IF MoPo doesn't think Boruc can/will cut out the silly mistakes then he should go for a replacement. Iker Casillas on loan would be fantastic.
We do need a new CB because if Lovren gets injured we do not have good enough back up. Jos Hooiveld is not premiership quality and neither is Maya Yoshida (though he does have potential). Fonte and Lovren have formed a solid partnership but without Lovren Fonte is not strong enough, Lovren is the leader and organiser in the back line. I like the look of Yaroslav Rakitsky from Shakhtar Donetsk.
I think Osvaldo will be fine in the long run but he's not set the world alight so far. If there are any concerns from within the club I would love us to sign Giuseppe Rossi. but more realistically I think Shane Long would be a great and cheap (ish) signing.
Finally, this lot need to go, raising about £6m: Tadanari Lee, Jos Hooiveld, Danny Fox, Billy Sharp, Guly Do Prado & Lee Barnard.
Believable11
Unbelievable9
Phaha do you really think Iker Casillas one of the best keepers in the world would come to us? We'd have more chance of getting Rossi but to be fair you did say that would be unrealistic. Also I think our current first team reflects that our best signings have been young hungry English players, with the exception of Lovren, although I'm waiting for the others to prove me wrong
Agree9
Disagree2
I don't think we'd get anywhere near 6 mil. I think we'd be lucky to get half that. You're also forgetting the likes of Forte.
Agree7
Disagree1
Yeah, the above post is right.6 mil for those players is mad money!
Agree4
Disagree0
Id like to see us loan cesar until the summer then go for forster maybe boruc other way wiv his love for celtic. wot about lescott on loan or permanent yeah he's not young but bags of experience! and also defoe would be a great addition he's also getting on but what a finisher just wot we need. I no its not as ambitious as sum of the casillas rossi rumours but o generally think these players would improve us. saint woots
Agree7
Disagree2
Why not go after Alex McCarthy (GK) from Reading, he's been in outstanding form. Fits "The Southampton Way", buying young talented players from the UK.
I agree with the first post, Shane Long would be great (Or Danny Ings ¿How much does he cost?)
About the CB, the problem is getting a good player willing to rotate as Lovren and Fonte are very solid.

Agree3

Agree in maybe pursuing Shane Long, would be a great fit into Poch's / our game plan.
Boruc has at least 2 or 3 yrs at this level, so a 'keeper is not top priority - another Top CB and decent back up to Shaw is a must though.
COYR's!

Rumors are Lallana wants to leave as he's not getting enough game time. Thoughts?

Yann Sommer - Basel - £4.5m
Believable0
Unbelievable1
He's not all that much better than Boruc, i'd rather see us go after Koval from Kiev, maybe even stick a cheeky bid in for Courtois
Agree4
Disagree6
Courtois! Yeah right. Someone's had a drink. Lol
Agree6
Disagree1
Chelsea will not sell Courtois! He will be a critical player for them in seasons to come. We will go for a keeper but we are not going to spend ridiculous amounts with stupid wages in order to bring in a keeper.
Agree1
Disagree0
Courtois was a joke but they are the type of players we should be looking to attract
Agree2

Boruc is hands down better than all of the above

Better than Courtois? Really? Really??

We should really go for first choice gk and centre back. Gk David ospina great keeper from Nice and def Carlos valdes both columbian and good mates. Gk 3.5 million def 1.5 million.
Believable4
Unbelievable7
We shouldn't, we should stick with a settled team and buy replacements in the summer when they have a pre season to bed in
Agree8
Disagree5
Yea stick with a settled team that's getting beat every week. no sense in bringing in better players
Agree5
Disagree4
Well don't be relying on Pablo Osvaldo he's just got banned for three games and fined £40,000.
Ricky, Jay and Adam better have their shooting boots on for the next three games.
We will eventually have a full squad to pick from at some time in the future - promise!
Agree6
Disagree1
It's hardly a settled team that's been on this run is it? 11 injuries over the last 9 games, playing basically a 2nd team most weeks
Agree3
Disagree1
If Boruc is close to return, what on earth is the rush for a GK? Yes, we will probably need to beef up that position but IMO that could easily wait until the summer.

