Saints set to offer fee to Melbourne Victory in oz for young exciting winger Marco Rojas. Rojas who is a kiwi has been attracting interest from Europe.

Believable11 Unbelievable15

He recently said that he would see out the season in the A-League before looking to move to a European Club

Agree8 Disagree2

I'm from New Zealand. He is a very exciting prospect he is know as the Kiwi Messi but I'm not sure he is PL quality. Even though I love the player and would love to see him make it in the PL

Agree7 Disagree2

I'd love to see him at Saints. He's not good enough to be a starting XI player yet but next season I could see him fitting right in. He's quick, a great dribbler, has a great left foot, scores goals, is a good crosser and is only 17. Definitely a worthwhile signing in my opinion.

Aussie Saint

Agree8 Disagree4

Not worth signing until the Summer at the earliest. We need to deal with the immediate term now. Get in those few players we really need.

Agree6 Disagree1

Marco Rojas is not 17 mate, he's 21.

He looks decent in the A-league but he's not world class. We could do better looking elsewhere - too much of a risk.

Agree2 Disagree3

Really? My mistake. I thought he was a lot younger than that. Perhaps I'll retract my previous comment in that case.

Aussie Saint

Agree3 Disagree4

Haha. Is Australian football that important to you Aussie Saint?

Agree3 Disagree3

Haha, of course! I am Australian and living in Australia after all! I would prefer if we signed an Aussie rather than a Kiwi though.

Speaking of, any news as to whether we're still scouting Rhys Williams now that he's back from injury? And Mitch Langerak, an Aussie GK at Borussia Dortmund, would be a better bet than Butland in my opinion. But that's enough plugging from me.

Aussie Saint

Agree2 Disagree4

I wouldn't mind seeing an 'All Black' in the centre of our defence. Although, maybe not in our penalty area!
SaintGazza

Agree3 Disagree1

Marco Rojas don't want to leave so back of our best player.

Adkins has just recently told Sly that he will NOT be looking to bring in a keeper this month. Therefore no deal for Butland or ter Stegen, as rumoured previously.
But he has said that he would like to see a couple of new faces come in as he believes the squad does need to improve in order to ensure PL survival. Astori is the man being most heavily linked, with a bid of around the £8.5million mark being reported (Cagliari are asking for 10million euros, so we are not too far off at all!).
And of course Adkins has reiterated yet again that Luke Shaw will definitely be remaining with us.

Believable13 Unbelievable6

A proper post well done mate

Agree6 Disagree11

I dont think so i believe that the Butland deal could be pulled off soon there are signs for it everywhere
-Wilt Saint

Agree4 Disagree6

I have no idea whether this is true or not but we need a keeper more than a drowning man needs a life jacket.

Agree6 Disagree5

Wilt saint adkins has stated he wont be signing a new goalkeeper. Butland isnt that great everytime i've seen him play he looks dodgy n birmingham in the wrong half of the champ! gazza is the future boruc is the answer now he will come good again like the celtic days! COYR!

Agree4 Disagree4

In the summer Adkins denied we were goin for Yoshida and we still went for him. So maybe not the nail in the coffin for Butland deal. But personally think that Boruc will remain number 1 from now on.

Agree3 Disagree2

Adkins came straight out and said it won't happen. Therefore it won't. Well probably sign one in summer instead. My guess is that a CB (Astori) and an attacking midfielder (to provide cover for Lallana) will be our targets.

Aussie Saint

Agree3 Disagree3

In regards to purchasing a player like Butland (potentially a future full time England international goalkeeper, Ala Hart) you wait to see what the other teams offer before getting involved in the bidding process, even Man Utd rule out bids for players in January only to sign them unexpectedly. Personally would prefer Saints to sign an experienced goalkeeper and let Kelvin go out on loan, not sure Boruc is up to the job, Gazza in one for the future.

Thampton are ready to launch a £13million double bid to bolster their defence and keep their Premier League hopes alive.

The Saints are ready to offer £5m for Birmingham's young England keeper Jack Butland and £8m for Italy centre-half Davide Astori.

They were the first club to move for the 19-year-old Birmingham shot-stopper last summer before his career took off with an Olympic Team GB call-up and a full England cap.

Now Saints supremo Nicola Cortese is returning and will offer the cash-strapped Blues money to keep them going - and a first-team slot for Butland.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins has been juggling with three keepers all season and has yet to find the right man, so Butland would be perfect for him.

Southampton have also bid £8m for Cagliari defender Davide Astori, 25, but face competition from Napoli and Juventus.

