So is there any truth in the Axel Witsel rumours? That would be a real coup if we managed to get him he's a class act! Any news if our low bid for Pelle has been accepted yet?

Believable4 Unbelievable4

According to dutch newssites the deal with pelle should be wrapped up tomorrow. A fee has been agreed

Agree5 Disagree6

Love this Pelle will be a great addition to the club and squad he's a class act. good job COYR

Thats interesting. I saw somewhere that our bid had been turned down

Agree6 Disagree3

I'd love it if Witsel was true, but I just can't see it happening, he is seriously top class, and as ambitious as we are, I think this maybe one step too far! think coutinho, buttner etc. A "bigger" team comes in and heads turn!

Agree3 Disagree3

Magic I think that's because we dident offer enough

Thanks Ruff. I think that's what I read. For us to go straight back in with a better offer speaks volumes about how much we want him then.

Fingers crossed these two will be unveiled by the weekend. Give the fans a light in the tunnel

Agree2 Disagree1

Its not like we don't have the money, if zenit expect us to equal the price they bought him for then we could, but only if we're certain he's worth the £30ish million

Any rumours regarding a goalkeeper, I think we are going to need one. Best keeper I saw last year was Marshall and I think he could be available at reasonable money. Like Artur but he makes me very Grobelaar nervous!

Agree1 Disagree0

Witsel would be a massive coup, could possibly see it but it depends on how the board sell their vision

@chrisdownj
Marshall would be good but Tan seems the Cortese type who'll probably tell us to 'fruck off'.
Valdes is on a free, injured until the end of the year though. Reina could be an outside chance?

Sky sports saying we have made a bid for pelle

Believable14 Unbelievable2

£6 Million. Sure we could get better strikers for that, or at least put it towards getting someone like Hernandez.

02 Jul 2014 11:54:25
TD why do you think hernadez is better than pelle. Doesn't start for Mexico, long-standing goal drought before world cup. Done nothing for Man Utd.

Agree16 Disagree2

Pelle has got a good scoring record for feynord 55 in 66 games

if you look at last seasons stats at the top 10 leagues last season . pelle is 3rd behind ronaldo and messi for goals scored

Agree11 Disagree5

We'd just be a stepping stone for a player like Hernandez

Agree6 Disagree8

02 Jul 2014 14:44:50
^ probably more like 4th behind messi,
Ron & suarez

Agree3 Disagree3

He was not the thrid highest scorer in europe behind messi and ronaldo. he wasnt even the highest scorer in the dutch league. finnboggason was.

Agree5 Disagree2

Do people with more football knowledge than me believe he is transferable to EPL. Heard that Dutch players are often over rated before they get here.

Agree3 Disagree1

I think the focus on Eredivisie players for goal scoring seems a bit hit or miss. Sure Pelle has a good record in the last 2 years but prior to that in Serie A and even a previous Eredivisie stint he seemed ineffective and he's only been in double figures for goals once in 10 previous seasons, in Serie B (10).
Jozy Altidore scored 20+ goals in the Eredivisie at AZ and he got 1 last year at Sunderland. Brian Ruiz, similar at Twente and then about 5 in 3 years at Fulham. let's hope we get a better return.

Agree3 Disagree0

I think the main thing to consider is pelle will fit right into koemans plans. Koeman knows him inside out and He will probably build a team around him. J rod on his return, along with young Gallagher would offer a good strike force.

Agree4 Disagree0

If SFC think pelle, gallagher, mayuka and j rod is a strong enough strike force I am seriously worried. osvaldo may prove to be a saviour if he stays but I expect him to be sold and 1 more striker to be signed.

Agree3 Disagree4

I think the best person to decide who's right for us is Koeman. Could be the best thing that happened to us MoPo going. Do you think we would have got Ronald Koeman 18 months ago?? Don't think so. Think positive yeah?

Agree3 Disagree1

Just a quickie. Dutch players no good? Have you been watching the world cup. They could win it you know. Point taken?

Agree2 Disagree3

03 Jul 2014 01:00:30
Not remotely saying or suggesting they aren't good. However we all know the EPL is a different style of play compared to Europe.
I had read a football pundit saying that buying dutch often meant players who were overrated compared to others

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I bet it was an English pundit, English players are never overrated.}

03 Jul 2014 03:32:21
Oooh so cynical ;-)

But yes. Yes it was

Agree2 Disagree1

Chrisdownj No one we mentioned is actually Dutch. I think the point is the Dutch league is not as strong and goals there are easier to come by than say Epl, serie a etc

Agree2 Disagree0

The point I'm making (and I take yours) is that we are always saying other countries players won't make it in the Premier League etc. Do you think it could be that they have to play along side all our over rated Brit players? By the way how did our 4 nations get on in the world cup. Sorry but it annoys me that we think we can criticise.

