Nigel Adkins and Reading's DoF seen with Ricky Lambert this evening. It doesn't sound very positive. Neutrals posted a photo on personter. Unforgivable from Nigel if they take him. Otherwise I was wishing him well when he took the Reading job!

Believable1 Unbelievable24

. money rules. it's a business remember!1

Agree6 Disagree3

Can you post a link?

Agree5 Disagree1

I doubt Lambert will be moving down a league to join up with Reading. If he does though it'll be for one hell of a fee and we'll already have a top notch replacement lined up.

Agree13 Disagree2

Rickie was pictured in our new home kit. You're persons if you believe he's going to Reading.

Agree10 Disagree2

He's waited all his football life to get to play in premier and to play his beloved liverpool at anfield. he's prob got 1 good season left in him so. he's going to join reading

Agree7 Disagree3

The modern day "Teddy Sherringham"?

Agree7 Disagree2

Might have been a social meeting. The third person is there to provide confirmation that there was no tapping up going on. Sir Ricky is not for sale. Unkess we have got a 20 million quid brazil goal scoring machine lined up to replace him.

Agree7 Disagree1

Saints won't sell him unless for a big fee. He still has a lot of marketability and as a previous poster said he loves the club and is living the dream.

I can see him joining reading and playing for NA again but is say he has another 2 years with us. My money is on him being a coach with us when he's done.

Agree4 Disagree2

Rickie won't leave he loves the club and the premier league and he hopes to play for england if he joins reading that dream dies for him, with saints there still a chance.

Agree5 Disagree1

Being pictured in our new kit means nothing, Van Persie was modelling the arsenal kit last year.

Agree5 Disagree2

Made me laugh this good 1

Agree8 Disagree2

Rickie going no where, he won't leave Southampton for anyone except Liverpool. And I doubt he will play under Nigel again considering Rickie thought he was incompetent and complained to NC with a number of other players not long before he was sacked

Agree6 Disagree5

1. Rickie is very happy and will not want to leave unless his 1st team action is under threat - which it isn't.

2. Even at his age, Cortese would command a fee which would be far too much for the likes of Reading to pay.

3. Rickie would not go back to the Championship and there are a lot of Premiership clubs that would have him even if we were to sell.

4. Pathetic attempt at a wind up.

Agree9 Disagree1

They were having dinner together, maybe it is because I dunno, because they are friends? that's what friends do. And Nigel is a very nice chap so not surprised Rickie is still friends with him. JEEZE

Agree2 Disagree4

Haha Rickie certainly is living the dream and Nige is living in a dreamworld! Got a lot of respect for Nige as too rickie has, they prob went out for a couple beers talk about liverpool and so forth but Sir Rick of lambert is going nowhere!

ScummyAncelotti.

Agree3 Disagree1

Re-iterating what was said above, Rickie was one of the players complaining about Adkins' regime when he was sacked. He wouldn't go to work under him again. He loves our club and has said multiple times he wants to retire here. Liverpool would be the only club who he'd maybe leave for.

Agree4 Disagree2

Can't two friends go for a drink together?

Agree4 Disagree2

Dont forget they worked together nearly everyday for nearly 3 years so they will be close friends and rickie has said he wants to end his playing days with us

Agree3 Disagree0

No one was complaining about the regime and players were shocked when Adkins was sacked, I know one of the players. Some people on here talk a load c**p

Agree4 Disagree7

Is this the same Nigel Adkins who tried dropping Rickie at the start of last season?

OTOH, the rumours going about us preparing to bid for Damiao and Pochettino saying Roma contacted the club stating that Osvaldo was for sale suggests we are looking at spending big on a CF. If something like that DOES happen, Rickie may well find a decrease in playing time.

Agree1 Disagree2

Lol u say people talk crap yet u claim to know a player lmao

Agree3 Disagree1

This could potentially be the last year he will be able to retain a first team spot in an EPL side. So why would he drop down a league? So it's extremely unlikely to happen. Actually this is absolutely ridiculous.

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Jun 2013 21:20:34
a web site are reporting osvaldo has rejected saints, but didn't poch say in a interview we wasn't going to bid although he new about his situation. Eds, Are a web site a reliable source. Thanks

Believable4 Unbelievable2

According to Pochettino we never bid but did look into the possibility having been told he was available.

Agree6 Disagree2

Ricky Lambert may be 31 but what he lacks in youth and pace is replaced by incredible game sense which makes up for both the previous. MP is up front stating that RL is an exceptional player. He is never injured like some of the young prima donnas and is a credit to our great club. He is not going anywhere and will probably end up part of the backroom staff when he hangs his boots up. I think he has 2 good years left in him at the top level and then could be used from the bench after that if only to take the penalties!

