Well that's it untill Jan. We tried to bring in a wide left player today but looks like it fell through. My understanding is that we only have one player that we are looking at and he will be a loan.
We will have to bring through some very talented youth players and hope they step up.

Believable5 Unbelievable34

Well thanks for that piece of news. I shall not expect any further news about Saints transfers until Jan even though theis deadline is still open for 5 weeks?
Also thanks for the tip on the loan move - not something NC normally does but its a relief to know that your well informed enough to tell us he's going to change his stance on loan players.
All in all its the end for Saints then - ah well - come back Rupetrt all is forgiven

Andy Saint

Agree21 Disagree4

I take it your best pal is NC then to post this?

Agree13 Disagree1

Last time I checked there was still a month left of the transfer window. And since when did we start signing players on loan?

Agree10 Disagree2

I always thought we were after a striker. How to do know what we're doing in the transfer market? Who's telling you this?

Lenny

Agree11 Disagree0

NC doesn't do loans - so for me this rumour has no credibility.

Agree8 Disagree6

Clearly made up!
Even if cortese and Poch have said they don't want to sign anymore, which they haven't.
Let's say lambert and jayrod get injured in pre season and games up too august 31st.
Do you really think the staff will go "oh well, let's hope mayuka can play 90 mins constantly until they recover".
IMO, like gaston, wouldn't be surprised if damiao or banega were waiting til the end of the transfer window to weigh up their options.

Agree10 Disagree1

Because it makes perfect sense to just give up on the transfer window with over a month of it left.

Agree8 Disagree1

Glad you think so. Only another 4. 5 weeks left of the window. Makes perfect sense for us to give up signing anyone before the end of July

Agree7 Disagree0

You know there is over a month left in the transfer window right?

And out youth are talented as always and already making the step up.

Agree7 Disagree1

I can smell a jealous fish lurking. swim away good lad

Agree15 Disagree2

Saints will announce one or two more signings when they arrive back in England I hope banega one of them doubt Damiao

Agree7 Disagree6

Southampton do, do loans. Antonio, dale, falque. Just to name a few all in the cortese era.

Agree9 Disagree5

All loans to Suthampton are with views to permanent deals though. Those who are flops just get shunted away again.

Agree2 Disagree3

And what division were we in when we took loans?

Agree4 Disagree3

Doesn't matter what division we were in when we had our last loans top and bottom of it is NC has had loans before so to say he doesn't is wrong info if a loan pops up and NC thinks he will improve the squad he will do it

Agree7 Disagree3

This attitude to "we don't do loans" has always made me laugh. Has Nicola come out and said so? Did I miss it? We've had players on loan previously. Did they not count?

Look, let's be sensible for a second. Do you really think that Nicola Cortese will ignore the option to bring in a player if it benefits the club? Nicola will utilise every tool in the book if it helps bring in a player we want. If he can get a player in on loan with an option to buy, I really can't see him turning it down, as potentially it removes any risk from the deal.

So, do we still not do loans? sheesh!

Agree3 Disagree5

Transfer window closes on 2nd Sept so got plenty of time to sign other players!

Agree4 Disagree1

Except there's still another month till it ends? And as far as youth players go Isgrove and Chambers look really decent from what i've seen so far. I reckon they'll both do a job in the first team next season.

Agree6 Disagree0

Ok, so we wouldn't take scott sinclair on loan from man city? I think we would some how

Agree5 Disagree2

What about Papa Waigo NDiaye. What a beast he was! lol

Agree10 Disagree1

Why would we take Sinclair on loan? He is no better than we have, so what would that say to our lads in the academy?
Yes, we might do a loan, but only see that being a possibility if, and when, there are some gaps within the squad from injuries/suspensions-so more likely to happen in the January window.

Saint Martin

Agree5 Disagree2

Cas our last loan Falque went so well!

Agree4 Disagree0

Antonio wasnt a flop was he? In league 1 we brought some good players in on loan like papa waigo, and antonio.

Agree5 Disagree3

^yeah, our first season after the takeover, when we had half a squad we loaned players, I don't see us doing so now that we do have a decent squad

Agree4 Disagree0

Ever Banega still 5/6 to join Saints on .

Agree2 Disagree1

Jos, Antonio, N'daiye to name a few. All have done great jobs for us.

Agree0 Disagree3

Add Cork and Chaplow to that list.

