Saints once again linked with diago
And Ings

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Both would (probably) be good signings for us. I don't see it happening though.

Agree7 Disagree1

Is that a reliable link or newspapers lifting off the Internet at places like this because they don't really much of a journalistic job anymore?

Mind you even the tv have noted as a squad we only have three recognised strikers, one of whom is 18 and has played one match in the Premiership! That must be the smallest amount of strikers a Premiership club has this season.

Agree6 Disagree1

Until Osvaldo actually departs we have 4 strikers,. I'm sure Dani won't be allowed to leave without us replacing him. Panic over! We could always recall Billy Sharp lol

Agree2 Disagree5

Or mayuka?

Agree3 Disagree2

Don't want to worry anybody but Rickie is 2/7 to sign for West Ham! Bookies don't get it wrong very often. Any thoughts Ed?

Agree5 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - they get it wrong all the time.}

Lol billy sharp, remember he played his role in our return to the top flight. Show some respect.

Agree4 Disagree0

Lambert was going to West Ham, Saints were happy with the fee, Rickie happy with deal, everything looked rosy till Osvaldo went nuts.

Agree2 Disagree4

Don't want to worry anybody but Rickie is 2/7 to sign for West Ham! Bookies don't get it wrong very often

They always do and those odds show he is 2/7 to join West Ham IF he were to leave. Bet you can't get odds on him staying.

Agree0 Disagree2

Diego will probably run his contract down and return to Brazil. Burnley have said they don't want to sell Ings but have admitted if a big enough offer came in they would probably have to sell. I honestly doubt we sign anyone in this window. Poch said in his interview that he's looking more towards Targett and Gallagher to fill the gaps in left by Fox and (implied) Osvaldo. It's on the OS if anyone wants source.

Agree4 Disagree0

West ham w2ill be in the championship
next season
why would rickie go there

Agree3 Disagree0

Rickie would never leave saints don't speak such blasphemy

You've probably already seen but Osvaldo is talking to Juve about going out on loan with them having a £15m option to buy in the summer. Source - tv website.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Super but I'll bet my house, my wife my kids and my dog that even if they sign him in the summer peramanently £15m will be more than what they actually pay, a lot more!
Of course Cortese and MoPo won't shoulder an ounce of blame just unfortunate he didn't settle in England.

Agree4 Disagree6

Juve need to sell in order to buy so there's no guarantee he'll be sold in the summer, I doubt he'll be going on loan, they're interested but we don't want to get rid

Agree3 Disagree4

I heard the loan deal is already in place for 400K with some bonuses and goal add on doo-berry's. with an option to buy for 20m euro lmao. surely can't be true.

Sain Gibbs

Agree3 Disagree2

Seeing as Cortese is no longer at the club, I doubt he'll have anything to say about it at all.

Agree4 Disagree1

@ Aussie Saint, what was the point in saying that? No one said that Cortese has anything to do with the sale/ loan. What was said was that blame can't be laid at Cortese's door, even though he helped sign him. It was purely a chance taken on an incredibly talented player, who unfortunately couldn't overcome personal/ anger issues and thus didn't gel. I for one would still like to give him a chance, even though I do agree with the punishment. It can take time to settle in a new league, whether that be moving to a foreign country or being promoted to a higher standard. Prime examples are Ronaldo (2 seasons to adjust), Bale (spurs tried to exchange him plus cash for Downing) and Lallana this season. Last season he didn't look up to Premier League standard, now he is arguably one of the best players in the whole of the league. My point being is that yes Osvaldo has an attitude and some anger issues, but he needs time to settle and thus these issues are going to become exagerated. I understand if we do sell him, but if we don't surely united support for him at games can only aid the transition process.

Agree3 Disagree4

He gets a lot of slack for being a "very talented player who didn't settle"? Club paid a record fee for someone Poch knew with a reputation for being a nutter. That's like buying a used car for a top price after an AA inspector said it's been in a crash!