Agree9 Disagree0

The last 2 seasons, lambert has developed a back strain towards the run in. Hence the drop in form at the end of the season. In both cases we have had no back up and hence have continued to play him.

Agree2 Disagree1

Age is just a number, there are a few players in seria A that are over 30 and put the youngsters to shame, pirlo for one! Even giggs is still runnin rings around players in the prem. lambert won't go so easily i'm sure!

Agree4 Disagree0

Why are we talking about Lambert?

damiaos club have rubbished claims that they will sell him to saints, had a good idea this was to good to be true,

Believable7 Unbelievable5

Basically seems to be a case of, we expressed interest as many hundreds of clubs apparently have but like all the other clubs apparently have not bothered to put in a serious bid for some peculiar reason.

Agree4 Disagree3

Didn't Bologna say they weren't selling Ramirez? Same as Burnley/J-Rod iirc too

Reckon we'll have pulled this off within a week

Agree3 Disagree3

Where does it say his club have rubbished reports? Made that up by any chance?

Agree2 Disagree2

Have just found it. He said nothing of the sort about not selling him to Saints. Spurs fan by any chance?
Article says they have received no firm offers but are waiting. They also state that they are trying to sign players. As per the other poster, the message is very similar to that of the Bologna chairman during Ramirez saga

Agree2 Disagree2

Check news now st ripper

Agree2 Disagree1

We have put in an initial bid with further discussions to be held this week. That or we are flying to Brazil to see some riots, the confed cup final, and enjoy the nice weather.

Agree2 Disagree1

St Ripper, I'm not the original poster but it's not hard to find these reports with very basic investigatory skills.

To help you out a little, type "sambafoot leandro damiao" into google. One of the top few links will be the story reported above that you're struggling to find.

Maybe don't be so harsh and judgemental on fellow posters in the future?

Agree5 Disagree2

I would say that's a good sign, I'd imagine Nicola has told them to keep quiet

Agree2 Disagree0

Perhaps original poster you should have the cahones to put your name on it so we know how reliable you are? Oh, and that is obviously not very reliable at all as you have totally misquoted the article, putting a nice anti Saints slant on it, which it does not have. Just like the rest of the media will.
I can use the Internet. Shame you obviously can't read?

Agree1 Disagree1

The top headlines come from a website called sambafoot.com reading INTERNACIONAL RUBBISH RUMOURS LINKING LEANDRO DAMIAO TO SOUTHAMPTON is that clear enough for you mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

That's the headline, but did you not actually read the article you donut? The club made no mention of Saints at all. Just that no firm offer had been received. Which we all know. That's why Saints are sending a delegation out there according to Sky Italia.
person fans who just read sensational headlines are very tiresome as they have nothing to add. Keep to the facts eh?

Agree3 Disagree2

Director of football Luis Cesar Souto de Moura admits there has been interest, but he is hopeful that Damiao will not be going anywhere.

Agree0 Disagree1

That's not the posters fault though is it? He didn't put the slant on it. He just repeated what the site had in the headline. Not sure why you should accuse him of not being able to read!

Lenny

Agree3 Disagree1

A deal for Damiao would take ages to do even if we put in a bid due as there is a whole bunch of 3rd party ownership issues and Internacional's chairman has a reputation for being hard to deal with.

When Spurs tried for him last summer he suddenly asked for a massive increase in money just as everything was close to getting done and Spurs backed out.

Agree0 Disagree1

To the mellon head who wrote ha ha ha about my post above, get reel, chill, I love saints as much as u do but I think we should try to sign players who will come to the club, I saw lukaku play last season against saints, I think he would be an amazing signing, in my opinion, i'm sure friend your find something to moan about thoe

Agree3 Disagree3

Lenny,
This is a Rumours site, not an Unsubstatiated Sensational Headline site?
Surely people are coming on to this site to find out who Saints might be in for. The whole thing becomes a bit redundant if fans slavishly state what the headline says rather than summarising the actual content of the article. And if we all go and have to find the actual article for the site, what is the point of actually having this page.
And for those who think we shouldn't be going for Damiao, again, this is a rumours site. The banter site is really for where you can share your opinions, to those who want to read them, unless it is in context of the article.