Agree1 Disagree2

If the management want to loan players they will do so. If they don't want to loan players then they won't. And that my friends is that! end of.

Agree5 Disagree0

Papa waigo, cork, guly, hoover, chaplow, antonio all joined on loan with a view to a permanent move. Some did some didn't, but we DO loans if its the right player.

Agree2 Disagree3

The ones who were good though were all here with clauses to make the deals permanent. Those we didn't really want we're basically trialists on a long term basis.

Agree3 Disagree1

We got these loans in when the new regime had just taken over and two I believe were outside the transfer window. Different ball game for Saints now that the Leibherrs are totally committed.

Agree3 Disagree0

You're basing the "we don't do loans" philosophy on one season in the premiership, as in last season. Based on that philosophy we also don't do Czech centre backs or top half finishes. Surely we will sign a loan player if it fits the progression of the club. Ie if we want to see how the player beds in and performs before we decide if he should be a permanent player or not.

Agree2 Disagree2

Steven caulker to cardiff. £8m. let's hope lovren is better! Feel we missed out ther. 21, english, bright talent. Better than hooiveld anyway!

Agree6 Disagree4

The way I understand it is that Saints will only take on loan players if there is a right to buy included as part of the deal.
We took Antonio in on loan made him a player and then couldn't buy him at the end, and so our policy changed to include a buy clause in future.

Saints going to make a big signing today, inside info tells me it will be lunchtime. All stadium tours have been cancelled and the shop is closing for 2 hours. watch this space!

Believable3 Unbelievable23

They did send out a tweet this morning saying to keep an eye on the YouTube chanel today so there may be something in this!

Agree2 Disagree8

Like to be proved wrong, but going on past predictions, I suggest not.

Agree7 Disagree0

YouTube watch was for feature length preseason video I think.

Jannersaint

Agree9 Disagree0

That's because there is an hour long pre season uncovered video uploaded to YouTube today. No signing involved.

Agree9 Disagree0

What time do you have lunch? Only it's 3. 30 and I'm starving?

Agree11 Disagree0

The web site today have launched (on the you tube channel) an hour long pre season video. I think this is what you were referring to. I don't know why the shop has closed for 2 hours. Maybe it was being cleaned because a customer was sick in there. Maybe from looking at the new home shirt

Agree7 Disagree5

I bet it is just the shop being closed and I bet it is just due to the away kit being released and set up in the shop

Saint IQ

Agree5 Disagree2

Maybe they are releasing the away kit for sale and putting it out in shop

Agree5 Disagree2

Or maybe they are keeping it quiet till the last minute, so that the Echo can't release it in their late press!

Agree3 Disagree1

Saints fans should wear old red and white stripe kits in protest of new kit being NAFF!

Agree5 Disagree5

Your inside info is useless mate maybe you should stop yanking peoples chains.

Agree4 Disagree0

Or maybe 2 + 2 = 6. Less Jackanory and a bit more substance please.

Agree6 Disagree0

Stadium tours have been cancelled as they are testing Hawkeye today.

Barca Saint

Agree6 Disagree0

Apparently it is because they are testing goal-line technology out at St Mary's again.

Agree3 Disagree1

Nothing to do with a signing. It was for goal line tech work

Agree3 Disagree1

To be fair the home kit isn't that bad compared to liverpools 2nd and 3rd kits this year, chelsea's high vis away kit a couple of seasons ago.
The only thing I dislike is the lack of stripes!
I wouldn't say it was hideous!
And correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we get rid of the stripes between 1980-89.
Personally the 125 anniversary kit is one of my favourites!

Agree8 Disagree2

^the home kit would be one of the best if everything gold on it was white, still a nice kit but I think the gold takes away from it

Agree3 Disagree3

Surely the gold on the shirt should have been saved for if and when we actually get some trophies though?

This week, saints are going to re-bid for Ever Banega according to many newspapers, english websites and spanish websites. We put our interest for Ever Banega on hold while we were trying to sign Victor Wanyama. Now that we have signed Wanyama, Saints are going to put in a bid (around €10 million) to now sign Banega. Also, Banega is an attacking midfielder and not a defensive one so don't get confused and start to think that wanyama and banega will play a similar position because they won't. What do you guys think about this? Would it be a good signing or do you think we should spend elsewhere on another position?

