Southampton interested in Man Utd striker Javier Hernandez for a fee of £18m rising to £20m

Not sure they would let him go esp. if chelski get roonski (c wot I did there)

Would love this to be true. class striker not a bad price tag but if man utd loose Rooney this is a non starter

I doubt it very much.

Would be fantastic signing if true!

Hopefully rooney will go to chelsea then we can take lukaku on loan for the season

Hernades is very good, but not worth £20m. He's a clever finisher, that's all. Plus, who would be touted for Real Madrid whilst at Man United and play for a club not in the Champions League? Keep it real.

^ buy* not loan buy.

Seems like he has a good attitude which would fit well with us. For that money we would want 20+ goals per season from him but he is accustomed to the premier league so would hit the ground running.

I think this is us grasping at straws. It's come straight out of the blue and I can find no evidence of it anywhere. If he was looking to go to another team, surely he would go to another champions league team rather than come to us and take a massive drop in wages.
Can't see this at all

It would be an amazing signing, but I very much doubt it.

I can't wait till this transfer window closes, because were after every tom dick and harry. mp only mentioned 3-4 names we were after. and since then I've heard about 20 names mentioned. its becoming a joke and guess what Fridays nearly here and were be signing big star just like the last 3 Fridays.

We've missed the boat with all these 'rumours' - as usual!
I see a struggling season again!

These rumours get worse. Who next? Rooney? He's looking for a new club!

^^ 'Fridays nearly here'? Very optimistic thing to say on a Tuesday.

Javier Hernandez? Do me a favour! Lol.
I will eat my flatcap if this happens.
Just because this happens on championship manager it doesn't mean it will happen in real life, kid. Now run along and do some homework or something.

Can even get him in Football manager trust, this is a kid who got him on fifa or something posting this

I've heard on good authority representatives from Saints have been in negotiations for Diego Capel from Sporting.

Hasn't he been supposedly going to everyone from Norwich to Swansea to Liverpool?
Does look quite good. Has some pace on him and his passings good.

I'd like a tenner for every 'good authority' post we have had in the past weeks. When will anybody accept that nothing is leaked because only one man knows and that is NC. I don't even think he would tell MP until a deal was done.

He's not good enough. One assist every six games playing in Portugal and not a brilliant scoring record? No thanks. Totally made up rumour

Hi Eds, great sight.
Could you possibly shed some light on possible transfer targets. 2 young players from lisbon? Or heard anything to indicate proper interest or a possible deal for Banega, Lamela or Damaio? Or any other players we are interested in?
Thank you

{Ed001's Note - I know Southampton spoke to Sporting regarding a player, the general consensus seems to be that it was Dier, though I am not in agreement with that opinion. It would seem to me that Southampton are looking at players at a similar level to Liverpool, such as Coutinho. So, I do agree that it would be a young defender, but I think it more likely to be Ilori, as we know the club are open to selling him, for the right price. It is only that Liverpool have yet to meet the price, so it could be Sporting made contact and asked if Southampton would be willing to meet the price. I have heard nothing new regarding the other 3, in my opinion it is likely that they have all been given up on, for now at least. Other than that, I have heard nothing new.}
I'm ubable to find much recent news about Banega and Damiao either on the web. let's not give up hope just yet though. both transfers particularly damiao's are bound to be complicated. All went quiet with Wanyama and yet we still signed him. I'm remaining positive and keeping my fingers crossed.

Dont know how true this is but heard on one of the footie groups (saints) on facebook that the deal for Damiao has fallen through and they tried to hijack the remy deal before he signed for newcastle. looks like back to the drawing board. can anyone shed any light on this?

Why are we not looking at defoe if there's a chance of him leaving spurs, always scores plenty of goals and quite cheap compared to some of the names flying about that were interested in. birdynumnums

Would make sense.

I think it's very dangerous to take what has been said on facebook et al without a pinch of salt. The Sun reported we were after Remy even though he was never expressed at all by NC/MP. I doubt they would of immediately gone " Oh s**t let's just get him and try and wrap it up in a day. " With most negotiations for contracts there is a level of back and forth and that goes on behind closed doors. Inters chair loves going to the press when someone has bid to low and that hasn't happened recently so I would assume that a bid has been accepted from Inters perspective. Now we play the agent game and we know how difficult that was last time! I say keep the faith and see what happens.

I like the fact that it's gone quiet, the calm before the storm! Both Ramirez and Wanyama went this way, I think the Don has a taste for the dramatic

Think he would be great for a season.

Or Daren Bent! Proven, may just need a fresh start

I'm sure he could do a job for us, but like it or not he is too old for our transfer policy.
Agree4

Because as good as Defoe is and as much as I'd love him to join he really doesn't suit our style of play. We need a big strong center forward who is able to hold the ball up just like Lickie does i. e Damiao.
Someone like Demba Ba would be great for us, and totally available if Rooney goes to Chelski. Tireless striker with all the power to play up top alone.

I can't see the point in discussing Dier with Sporting. How many defensive midfield players do we need? At this rate we are going to lose every game 1-0.
Agree1
Disagree0
{Ed001's Note - isn't Dier a centre back? He has certainly played there every time I have seen him, but that isn't a lot so he could easily have been playing out of position to cover.}
Defoe is 30 and relies on his pace which at his age is bound to be drop ping. He is injured most of the time so to me too much of a gamble.
