have some of the wealthiest backing and are debt free, but they are aiming to be run sustainably (unlike other clubs who spend big). We also have an average fan base for a prem team.
Don't get arrogant because we have rich owners. We're run very sensibly, and won't be paying that much on two players, least not until we are guaranteed European football and can justify it.
Agree6
Disagree0
^ This guy knows his stuff right. Do you know what spending that kind of money with no guarantee of returns is called? Unsustainable business model. It's what'll kill off clubs like Chelsea and City and I for one pray we continue to do good business like Cortese has been, as opposed to as OP would see us do.
Agree5
Disagree0
Surely it would be two separate transactions as both players play for different teams
Agree2
Disagree1
Is this Chinese whispers? We're actually trying to sell Barnard and it ends up with a rumour we are buying Bernard!
Jannersaint

Would be amazing! But this is soo not going to happen. It would be like when west ham got tevez and mascgerano! Problem would be, if we did get them, is they'd be off to Madrid or barca within 18 months.

Southampton are continuing to strike up a deal for Damiao as it was confirmed last night in the link below:
http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/esclusiva-tmw-damiao-nuovi-contatti-con-il-southampton-le-ultime-469263
If you can't translate:
It basically says that Saints have continued to negotiate with Damaio and trying to sign him
Again its paper talk but its hope we can cling onto :)
Believable6
Unbelievable2
Wow I really do like it when people back up their rumours with links :). I would love this to be true but in the same breath Tutto were the ones who were sure Ramirez was leaving to Inter? So I do wonder who their sources are.

"New contacts, the objective remains Leandro Damiao. The Southampton strong tip sull'attaccante Internacional, is the first choice and remains so. Possible concrete developments within 4-5 days, President Cortese in the last hours has positive feelings. Even if you have to address to shave a few important details, because the agreement between the parties is not there yet. The Southampton continues to work, because Damiao is the first name on the list of satisfaction. More than Oswald and the other strikers who were matched to the squad. Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino stated that it will greatly player Internacional de Porto Alegre. " this the translation In full by me, nah jokes google translate lol. kinda seems like it could happen for us then :0 basically what this is saying is that Saints are in poll postion and remain the main contenders for his signature and that something is expected to happen in the next 4-5 days because an agreement isn't quite there yet and they are basically still in talks about the money how it will be paid. and that LD is our top target higher than Osvaldo. personally I would take Osvaldo but. LD seems more fitted to our club in that I think he would fit in with the lads and not cause problems, kinda what I got from it
Agree4

Saints sign him we are obviously going to be top 10 with ease if not futher up the table every one will fear the saints COYR
Agree2
Disagree2
Don't be surprised if this is a ruse to attract a bigger club. We do all the work, squeeze him on terms, then one of Europes elite swoop in and match it. I understand Liverpool tried to do this last-minute with Ramires last season.
Agree1
Disagree1
Liverpool didn't get him though and they aren't quite elite in Europe anymore.
But still it could happen.

Liverpool have real difficulties straightening out multi owner contracts-we have NC as the ace on this one!

Some people may remember that I stated we were going back in for Damiao a week or so ago after the deal was apparently dead. I was also told I was talking rubbish.
Guess what? we are back in for him, and he is seen as the signing Saints want.
From what I hear we are fairly close to getting our man, but it is going to be a tricky signing to pull off.

Lambert is now a target for West Ham according to many websites. I don't believe that he would leave us for them. Lambert was linked with west ham in January but the bid was rejected and I am positive the same will happen this time.
Believable7

He signed a 2 year extention to his contract just before the end of the season. This is just big Sam letting off some wind, and it will backfire again.
Agree6

They can't afford him even if he wanted to move they are after frees after signing that sick note Andy Carroll
Agree3

Obviously west ham want lambert he would be perfect for the way they play never going to happen thought
Agree5

I'm not too sure, I'm hearing 6m-8m, I think that's a good deal, but definitely need a replacement like osvaldo or Damiao!

What would be the point in Rickie going to a tinpot club like west hoof? Besides, he like the ball at his feet, not interfering with air traffic control.
Agree2
Disagree1
According to big fat Sam on tv the
Hammers can afford one more player
who they're talking to and it wasn't
Sir Rickie thank God.
Agree3
Disagree0
Fans who wouldn't mind Rickie going if another striker came in are most definitely 'Plastics'. besides we need another striker so what's the point with one in one out when we need another
Agree3
Disagree1
I see no reason why we would want sell Lambert, he was involved in something like 41% of our goals last season. Why would we sign a player to bolster our squad and let our most prolific goal scorer go? Wouldn't it make more sense to have both?
Yeah we could cash in on Lambert now instead of letting him retire with us, but I think think we would benefit more if Lambert stays then we would with the 8 or so million we would get from him now.
The problem with players ageing is them losing pace, Lambert has never had pace and I think he would be amazing on a slightly deeper role anyway, with his ball control, vision and passing.
Keep Sir Rickie until the day he retires I say and don't let the like of West Ham reap the benefits from him.
Agree6

This is standard practice by West Hoof when they want to sell more season tickets or merchandise! Same marketing approach their owners use for porn. , saying they will feature "bigger" stars next week! Absolute joke!
