I've heard rumours of a double bid from Cagliari for Nainngolan and Astori, does anyone know of any updates from these?

Believable8 Unbelievable2

We "know" that 2 x targets have been signed off by the transfer committee although rumour has it that we are only likely to get one of them. Judging by calgori presidents recent comments its unsurprising we are linked with these two. I hope something gets done rapido so we can build quality depth & push on for the rest of the season.

Agree6 Disagree2

I have a feeling Nianngolan is close to finalising an 18M euro deal to AC Milan

Agree5 Disagree2

Aren't ac milan in for keisuke honda, simular type of player to nainngolan

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They already have a deal for Honda.}

The reports have managed to get this completely wrong, we are signed off on deals to take in 2 players (well we are on our end anyway but are yet to confirm the deal) but neither of the current 2 we are in for are from Cagliari.

I would love a double bid after today for the Burnley pair ings and volkes. Both saints fans. I would suggest we offer with the required cash Senior Gaston who today against lower division opposition once again proved just what a waste of space he is for us.

Gaston my struggle to find a decent hairdresser in Burnley those of us who have been to turf moor to watch us will understand that this is true.

Second half left me I believing we need some decent experience at the back to go with our young defenders.

Agree13 Disagree14

Who are they then?

Agree9 Disagree2

I personally believe in the first half Gastón was one of the better players on the pitch.

Agree12 Disagree8

As we paid 11.5 million "for one of the better players on the pitch" against championship opposition that is the least we should expect do you not think

Agree12 Disagree1

After yesterdays game and watching Jos breathing through his rear-end and being skinned more than once I think, as great a bloke as he is and as great as he was in the Championship, surely that is his last game for Saints?

Apparently Maya has said in the Japanese press he wants to leave in January because he isn't getting game time and with the World Cup coming along you can hardly blame him, I heard he also so Cheung is off too and likewise, if they like playing football, you can't really blame them.

If this is true and presumably has been discussed at the club then centre-backs must be the priority but after Ricky got a knock yesterday it does also show how lightweight we are for experience up front.

Perhaps some business in this window might actually happen - who knows?

Agree11 Disagree0

Hearing ricky lambert wants to go to wet sham to double his money
if saints can get 8 000000 for him let him go and show a good profit

Agree3 Disagree12

Lambert should be aloud to play out his career here if he wishes wasn't for him we wouldn't be here now simple why would we want to replace our best striker with 100 plus goals in 5 seasons even if he is 31/32

Agree11 Disagree0

To the Gaston knockers - I made a point of watching Gaston constantly during the game - he worked hard to constantly get into space but was frequently bypassed by the player on the ball.

I found it frustrating to see someone working so hard, only to be ignored often for a sideways or backwards pass, or for someone under no pressure to give the ball away.

In all fairness though, he just got on with the game.

Why not leave your bias at the turnstiles and look with fresh eyes.

Agree14 Disagree4

Honda and naingollan similar?I Always thought Honda was a goal scoring attack mid and naingollan a defensive mid hard tackling type

Agree10 Disagree0

I can't see Ricky wanting to join the
shambles that big Sam is running, not
even for the money that is being quoted, hope SRL stays and gets on the plane to Brazil, great Saint.

Agree9 Disagree0

Nainngolan has progessively moved up the pitch during his career

Agree3 Disagree4

So gaston was bypassed by the player with the ball and sideways and backwards passes were made rather than giving the ball to him if my understanding is right.

The "knockers" knock because of what the do not see with him a year after his arrival at st marys. Adkins last buy as manager?

My hunch is with gaston and yes I am a knocker is that he did not want to come to saints or now he is here he is unhappy.

Note, he was withdrawn after 59 minutes on saturday and the official line was that after playing two games in a row he was worried about his hamstring. I was watching and I would go with the line that Burnley played at a higher tempo and gaston was a passenger in terms of digging in and winning the ball back. A tactical change was made in other words.

Agree5 Disagree1

I always wonder why people don't put their name to posts. Presumably because when their dodgy rumour doesn't come true they don't want the flack. Similarly, when they slate a new player, who later comes good, they don't want people to point out the error of their ways.

come on people - register. It takes two minutes, and then it automatically logs you on each time you visit the site.