Agree1 Disagree1

Honestly, a scoring record of 50 in 66 is great in any league, that's better than Suarez and Bony had in that league and it's better than Lambert ever had in L1 iIrc. The Dutch league is no worse than the Championship really and if a Championship player had that record we'd be raving about them

Agree3 Disagree1

Yes Pelle sounds great. A great scoring record of any class but I have to agree with some of the above comments that we will need a proven striker from the prem to lead the front line. There are enough strikers out there ie IMO would like to see someone like Lukaku up leading the front.

Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt, Robin Van Persie, Arjen Robben, Ruud Van Nistelrooy!

Eredivisie gave us these plus many more.

That alone gives me hope Jude.
Having watched videos on him, he does remind me of SRL. As long as we have the crossers

Reports are suggesting that spiders representatives are speaking to other clubs about the possibility of a transfer!
Sound as though he has also made up his mind to leave.

With Lovren handing in a transfer request as well we can seriously assume neither of these players will be with us come the start of the season and anybody saying that they will are quite deluded. If they both say, as That Judas Lallana did, that they do not want to play for the club again then there would be no point trying to stop them.

I just hope that we sell them both to foreign teams and definitely not Spuds.

Believable11 Unbelievable18

Could offer the captaincy to either one in my opinion - don't know if that's a big deal though! I heard that Koeman asked Lovren for 1 more season and that he said 'no'.

Agree11 Disagree3

Mange tout Rodney, mange tout.

Agree8 Disagree0

Just thought it worth mentioning that we are where we are now due to the likes of AL, MS and SRL etc. why does everybody all of a sudden knock them for technically achieving every footballers dream. Playing in the Champions League and for your country. Deep down I think we all know Saints will not be playing in the CL at least in their playing careers. We may struggle this year but will not be relegated and will come back strong in 2015/2016. Finally we may see the best from Gaston this season if given a chance to play regular games, quality player who reads the game as well as Rickie did. A bit of a lightweight but skill to burn.

Agree11 Disagree14

I was also thinking that Everton might lose their 3 best players from last season as they were all loanees and no one is talking 'meltdown' for them. If we lose Spider and Lovren though, that'll be a struggle.

Agree11 Disagree0

We haven't been knocking Lambert at all we completely understand his exit and the fact he was very courteous about it. Lallana on the other hand was seemingly an absolute **** to the staff of the club and forcing his way out without the slightest piece of respect for the club who brought him to this level in the first place.

Agree18 Disagree3

Couldn't agree more Saintphil, The ad in the Daily Echo was just bs.

Agree15 Disagree2

It's quite impressive he managed to make it bs considering he didn't really say anything in it. Just a big picture of himself. Clearly got his head shoved so far. I don't believe I need to continue.

Agree10 Disagree4

If these players do not want to be a part of this project and no longer wish to play for the club well then bye bye see ya! Let's build a team that want to win and be together. I think we as saints fans must accept this and move on stay positive because the future is bright. Coyr

Lallana isn't a judas! Just an ambitious ayer, I for one am very appriciative of what he's done! Stop slaging the bloke off and think to yourself if I work for this company I get 20000 a week if I work for that companyi get 120000 a week!

Agree5 Disagree12

Its the way he has gone about it, he has been a massive diva about! 14 years we get 23 words, compare that to mata when he left chelsea.

Agree6 Disagree1

02 Jul 2014 17:00:39
People must understand that Lallana and Shaw are English players that fetch premium prices. Lovren and Schneiderlin do not. Therefore the Board did well to sell the former, but I don't think they will agree to selling the latter.

Agree6 Disagree4

Agreed if they are both under long contracts so unless the bids are a joke I. e 30 million each tell em there staying, if they kick up a fuss let em rot in the reserves year is a long time in football so can't see em wanting to spend year in the reserves

Agree3 Disagree2

Here we go again we have these emails knocking these people for leaving our club 'i am going to turn my back when he come here next season'.

We have a great club, well run and with a new squad to be built by Koeman. And with terrific support home and away.

Stop acting like we have an inferiority.
complex. We are on attendance and league position a big uk club, just not as big as some of the others.

Support the team and fingers crossed that we do as well we did last season.
No club anywhere in the world is able to stop players who want to leave

Agree4 Disagree2

I say cash in and buy players who want to play for the club. Let's face it, if lallana had an outstanding season for Liverpool, and Real Madrid or barca came in ( I know I know lol)I'm sure he would want out there too.
Don't take it personally, it's football and players will want to play in big matches. Something saints can't offer now, or within the next 12 months.

and don't fall ror the liverpool old chestnut
we are making our last offer take it or leave it

alright saying let players go if they wish to play elsewhere but it must be for the top price not on the cheap
notice liverpool won't let suarez go on the cheap