Southampton are also looking into Danny Hoesen of Ajax.
Saint Gibbs.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

Sorry it's not the high profile over priced kind of player that comes with a massive ego you are looking for but they are looking into him. doesn't mean we are signing him. from the players I have heard we are looking at I would think we don't have a huge budget for january and rightly so. we are safe we will finish top 10 there is no need to be rushing into rash transfer's and overpaying just to keep the fans happy. I would rather we did some sensible business maybe try find a cheap gem then strengthen in the summer.
SainT Gibbs.

Agree5 Disagree0

Solid player. Reminds me of Jay Rod. Would be happy if we signed him, though I'd rather we saved the money and used Gallagher/Seager/Barnes instead.

Sources within the club (Do not want to get them in trouble so will call them Agent Saint) say that Southampton are in talks with Club Deportivo Guadalajara over the signing of Carlos Fierro for 8m. Carlos is only 19 years old and is seen as a great fit in the Southampton way. Watch this space!

Believable6 Unbelievable4

19 years old, £8m and I've never heard of him, can't wait for someone to post that I know nothing.

Agree3 Disagree0

Great player, a real future star! If we were to sign him I would be very pleased. Pace and killer instinct, just what we need up top! Hope they sign him.

Swedish Saint

Agree6 Disagree0

No one new abput chicarito until utd signed him for 8 million. He turned out alright?!

Agree3 Disagree0

Sounds like the kind of player saints would be linked to. thanks for the info. although always sceptical when people say from a person ;) Saint Gibbs

Agree4 Disagree0

£15m then?

Agree0 Disagree2

Surely we would be better off buying someone a bit older and more experenced at this stage of the season.

Agree3 Disagree0

No one knew about MoPo before we signed him either! Total football lord!

Agree4 Disagree0

Yes I completely agree with you there 'Swedish Saint'. He has got a real bright future ahead of him. Just hope we don't miss out on him as we have done in the past. Kim Kalstrom, Martin Palermo, Wellington Silva. the list goes on and on!

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeh always the way. Even remember far back as us been rumoured to be signing Chris Sheehan for ages and then he got snapped up from under our noses and look how he ended up. Just hope Saints sign Fierro and this isn't another Sheehan instance

Agree4 Disagree0

Not Erik Torres?

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeh was so p*ssed off wth that Sheehan transfer. Then to rub salt into the wound we were let down when we found out about Dan Milczarek not signing as well

Agree3 Disagree0

Someone's been playing football manager again. Do we all think he has a great future because of FM, or because he ACTUALLY is a good player?

Agree3 Disagree0

And remember the side ways crab! What a great player he could of been.

Agree2 Disagree0

Oh yeh! Probably the best two footballing moments I always remember of the sideways crab were firstly when he smashed in that free kick in the cup and also when he got done by stumpy the one armed winger.

Agree1 Disagree0

FM legend, a whole bunch of nothing (so far) in real life. I think he has two career goals to date.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that he's a good player mostly by looking at a game or two with Guadalaraja, in which he scored once and made an assist in the other game. The fact that he is talented at FM just clarifys this ;)

Swedish Saint

Agree2 Disagree0

Great news! Hope we get him! Just also heard we may also be going for ganso so if we get him and fierro reckon Europe here we come.

Agree0 Disagree2

Remember when the crab pulled his shorts down and stuck his arse over the balcony in malia. Well reckon he would do the same again against any team he played against if saints signed him.

read that southampton maybe intested in vincent aboubakar from ligue 1 side lorient. cameroon international, 22 years old. 20 apps 11 goals this season.
saint gibbs.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Why would we go for him maybe if he was 17 but not 22. Come on we're trying to go for Europe within the next few seasons, we don't need him

Agree2 Disagree4

I don't know this guy from first sounds like just what we need a younger guy who scores goals

But then again that is in the ligue 1 which is definately far less superior to the prem

But it's worth a gamble maybe?