In addition to the other poster above Spurs did not go for Damiao last summer. Basless claim. The rumour is that they talked to Internacional in January, rumoured to be E15m, but as the club's DoF says, not firm offer was actually placed. And certainly no offer was was discussed at the same level as the substantiated that we are rumoured to have done. E20m

So, if people post rumours on here. Please keep it to the actual rumour. Not a baseless headline or waffle claimed in a Spurs forum

Agree1 Disagree3

St tripper do you honestly think saints are going to sign every player mentioned on the net, i'd love saints to sign him but is he really a realistic target I think not my misrible friend ha ha

Agree2 Disagree1

"St tripper" quoter, I think you have had trouble understanding anything that I have said above. Perhaps you should ask someone to explain to you what "might" and "rumour" means, then maybe you wouldn't be quite so disadvantaged and would then agree with what I have said?

Agree1 Disagree2

Seen the leandro Damiao rumours and love it would be amazing just think its funny people who say it will take the pressure off lambert, I'm sorry but he would take Lamberts place.

Believable17 Unbelievable11

He can play on the wing as well though can't he?

Agree6 Disagree9

Totally agree he will take lamberts place. Don't really see damiao as a wide player not the quickest but he nos where the net is. COYR

Agree7 Disagree6

I would love to imagine that we might buy any player who would offer more overall than Rickie Lambert, unfortunately his place will only be taken when he is not fit to play! The contribution made to the team by one player, in terms of vision, strength, accuracy of pass, and of course great finishing with his right foot and his head would be near impossible to replace, that's if you ignore the 31 penalties taken 31 scored!

Agree13 Disagree1

Damiao won't come to Southampton. These sort of rumors are not positive things for the club. Like most of the players we have been 'linked' with he has been the subject of well reported interest from large clubs. I would have hoped during last season the scouting network would have identified less well know flowering talent that could be snapped up early and cheaply and moulded to become top Saints players.

Agree13 Disagree10

He's also 6ft 2ins like rickie

Agree5 Disagree1

Damiao is actually very quick.

Lenny

Agree9 Disagree4

It's all very well people saying 'he won't come to Southampton' about this post and other high profile targets, but the same nameless posters were saying the same about Gaston Ramirez last year.

Regarding Damiao, it was a Saints player that took football to Brazil - so I guess for any Brazilian, Southampton would hold a certain something.

Remember Mark Lawensons word regarding the potential Ramirez signing? "It will never happen"

WTFILN?

Agree6 Disagree2

I believed in the Ramirez saga. But I have my doubts on this. But I really really hope I am proven wrong.

Agree5 Disagree1

Last summer people laughed when we were linked with Clyne, they laughed harder when we were linked with JayRod and they split their sides when the Ramirez stories came out. We have been linked to some serious big guns this summer. I don't suggest we will get all or indeed any of these, just that I do sense that the haters may well be silenced before the end of this window. This is an altogether bigger, bolder, more financially stable and ambitious southampton fc, mock us at your peril. COYS!

Agree9 Disagree3

How you can compare Clyne and JayRod to Damiao is beyond me.

Agree8 Disagree6

Think what the guy is getting at is at the time clyne was linked to utd and jay rod was attracting interested from everton and we got them both! he's not comparing clyne and jay to damiao he's mearly comparing the situations.

Agree9 Disagree1

I'm not comparing Clyne and JayRod to him, quite obviously? I'm making a point about other supporters perceptions of our capabilities in the transfer market and the move away from southampton being a selling club to a progressive, ambitious one. How did you not get that?

Agree8 Disagree0

There is no way he will come to us. We are just being mentioned so he can get a better deal else where. We are no where near to signing players of this calibre.

Agree3 Disagree5

He knows where the net is but has no idea where Southampton is, lol

Agree4 Disagree6

As neymar has just signed for barca why don't saints put in bid for pedro good player right age and probably available at good price

Agree5 Disagree2

I don't ever remember people laughing at the prospect of signing JRod. We tried to sign him the season we were promoted to the Championship, and yet nobody really laughed then either.

We got ourselves a bargain in Clyne, but the same again. It's not unusual for Championship prospects to go to newly promoted clubs.

Ramirez on the other had, I agree completely.

Agree1 Disagree2

Personally I think Saints are not used to theses sort of links. If there is any truth in these rumours we should be proud! It certaintly looks like we are going in the right direction.
When was the last time we were competing for players the top six were looking at. This season is certainly up for grabs. We made a good account of ourselves with all the top teams at home last season.
If we sign players that are not greedy and looking for a fresh challenge we could seriosly

Agree1 Disagree0

I clearly remember Newcastle fans finding it hilarious that we had the audacity to be interested in a player heavily linked to them (Clyne).
JayRod was also linked with Everton and a couple of other prem sides. Based on this few outside of Southampton believed we had the money to compete for his signature. There was silence when we got him and then when Gaston signed with his record fee, jaws dropped. As someone said earlier it is down to a general ignorance of the details of clubs outside of the top 6.