Believable6 Unbelievable3

I wonder if interest has been re-enlivened due to a concern that Ramirez might be on the way out?

Agree0 Disagree10

Think we're covered pretty well in midfield, quite like to see another striker to work with Rickie, take some of the pressure from him, also, and I know it's only my personal view, i'd like to see another top class centre-back brought in. Think we might need a bit more in defence.

Agree6 Disagree1

I dunno if its good or bad as gaston has got great potential but needs as much time as he can get on the pitch and if we signed banega he'd probably go on th eright and I think jay rod can play there or pucncheon or now lookin at pre season isgrove so i'd athe not have ehim as cam wise were ok but damaio I thinks our priority atm

Agree2 Disagree1

We have got a very good midfield at the moment, but why not add more quality? Ever Banega will provide another way through, but is he our top priority? I personally wouldn't have thought so. We could do with another 15-20 goal striker, with Rickies and Jay Rods goals, and Mayuka will come good I think. We also need cover or someone to compete with the fullbacks, I wouldn't mind Kyle Naughton from Spurs.

Agree3 Disagree1

I think it's clear from the Pre-Season tours of both Spain and Austria that some (not all!) fringe players are going to get their chance to impress. IMO Saints are trying to build an attacking unit that is fluid (like Barcelona), and maybe players won't be held to playing one postion so you may see the likes of Mayuka given a chance - Rickie does need help, but if you change things around you want something different during a game - I reckon you'll see Mayuka, Jay Rod, Guly and potentially one other to be signed competing upfront. (Imagine the attacking options of Lambert, Puncheon, Ramirez, Jay Rod, Mayuka, Guly, Lallana plus all the exciting youth coming through!)

Agree5 Disagree1

He would be a great signing, though I am not sure he is willing to come. He seems very attached to Valencia based on his tweets.
Don't really see what keeping hold of Ramirez has to do with trying to sign Banega.
We are desperately short of creativity to set up our strikers and only have Gaston to fill that box, so we we need both of them. Our other players hold on to the ball for too long and only Rickie seems to be effective at linking up play, when would rather he was in the box. Lallana and Punch are far too wasteful.
Our shots to goals ratio is embarrassing and that is no doubt heavily linked to the quality of the chances that we are creating.
And as for buying more defenders, maybe we could do with more cover, but that is hardly a priority. We're not Stoke or West Ham.

Agree5 Disagree1

To my mind, there are a lot of ifs and buts when it comes to Ever Banega. He seems a great player, who could be commanding a higher fee; probably something like £16m. Why do we think we can get him, according to reports, for £10m? Why aren't the CL clubs after him? He's had disciplinary problems in the past. I wonder whether they persist. Maybe that's it. Maybe it's Valencia's ongoing financial quagmire.

It looks like they'll get near enough £26m for Soldado from Spurs. Do they need to offload another of their best players on the cheap? If Valencia try to replace him, as has been said this morning, with Javier Hernandez from United, I guess for approx £20m, maybe they do.

Honestly, I hope we do get him. I think it's worth the risk. If it doesn't work out, I can't see his value depreciating dramatically over the next couple of seasons.

I agree with a lot of people that we need another classy striker to challenge SRL and the youngens, but I don't see why we couldn't afford both a new AM in Banega and a goal scorer. Zenit are still odds on to get Damiao if he does leave Internacional, so don't hold your breath.

Agree1 Disagree1

To the original post.

Are you saying we can only work on one signing at a time! I somehow doubt we are that inefficient.

Jannersaint

Agree2 Disagree0

Valencia had a new manager last year, and apparently wasn't impressed with banegas antics off the field, attracting bad media coverage. A report in feb said the new manager wanted to sell him in the summer (now). So even if he wanted to stay, Valencia might get rid anyway. Based on that I'm surprised cortese and co are interested
Saintsmiff

Agree0 Disagree0

How can people say we don't need someone like Banega? One of our biggest problems was service to the forwards. Too often we outplayed in the midfield then tried to walk it in. We have service, we will get goals. Puncheon and lallana are not going to be the ones for that consistently enough

Agree3 Disagree0

Ever Banega 5/6 to join Saints on .
So clearly the bookies think that the chances are it will happen!

Anyone got any new rumors?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

If they had then pretty sure they would have posted them.

Or maybe they were waiting for someone to ask?