At least then when someone like Wanyama, Gaston or Osvaldo proves to be a bad buy in the long run, you can sit there and tell me I was wrong.

Agree1 Disagree3

"So gaston was bypassed by the player with the ball and sideways and backwards passes were made rather than giving the ball to him if my understanding is right. "

He was great first half. Has worked hard since coming back and been one of the better players. He took a slight knock during the game and was forced to come off. would rather have him available for the league than a cup game.

Clearly know nothing about the game. going sideways and bypassing him. good one.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its time we stop buying players such as Lambert, Lovren, Clyne and Boruc and bring in some real talent. Gaston and Osvaldo have been head and shoulders this year and lallana has been shocking.

Nainggolan gone to roma

Agree0 Disagree0

Gaston R has been with us a year does this mean he is still a new player?

is there an official timescale somewhere where we can see how long it takes for a new player no longer to be classed as new player?

Chambers for example has come into this team this season and for an 18 year has at times been brilliant from the start, so does this mean he is no longer new because he puts in great a performance for his team?

Does a new player have to put in several good/great performances and then move into the not new category?

I would guess if the latter is how we measure new, then that is why the term is given to Gaston. So just so we do not forget Gaston is new player who we signed in january 2012.

Hi All, happy new year

Went to the chelsea game on new years & I have a group of season ticket holders/ members that I usually sit with. A few of the guys have various links to the club or know people who do. You might know some of them your selves.

Over the years, I've picked up various tit bts that have come off e. g. Poch coming in, parrdew leaving, osvaldo, gaston. The list goes on. To be honest some haven't come off. Eg. Freddy adu, ever banega, jack Rodwell. A bigger list goes on.

Any way, there was a massive buzz about us haveing all but agreed a £20+m double swoop from Calgari for Radje Nainggolan and Davide Astori.

I am aware that these are players we have looked at in the past but could be the missing peices of the puzzle.

MP has massive faith in JRod, Gallagher & Osvaldo so strikers are covered, and expect Targett. & Read to be heavily involved in the 2nd half of tge season.

I think a little extra creativity going forward. & Better cover at the back would see us have an even better 2nd half of the season.

Apparently Hoilveld & sharp are a cert to join reading in a deal that would see mcarthy come over to us and the be loaned back & Fox has already agreed a deal to Bolton.

Lets hope its true

Anyone know where Nainggolan plays for cagliari? I've heard he's a cdm so surprises me if he's on his way here with the likes of schneid, Vic and corky. Thanks for any info

Agree1 Disagree0

He's a DM but more of the Schneiderlin type that likes to go forward. Gets caught on the ball a lot and puts in some cynical tackles that get him booked too much but the good bits of his game far out weight the bad

Agree2 Disagree2

Yeah, he started more of a defensive midfielder but as his career as progressed he now plays like a banega type player. Attacking midfielder, bit like whete davis plays infront of big vic and morgan

Agree0 Disagree1

We are missing the link from midfield to ricky and dani up front not defensively so can't naiggolen coming in. a player with real pace to scare defenders would be great at times we move the ball quickly passing but don't run quickly with it. insigne from lazio would be nice lol

Agree1 Disagree3

Perhaps they didn't hear MP state that there had never been any interest in Astori!?
Yes, could be smoke and mirrors, but IMO the Astori story is typical of Italian football and agents trying to ramp up interest and value.

Saint Martin

Agree1 Disagree2

MP actually said that they chose lovren over astori! I think its quite obvious there has been interrest

Agree8 Disagree0

Because every manager tells the press and practically every other club in the world what players they're planning on buying, right? Don't believe anything until it's official

Agree2 Disagree1

Lorenzo Insigne plays for Napoli, not Lazio and he is a centre forward / striker.

Agree2 Disagree1

I'm not surprised by this at all. The Cagliary Chairman has put his best player up for sale, since large parts of their stadium are closed due to safety concerns, and they are struggling financially.

So they are both in the shop window, and we've been linked heavily with both players in the past.

Initially I've stated that I didn't really see us bringing in anyone, but I can see us doing a deal for one or both players.
If they are long-term targets for Saints, then they either move for them now, or risk loosing them to other teams.