I would personally like to see saints sign danny ings

-Good goal scoring ability
-experienced in championship (not bpl)
-pacey
-from Winchester
He could be good

Saint Hodgy

Agree2 Disagree5

Because 22 is very young for a striker. we bought j-rod at 22! a goal every 2 games is a fair return for a striker, although these have been in ligue 1. he looks a bit rough round the edges but seems to get it in the back net. a fee of 3-4m is cheap aswell. its not something iv'e conjured up out of my head, if I was doing that I would be saying finboggason.

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't know much about him, but 11 goals in a top European league is better than anyone we've got. Granted Ligue 1 isn't the EPL, but if he's cheap it may be worth it.

Agree0 Disagree1

11 in 20 - yes, please!

Agree1 Disagree0

I was saying before osvaldo decided to bang out his team mate to sell him and buy danny ings and a cb. problem is can you see burnley lettign ings go in january with the posistion they're in?

Saints Gibbs

Agree0 Disagree1

Well Osvaldo being loaned to Juventus is now a headline on the tv website sports section so this looks as if it is true.

That does sort of leave Saints with Lambert [isn't scoring as many and does pick up injuries as he gets older], Rodriguez is still a work in progress [if he stopped 'passing the ball back to the goalie' with some his chances he'd have about 25 goals this season], and Gallagher seems to have a good future in the game but it's a lot responsibility to lump on an 18 year old's shoulders in the Premiership - 'start scoring us goals'!

So by my reckoning we are bit lightweight up front and a bit lightweight at the back. Nothing serious but all we need is for a few 'Sunderland-type-injuries' and we could be in a bit of trouble.

Any thoughts?

Agree3 Disagree0

We're going to be relegated!
No we're not, and we won't make the euro places either so calm down, calm down. I sound like a Liverpudlian now haha

Agree1 Disagree1

I swear most of you don't get football. Sam gallagher should be the main option. Bring in an awesome proven striker or nothing.

Agree3 Disagree1

We have suffered with injuries a lot this season, we have had many of our best players out for large periods of time and we have managed to hold on to 9th position with a clear divide between us and those below.

We have got decent depth, we could do with a goalscorer to actually help us in the final third because we do create the chances but finish about 1 in 10. It's hardly a disaster though right now and I can't see us not making any additions being a disaster.

The squad is good enough and with Vic, Lovren and Ramirez all coming back into the fold (Lovren seems to think he'll be back shortly anyway and Vic was on the bench for Arsenal) we should easily hold onto 9th.

Saint Phil

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you consider we don't have the budget for that? who do you suggest? incase you haven't heard there are very few good strikers about or available.
Saint Gibbs

Agree0 Disagree0

What? Try re posting please because I'm confused x

Agree0 Disagree0

Calm down everyone. I only asked for opinions.

Also I said Gallagher has a fine future but unless he is absolutely sensational it's a lot of responsibility for an 18 year old to shoulder. It's not the same as playing left back because for the majority of supporters if you are playing up front and not scoring, then you're not doing your job!

Remember what you were like when you were 18, I know what I was like!

It remains a fact that our squad currently is a bit small. The same people saying it will be okay will be the same people moaning if Saints lose three or four winnable games on the trot. Remember what The Don said, 'I don't react after we've lost five games I react before losing five games'.

PPPPP - never a truer acronym!

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe didn't make myself clear enough, a striker would help if we can find one who can convert more chances than we currently achieve, but I do not think it will be a major problem if we go without signing anyone right now as the squad we have available has plenty of options and the strikers we have do get goals just not as many as we may like.

I know it is not easy to find good goal scorers within a budget, we don't necessarily need to find one either, but I think getting a new striker in who can put the ball in the back of the net should be our top priority for signings right now.

Hope that made more sense.

Saint Phil

Agree0 Disagree0

Well my opinion is that three strikers is not enough for the rest of the season. If Osvaldo has stayed and with Gallagher being promoted to first team duties that would have been enough.

Just like three centre backs is also skating on thin ice. Particularly as Jos really doesn't seem up to the job anymore.

