The people is almost as credible a source as the Sunday sport. Hooper is going to renegotiate his contract in the summer but he still has 2 years left on his current deal.

You would say that, You're prob a Celtic fan

Agree7 Disagree4

I am a Celtic fan but this is still rubbish. Dont get your hopes up mate.

Papers print stories to shift copies, this is just another example of why you shouldn't believe everything you read in the rags.

Agree8 Disagree5

Agree - also strongly suspect that football agents 'encourage' speculation to aid in negotiating wage increases.

Agree7 Disagree2

Not getting my hopes up, just feel there's some truth in this story, Adkins didn't dismiss a major signing before Tues.

Genuine question if Oxlade chamberlain is worth 12m is Hooper worth 8m? Consider that chambo will probably go for 20m + at some point. I cant see that happening with Hooper. No doubt he is would good but i cant see him being top 4 prem good. Celtic Fans? BTW I cant se him comming to Saints in Jan (its just no in his or Celtics interest)

No footballer is worth this silly money. Time it stopped and the money in football was spread around more to improve the infrastructure and reduce admission prices for all fans and to provide high quality facilities/coaching to encourage and develop young players nationwide, etc, etc. How can players be worth more than the cost of building new stadiums? If they worked for a bank people would (rightly) be up in arms at this silly money. Football has lost all perspective. End of rant!

Agree4 Disagree2

Not entirely true. I remember when ronaldo signed for £80mil or whatever. it was calculated that he only had to sell something along the lines of 8million shirts (excluding any other ronaldo based pariphenalia) so hooper, in his entire would-be saints career would only have to sell 800,000 shirts. sounds a lot but take into account that if he helps saints win games, he brings in more gate reciepts. if, like lambert, he becomes a fan favourite, he is going to bring in more shirt sales, scalf sales, whatever and so is infact helping the 'infrastructure' as you put it. 'end of rant reply'

Complete bulls**t sharpe is having medical haha

That's a narrow business model that ultimately doesn't work. It doesn't respect football or football fans and it leads to football clubs being overloaded with debt. Even the few 'big' clubs who siphon off most of the money in football are carrying enormous debts - look at Man U or Chelsea or even Real Madrid and Barcelona further afield. And what of the 'smaller' clubs? You seem to have forgotten it took a billionaire Swiss family to rescue Southampton. Our nasty neighbours are struggling, as are many others. Player loyalty has become rarer and fan loyalty is cynically exploited. The FA and the Football League are becoming more toothless. Silly money transfer fees and wages are not helping to support and develop football as a cohesive or sustainable community, they are strangling it. Greed is rampant. Lower admission prices anyone?

Looks like an agent is involved in the Gary Hooper saga - now we've signed Billy Sharp there's a new rumour that Zenit and CSKA are after him, released just after Sharp signed. Bet Celtic fans are getting fed up with the relentless speculation!