a rumour I've heard is that Gaston won't be leaving, Pochettino values him as a key member of the squad after getting him back in the starting 11 and wants to tie him down to an extended contract to fend off interest from the Italian sides. What does everybody think of this is if it turns out to be true?
Believable13
Unbelievable2
He is showing signs of adjusting, just needs to get more used to simple football. It's all very well having great technical ability but you have to be able to find the easy ball sometimes as well. He could be a very valuable asset though.
Agree16
Disagree2
Honestly think we should sell him if someone comes in with a 10 mil offer. Had 3 good games for us in total maybey? i'd sell him
Agree5
Disagree9
If we needed to come up with 10m to sign a player we could as we have the finance to do so now, he's still young and has done ok in the last few games I think he has the potential to be one of our best players
Agree9
Disagree2
The main problem with Gaston is that he is too light weight. He gets pushed off the ball too easily. Yes obvious technical ability, but not right for the Premier League. Sell!
Agree8
Disagree8
He's had more than 3 good games, you just pick out the bad bits from his game and b*tch and whine about it until it's all you remember. He's been great in the last few games, and he's not even fully fit yet, we'll keep him and he'll be almost unplayable by the end of the season, sit and watch
Agree7
Disagree5
^ Unplayable by the end of the year?!
I think that's a bit of a long shot for Gaston. Once he sorts his head and gels into the team a bit more, he will be good. This will probably take a while considering the only player he is seen around with is Gazza. He needs to sort his confidence.
Agree3
Disagree3
He will be the uruguayan Kaka!
Agree1
Disagree3
For periods during the Everton game he was unplayable, once he has his fitness and confidence he'll be fantastic
Agree6
Disagree2
Icehorse Saint-are you talking about Gaston, or Coutinho?
I would like to see what Gaston can do when match fit, and with more confidence that would come from that. He could be a little bit special, and I don't see any reason to give up on him yet.
Saint Martin
Agree2
Disagree1
Don't sell Gaston please, hope he gets more chances, till he gets in the form he had at Bologna.
Agree3
Disagree1
Can you explain what you mean by simple football the sort that gaston has got to get used too?
And as for him being 'unplayable ' at Goodison are you referring to the fact that he has been warming the bench for the last 6 months or that he ran Everton ragged with his running, brilliant passing, and movement off the ball!
Goal keeping error gave him his goal hair looked in good condition again though.
Agree3
Disagree0
Simple football is just doing the basics, finding the simple pass, closing down players and allowing yourself to get physically involved. The aspects of the game not requiring heaps of technical ability. Being able to do clever tricks to beat players is all very well but in Gaston's case he does need to try it a bit less and use his team mates more as well as supporting his team mates more at the back (something he showed signs of doing in his recent appearances but he needs to track back more consistently in the matches).
Agree2
Disagree0
So our big money buy who has been with us a year needs to be told to play simple football, pass to team mates, run back and tackle, and get involved.
So, thank god that shaw, ward prowse and chambers at 18 have received and understood the need to be a team player
Come on, Gaston is an international player who will play at some point in this years world cup. More time to do the simple things, more time to get used to the prem, luis suarez his international colleague seems to have settled in ok and did not need time.

Ermm. Why has MP not been at training since the last game & why is jesus Perez taking all the training & press confrences?
Excuse me for possibly over reacting but after seeing what NC is capable of.
Believable2
Unbelievable8
MP has been at training but has been in limited involvement due to a suspected deal he and Cortese are trying to pull off. Perez has been taking control of the sessions and the press leading into the Burnley game as we don't care about the cup so he may as well.
Agree5
Disagree0
{Ed001's Note - just to point out, to calm the OP's nerves, Brendan Rodgers didn't do Liverpool's press conference either.}
Jesus Perez has done all of Saints Cup pressers.
. I know it's silly season, but try not to read too much into everything.
I'm guessing we'll have a few first teamers on the bench tomorrow. That also doesn't mean that they are on their way out.
Agree7
Disagree0
We're at it again - Jay Rodriguez says 'Southampton can realise European dream' on the tv website and Football Focus. What with whinging about referee's swearing at us and one win in the last nine [and probably getting knocked out of the FA Cup at home to Burnley - the club has made it clear they don't think the FA Cup is important] are they trying to make us the laughing stock of 2014?
The current squad, and even team, are clearly not good enough to qualify for Europe.
Agree4
Disagree15
'We're at it again'! I suggest you read up on what is being said and not just ranting about it. Where did JayRod state this season?!
Get a grip and back the team.
COYR!
Agree16

Our best 11 could compete with the best in the country, we have beaten Liverpool at Anfield with our first 11 and were unlucky to be held to a draw at Old Trafford. We need more depth to give options which I imagine will come in the summer. We could potentially be European challengers next season.
Agree10
Disagree2
Its a "project"! I have no doubt we will get into Europe at some point. Maybe not this season, maybe not next but I do believe the conviction of NC & the squad is there. Yes, we may well field a weakened side to Burnley & yes, its a potential loss however at this stage it appears we are using cup games as opportunities to field younger players to give them the all important experience.
Agree7
Disagree1
Any idea who the player is?
Agree1

Hello pompey person how is it going these days?
Agree3
Disagree2
One win in 9 yes, but those games have been whilst we have had 9 of the first team out at various times, 11 in total, only Lallana and J-Rod haven't had an injury over the last 9 games, playing the second team we'd struggle to beat Palace let alone games against City, Newcastle (who were top of the form table when we played), Everton (lost 2? games all season, will be top 4 easily), Arsenal, Chelsea (twice) the only game we we're expecting to get something out of was the villa game, stop moaning, were pretty much out of the woods now and we'll be back to our best soon
Agree5
Disagree0
He did that because it was during chelsea game for the non-starters. If the chelsea game hadn't been on, Poch would of been there
Agree3
Disagree0
Our pretty much second team managed to almost beat Sunderland, they aren't that bad considering they rarely play together. They do need to be strengthened if we are to mount a real European challenge though.