Agree2 Disagree0

Following from my last post where I didn't spell seriously right!
We could definitely be top 6 material. We have the finance, kit deal and sponsor to take this Club to the next level.
We just need all these potential players to believe in our project!

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk about damiao being to big for southampton is rubbish don't get me wrong he is a good player but 28 goals in 72 games is not a very good ratio so is don't get why he's so sought after

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all, there was a lot of interest from Tottenham and at the moment I think they might have the upper hand on us over Damiao. Also, we can't just kick our all english, class strikeforce of Lambert and Rodriguez out of the team

Agree1 Disagree0

Hi eds any truth in saints bidding 20million euros for leandro damiao? {Ed002's Note - I understand that whilst there is interest there has been no formal offer.}

Believable6 Unbelievable6

By far in my opinion the best player we have been rumoured to be linked with.

Agree3 Disagree2

Saints really showing ambition in the transfer market. Hope we pull a couple off. COYR

Agree5 Disagree2

If we pull off getting Damiao, it should become a lot easier to convince other targets of the ambition and what we can do. But that is one big 'if'. Great ambition though.

Agree7 Disagree1

I understand different I understand a bid. of 20 million has been offered for him and that a meeting is expected to take place over the mext few days

Sunderland echo reporting that Southampton are one of the clubs bendtner is considering.

Jannersaint

Believable4 Unbelievable17

Would not be a fan of this signing at all if it happened!

Agree15 Disagree3

Oh sweet merciful god no.

Agree14 Disagree1

Are you kidding me! He's terrible!

Agree13 Disagree4

He maybe considering Southampton but, there is little chance Southampton are considering him. So if Sunderland want him let them fill their boots. Southampton are going for Damaio

Agree10 Disagree0

Don't want him, he's useless, we've already got one in that mould, Guly.

Agree9 Disagree6

Well perhaps he feels he has something to prove. Although in saying that, I hope he does that else where.

Agree9 Disagree0

Please no. Bendtner has less potential than George Weah's cousin.

Stussy

Agree10 Disagree1

Guly is BOSS

Lenny

Agree10 Disagree5

I think this wouldn't be a bad signing, he's not bad at international level, had a good year on loan at Birmingham early in his career, his only problem is he thinks he's as good as Messi and Ronaldo so he thinks he should play for a big team. Moving to Southampton (an up and coming team, with the potential for something great) might not be a bad move for both player and club. A bigger fish in a smaller pond might unlock everything Bendtner believes he has.

Agree4 Disagree4

Yeah NB was class at Birmingham but that was 6season or so ago

Agree1 Disagree3

Even guly is better than him

Agree1 Disagree3

More likely he's considering Eastleigh

Many of you won't believe this, but saints have just placed a bid of around €20m for Leandro Damiao of Brazil! Talks are set to take place next week apparently! .

Mini-Saint

Believable8 Unbelievable4

It's been reported on tv italia? Don't know why they'd report it first but it's true €20 million. What a coupe this could be! {Ed002's Note - I understand that whilst there is interest there has been no formal offer.}

Agree7 Disagree1

Source and how sure are you fella?

Agree2 Disagree1

You're right, I don't believe this.

Agree3 Disagree0

Cant see it happening would love this

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah I've just seen the tweet from that Cnn itaian reporter.

Agree2 Disagree0

We will get him plus 2 more signings by next sat,

saintmick

Agree0 Disagree10

Admire our ambition, but there's no chance hell come here.

If we wouldn't pay wanyamas agents fee (which I admire), surely this guys agent will want even more!

Agree4 Disagree2

Saw Tancredi Palmeri report this too, and it was him that announced Ramirez had signed for us a week before we'd all started talking about him. exciting times.

Agree5 Disagree1

It proves that we are aiming high and looking for top quality players but I doubt he'll join us. If we did though then what an amazing signing that would be and a striker like that would definitely take the pressure off lambert.

Agree6 Disagree0

Agents normally get 5% of the transfer fee, so in Wanyamas case, he should have only got 600,000 and he wanted £1m. Damiao agent fees will be around 850,000 if the estimated £17m transfer fee is correct.

Mini-Saint

Agree3 Disagree3

If we're aiming high and have no chance to hit the target, surely we're wasting our time and should be aiming lower!

Agree1 Disagree4

The 600,000 we paid from october 2011-september 2012 suggest Cortese doesn't pay, 5% 600,000 would be 5% of the ramirez transfer alone. he probably offers 2. 5% and says take it or leave it

Agree1 Disagree0

Didn't spurs pull out of signing him because of 3rd party interests?

Agree4 Disagree0

Anything reported by Tancredi Palmeri must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Lenny