Adkins is worried that defensive frailties might undermine his team's first season in the Premier League after conceding 37 goals in 19 matches.

Butland is poor in goal. How many times. Gazzaniga is better. Think we should look elsewhere.

Agree14 Disagree12

Gazaniga is better than Butland

Agree11 Disagree9

Garza may be better than butland but he's not good enough. We desperately need a keeper. Will be the difference between survival and relegation.

Agree3 Disagree8

I think that Shay Given would be the answer

Agree4 Disagree9

Gazza going home to racing club on loan for the rest of the season

Agree2 Disagree7

I am not certain that a 19 year old (albeit a tremendous prospect) with no premier league experience is going to be the answer to our goalkeeping problems, especially when faced with a relegation dog fight. Friedel/Given on loan until the end of the season and then hand the reins over to Gazza.

Agree8 Disagree4

I think signing a prem proven keeper with two good seasons left in him is a safe bet then let gaza take over simple but effective

Agree0 Disagree0

Have not seen butland this year, but did last year.looks the best young keeper in years.saints should buy him now

Agree0 Disagree1

Butland is definitely better than gazzaniga he's a big presence who commands his box, and is a fantastic shot stopper, (all things that gazzaniga isn't, he's a liability, would love but land at saints, top player

Just backing up the Butland deal chalkie has put earlier, i have also heard that BCFC have to tomorrow to agree to saints asking price or we will move for Mario Felgueiras

Believable2 Unbelievable7

Adkins just said in presser he is not signing a gk this month but looking to bring in a few players for the future

Agree3 Disagree2

Adkins just said that they are not planning on bringing in a keeper.

Agree4 Disagree1

Thats funny... as Adkins dont want another keeper and good on him.

Agree2 Disagree2

Nonsense.

Adkins has publically said he won't be investing in a new keeper in January.

Move on.

JJSaint

Agree3 Disagree2

The most recent southampton post on TV has quoted Adkins saying there won't be a new keeper in this window, or do you think this is just talk?

Agree2 Disagree1

Adkins also said we weren't going to get Yoshida; Two days later we signed him. Could be mind-games or a strategy.

Agree2 Disagree3

NA did say this, not that i believe this will happen but remember NA said we definitely would not be signing maya yoshida... then 2 days later?!

Agree2 Disagree3

Then someone needs to show him that Davis and boruc are crap and gazzaniga isn't ready yet

Agree3 Disagree3

When did NA say we weren't buying Yoshida? I don't remember that.

Agree4 Disagree4

How can peeps agree/disagree with the above poster's memory lol. I'd forgotten about it but THINK it was in the tunnel at end of the City game. It certainly wasn't at a pre-arranged press conference and i THINK Adkins was irritated with being asked at that particular time.

Hearing from a BCFC source that SFC (NC) has given them until tomorrow to take the offer (said to be 5m straight payment) or SFC will go else where

I was also told that Davis / Gazza will go on loan to BCFC

Chalkie

Believable3 Unbelievable8

I hope we do go elsewhere for a goalkeeper. Butland is worse than Gazzaniga.

Agree2 Disagree6

Honestly i would prefer just to have Gazza instead a Butland he is young an not experienced just like Gazza

Agree2 Disagree3

Danny Simpson as cover for right back

Agree0 Disagree5

After corks brilliant display against the arsenal, we have adequate cover! as for a keeper, butland is no more ready for the PL than gazza

Agree4 Disagree2

Yes he is he has played for England and went to the euros over Ben foster and lots of other good keepers

Agree2 Disagree3

Just because butland went to euros does NOT mean he is ready for the PL look where birmingham r in the champonship at the mo. WHY is everyone goin on about keepers its CB we need anyway

In other non-Hooper related news, Napoli reportedly just put a bid of £6million (in euros) in for Astori. Assuming the earlier reports of our £8million bid are correct, we should hopefully be front runners. Would love to see him sign in time for the Villa match.

As for Dawson, not going to happen. He's playing regularly for them now and is wearing the captain's armband. Cannot see him leaving.

Aussie Saint

Believable6 Unbelievable3

These days that's about 7 million euro's they offered then. Not sure if that makes us front runners theirs plenty of other interest.

Agree0 Disagree2

I heard the same, but we havnt yet placed a bid. but yeah i hope we pull this one off

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm surprised no one has gone for Mathews of Celtic, a young fb but will be a player to watch, could get him for a reasonable price now, and make a killing in the future, he's Welsh by the way, Hooper is going nowhere only to play at Juve.

Agree0 Disagree3

8million pound is about 9.5million euros so not that far off the 10 there asking for