Not sure of the significance but whilst waiting at Southampton airport last night a 63 plate Bentley was brought next to me and then Osvaldo came to the car. He sparked up and then drove off. This was not at the main car park so my guess is he came in on a private jet. Any ideas?
Believable3
Unbelievable1
Did he have any bags?
Maybe he went on a shopping trip to Italy.
Or maybe you have sparked up on something

His Bentley wasn't at st Mary's today although 3 others were in the players car park. So maybe he was away again, probably having a crafty fag somewhere. As an aside nice collection of motors, mostly Mercs, range rovers and of course Bentleys.

Luke Shaw has told Southampton he does not want to leave St Mary's this month.
Executive chairman Nicola Cortese will reject all offers for the England U21 left back.

Mikey, mikey, mikey. What are we going to do with you?
How much clearer could the player and the club make it?
Luke has gone on record saying he doesn't want to go.
The club has stated that the player - all our young players are not for sale.
The club are financially secure, and have no need or want to cash in.
So, can you explain to me why Luke might go?
OK, If we were offered what? £35m+ then Cortese might consider it I suppose.
Either way it would take an exceptional offer to pry him away from Saints, and as good as he is, I just can't see it happening.

Saints accuse Clattenburg! Top referee investigated for 'insulting and abusing' Lallana. and they demand Premier League keep him OFF their fixtures!
Believable6
Unbelievable0
Took me a while to find this article, it sounds like Clattenburg should be removed from refereeing if the allegations are true. The whole idea of abusing a player and then being happy and jokey about denying a team a chance to get back into the match when you clearly know they deserve a penalty! Shocking!
Agree5
Disagree0
About time someone done something about referee's who can't do their job properly, I wonder if any of them know Sam Sodje on the off-chance?
Agree1
Disagree0
I think after watching the referees at st marys this season that the premier league is definatly fixed and the refs are on the take that's the only explanation
Agree1
Disagree1
After watching Crappenburg reffing against Arsenal some of his decisions appear to be suspect. He has a way of missing all big decisions
Agree1
Disagree0
I wouldn't be so general about Premiership refs. A lot of them are very good it's the minority which let the side down. The two who seem to be most happy to screw over a team are Clattenburg and Webb.
Agree2
Disagree0
In my opinion this doesn't help the club one bit.
Let's see how many bookings we get for dissent [by action or word] for the rest of the season and how many marginal decisions go against us.
Referee's are a close-knit bunch and they stick together.
Agree1
Disagree2
Webb is a joke, dunno why he´s rated so highly. Clattenburg, straight off top of head, rediculous decisons against Chelsea in favour of Man U couple years ago (when Mikel threatened to break his legs afterwards). Last season the penalty he awarded against us away to Norwich was a shocker. And last week the penalty he turned down for Lallana was a shocker too. 2 useless refs as far as I can see
Agree2
Disagree0
Didn't he run into trouble a couple of months ago for being racist to Obi Mikel Wan of Chelsea
Agree2
Disagree0
Did you hear what was supposed to be said that was so dreadful? Something along the lines of 'You've changed since you played for England'. Hardly enough to make a professional burst into tears.
I thought it was something really horrible and personal!
Agree1
Disagree0
An official complaint was lodged and the media has mis-speculated on what the incident actually was. So far as I can tell, the FA ruling is it is ok for an official to abuse a player, but not ok for the player or club to complain about it.
By the way Osvaldo coincidentally being found guilty and given a £40,000 fine with a 3 game ban immediately after their response to this smells fishy to me especially considering the Newcastle coach has only been fined £1, 250
Agree0
Disagree0
Well I did think that the quote did seem a bit innocuous. Any idea of the truth?
As for Osvaldo - on the day of the game he was not punished in any way but FOUR officials missed every bit of it. Good work 'officials team'. I wonder if they are investigating this, especially as most officials can't seem to spot players miles offside, obvious dirty fouls, obvious penalties and players striking each other - surely strict eyesight test must come in soon?
I'd like to think the huge fine had nothing to do with Saints complaining but it wouldn't surprise me. Isn't it about the same amount some FAs get fined after their supporters racially abuse players? Seems a bit steep to me but Saints did appeal and all FAs hate that. In local football if you appeal it is an utter waste of time, I have never heard an appeal winning in about 30 years of local football.
Football in general needs a new broom in my opinion, too many traditionalists holding the game back.