Only my opinion - no panic, no disaster or doom and gloom, just an honest opinion.

regarding poch's interview were he said there will 'probablly' be a 'in' and an 'out' well with danny fox going out on loan is that the only out then?, and with whos coming in heard we are planning a late bid for astori which would be great but shorely our priority should be a striker and a good quality finisher any news on possible incomings at saints anything from eds or anybody?

Believable9 Unbelievable1

In the interview, Poch's translator said something along the lines of "the type of player we're looking for is a difficult one to find", read into that what you will!

Agree2 Disagree1

Is the type he is looking for a hardworking, committed to a cause, loyal, level headed, extremely talented, young, natural leader who will be willing to take low wages on a long term contract with a low transfer fee? Finding that player will be a very difficult one to achieve.

Agree7 Disagree0

Yes in other words no coming in as per!
He must be going to bring sam&matt or some other youth players in!if not the squad will be well short?

Agree4 Disagree4

I think if we get anybody it should e someone early or mid wentys who is a natural finisher simple just need to find one but hopeflly some buisness will be done tommorow in to saints finers crossed

Agree3 Disagree0

A player who I would love to see would be 24 year old Alfred Finnbogason - SC Heerenveen. works hard, knows where the goal is. He would be a gamble but one I think would pay off.

Agree5 Disagree1

Astori would be great but we still need a proven goal scorer in European competition

Agree4 Disagree0

Keep our youth we will be one hell of a force in 2/3 seasons time great news fox has gone and Matt taggart will now get his chance with the first team he is quality

Agree7 Disagree0

Any thoughts on vincent aboubakar? apparently some interest from us. he's young and scoring. he looks very rough but somehow gets the ball in the net.

Agree1 Disagree1

Rough? Danny Osvaldo isn't exactly clean shaven

Agree0 Disagree0

Rough around the edges. doesn't look picture-esque on the ball. almost clumsy. sorry should have been clearer. I think he is well worth a shot @4m.

Saints set to sign a left back and a striker on loan. Dani Osvaldo due to hold talks in Turin this afternoon.

Believable8 Unbelievable8

Where's the proof?
One day left and still no news? same oh same oh!
With Southampton!
Squeaky bum time? And not fox's biggest fan but he's better than no one!
If no one comes in will leave us well short?

Agree8 Disagree3

Matty Targett will be back up, supposed to be similar standard to Shaw but less experience

Agree7 Disagree3

Clyne has always looked decent enough when he covers left back.

Foreign press are reporting that we will make a late bid for Astori. Forest are reportedly interested in Fox to assist with their promotion bid. Juventus are in talks over Osvaldo.

mssaint

Believable10 Unbelievable3

I've read today that Spurs have entered the fray for Osvaldo. There is a link on Newsnow with a quote from his agent.

Agree3 Disagree6

Ever since we signed Lovren back in the summer, it always felt like a good thing that we didn't get Astori. For starters he's older than both Yoshida and Lovren, and likewise has had fewer starts internationally than both of them. I'd preferably like to see us bring in another player who is already as established as they are. But also I think Fonte is doing enough to firmly keep his position for the rest of the season, so really a centre back replacement could wait until the summer. Let's just get a striker in for the time being and if Fox is off then some left back cover on loan will do.

Agree6 Disagree7

We have tried to get Astori for so long now, so maybe but I doubt it.

I think we are looking at a striker but even then we have to off load Ozvaldo first or we wil stay as we are.

Agree4 Disagree2

Lovren is excellent and Fonte is adequate for the moment. The other two centre backs are not good enough for this level.

We really need cover at left back as well as Shaw would benefit from an experienced player to learn from.

Agree5 Disagree3

Any striker news ed?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - no, but do you know of any interest from Saints in Liverpool left back Jack Robinson? He went back to Liverpool for treatment on a knock, there has been some rumours he was recalled and I was told Southampton contacted Liverpool about buying a player yesterday but haven't been able to find out who. Just putting 2+2 together and probably coming up with 85, but no point me sitting on the info any longer as I haven't a clue who else it could be at Liverpool that Southampton would want!}

Have it on good authority that Osvaldo is going nowhere & expect a public apology anytime soon. I've been informed that this matter was resolved a few days back but has not been released so it didn't disrupt preparations for the Arsenal game.

Agree4 Disagree8

"I've read today that Spurs have entered the fray for Osvaldo. There is a link on Newsnow with a quote from his agent. "

Is this so he can punch Lamela again?

Agree4 Disagree4

^ I don't think an exprienced LB would come to us, as they'd have to be prepared to play second fiddle to Luke. I say send Matt Targett out on a months loan for first team action. then use him as back-up upon return (in the meantime use Clyne as cover).

Agree6 Disagree2

Astori off to Mancini & Galatasaray

Agree2 Disagree5

Expect 2 new players to sign. Loan deals

Agree1 Disagree5

Hi Ed, I suppose it's possible, especially if the rumours of Shaw going out in the summer are true - despite what Saints have said regarding him staying. A bid of £30m+ would be hard to turn down, especially if the player himself has decided it's time to move.

That would leave us with two young left backs in Robinson and Targett.

On a personal note, I believe that Shaw should stay for at least one more full season to aid his development, but no doubt Chelsea and United are replacing their long term LB's this summer, which means they'll push harder than ever to sign Shaw. With rumours of Man City, and Real Madrid now interested, it's going to be harder than ever to retain Shaw.

Agree1 Disagree1

Southampton inquiring about a Liverpool player Ed? I wouldn't see any reason for us going for Robinson. I mean yeah we've loaned out Fox but we have cover in the form of Targett. I would have suspected an interest in one of Liverpools many attacking midfield options could be likely?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - like who? The only other possibilities, that I can think of, would be either Borini or Aspas. Maybe Suso, but I would cry if we let him go!!!}

Borini could be a very good fit for us. He was excellent for Sunderland at Old Trafford last week. Puts the miles in and has ability too.

Agree1 Disagree1

I don't really know who of the attacking options we'd go for Ed, but it's not as if you can't afford the let one go. Liverpool are swimming in attacking options right now and I could see us bidding to take someone to boost our attack who can actually finish regularly. If we sign anyone I'd expect an attacking player who can get us some more goals now.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually Liverpool are quite short in that area mate, that is why they are trying to sign one.}

Aspas would be a good signing, even if it's a loan. Has not been given much chance this season in his favoured central position because of the form of Suarez and Sturridge. Could be a good move all round.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is very lightweight but he has a great workrate.}

Are they that short Ed? I thought they had a lot. Sorry I must have gotten it wrong. (Guess this season the way Liverpool have played it's looked like they've had a world of options). Still I am unsure of if we would be looking at any defenders from you, we have got enough at the back right now.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - apart from Aspas, the bench is similar in age to yours, there is not a lot in the way of options. It is just lucky that the first choice ones have played so well. I just assumed it might be a left back, as Fox went out on loan and Shaw seems to pick up quite a few injuries. I know Targett looks like a great prospect, but it just seemed to be the likeliest possibility, well before I thought of Aspas. I wouldn't be surprised if it was him, he was very highly rated in Spain, Chelsea were interested in the summer too. It wouldn't be a surprise if Pochetinno knew of him, and he is very much the right player for a high pressing game, he never stops chasing.}

30 Jan 2014 08:51:15
There are various clubs in the premier league after the signature of Tom Ince

Do you think saints should make a move in the last couple of days of the window?

Also do you have anymore rumours on Southampton

Saint Hodgy

Believable6 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - Southampton has not shown any interest in Ince.}

No thanks to Ince vastly over rated
And his old man follows him around like baggage, us he probably wouldn't get much chance because is he any better than our existing youngsters?

Agree4 Disagree1

A good player but I don't think he would be right for Saints, I just don't think he would fit in with what we've got going here.

Agree3 Disagree0

This isn't a rumour, Ed was just seeing people's opinions on him

But do you have any our rumours on saints ed?

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Osvaldo will leave on loan to Juve. Shaw will stay until the summer at least.}

Just gone to palace
