Saints are set to hijack readings bid for newcastles Danny Simpson with a 2.5mil bid.

Believable15 Unbelievable5

Yeah I heard this too

Agree11 Disagree1

Hope not-would prefer Clyne.

Martin

Agree3 Disagree7

Personally I'd prefer Simpson over Clyne.

The REAL Martin ;)

Agree9 Disagree1

Obviously the REAL Martin is more trustworthy than Martin. Therefore I'm inclined to agree with him

Agree4 Disagree1

I would prefer Simpson, very consistent and quick who also has BPL experience!

Edward

Agree3 Disagree1

Who cares Edward, I only listen to the REAL Martin.

Steve

Agree2 Disagree0

You should listen to (Saint) Martin rather than REAL Martin, or even BARCA Martin!

Still think there is more to us loaning a CB to CP than we have seen to date.

Sorry Steve haha, was trying to join in with everyone

Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Werder Breman target Alexander Buttner apparently wants to complete a move to newly promoted Southampton.

The Vitesse left-back came to the south coast last week and looked at the facilities that are on offer, and has said to be impressed with the set up and ambition that the club want for the future. He understands his future lies in the hands of his current club, but he does want them to listen and think about what offer the Premier League outfit has put on the table.

Speaking to De Telegraaf , Butter said: ”I want to join Southampton. I have to wait for both clubs to reach an agreement, but I count on the co-operation of Vitesse.”

It has been reported in many media outlets that Fulham had a bid of £1.6m turned down by the Eredivisie club, so Southampton would have a better bid in place to secure the services of the Dutch full back.

Buttner went on to say in De Telegraaf that it would be a massive disappointment to him if this transfer does not take place. So with Alexander Buttner’s transfer looking more than just a rumour, what do we know about the defender?

Buttner was born in 1989 and made his debut for Vitesse in the 2007/2008 season at the age of 18. He scored his first goal in the following season, in which he made 23 appearances and scored a further two goals.

Buttner was picked in the provisional 35-man squad for Holland’s Euro 2012 squad by manager Bert Van Marwijk, but unfortunately never made the final cut. Being selected for the provisional squad shows that he has the quality to be an international player and has gained the acknowledgement for future international stardom. As we all saw in the European Championships, The Netherlands will have a major overhaul of their squad ahead of the qualifiers for the World Cup in Brazil, and if Buttner does make his switch to Saints then he could well be called up more and play a pivotal role in the qualifying group stage.

But, what impact could Buttner have on the Saints squad if he was to sign? The squad already contains the likes of Dan Harding, Ryan Dickson and first choice Danny Fox. In my opinion, Harding and Dickson are not Premier League quality and both could leave, either on loan or permanently, which will leave Fox and Buttner battling it out to give Nigel Adkins a welcomed headache for who to pick. Fox is a fantastic player, but I think he is better going forward than defending, so the competition for first choice left-back will no doubt make both players up their game and the competition will make them better players.

With the transfer of Alexander Buttner looking more likely, this transfer window will keep Saints fans looking to which player will be linked or signing for them next.

Old news I know but its the best article i have come across on the current situation.

KM

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Good post, but don't forget we have Shaw in the wings as well, so with due respect to Harding and Dixon, I would think that Buttner/Fox/Shaw would give Saints superb strength in that position.

Actually they have been right, i can't remember who but one of them said before it was said by any major site that we were in for Alexander Buttner so yeah :L
Spoon ;)

That's odd. I am always commenting here and I never seem to see my comments published.
Obviously I was wrong and I'm glad to see that someone has been reading and believing in my words of wisdom.
I will be here as often as I can be with any news I can muster throughout the season.

SaintlySecurity.

Also i have noticed that someone else has used the name SaintlySecurity. I know who and have told them not to.
I am the one and only..lol.

Cheers mate.

Spoon, the key bit of what you said is one of them. Only one of them is right and even that hasn't led to anything yet!

I havent been one of those that put forth pointless rumours. I just read other peoples comments and give valid good sourced opinion on said rumours. I havent been wrong yet.

I know im no football manager . but with saints and vitesse still trying to agree a fee for buttner.. why cant it be as simple as one phone call where na says
"we'll offer you £2mill"
"no"
"2.25mill"
"no"
"£2.5mill"
"no"
"£2.75mill"
"no, we want £3.5mill"
"ok deal"

According to Dutch football journal Voetbal International the signing of Alexander Büttner is close with just the initial payment falling short of Vitesse's valuation with Saints and Vitesse locked in talks.

Büttner however has made it clear that it's Saints for him and the pressure's on Vitesse to agree as Büttner's contract expires in mid 2when they'd lose him for nothing.

chris

ED38 - Can you get anything on this ?

Chalkie {Ed038's Note - I've heard a couple of rumours that it was Butland but there not too reliable so I can't really say I would just be guessing}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Word at staplewood wasnt butland can tell u that much but all will be revealed soon {Ed038's Note - Why can't you tell us more?}

Agree5 Disagree1

Hope so I think 5/6m is a fair price, he's young, he's English and clearly has talent. But if we do sign him I hope it's not for a ridiculous price

Someone said saints wanted julio ceaser from inter . WONT HAPPEN. here is an interview with him from yesterday

"I have a contract until 2014," Julio Cesar told Sky Sport Italia. "I am an employee of the club. Will I stay? I think so. We'll train and then we will see. It will be the coach who decides who plays.

"The important thing is that there is a respect among us all. Handanovic is a very good goalkeeper; better for us to have him. We will have three strong goalkeepers."

It has been reported that AC Milan might attempt to lure the Selecao shot-stopper away from their city rivals, but Julio Cesar insists that there has been no approach from the Rossoneri.

"There is nothing there," the 32-year-old insisted. "Many people are asking me about this, but there is nothing official."

Meanwhile, Julio Cesar admitted that he is disappointed that Inter have allowed Lucio to leave the club and join bitter rivals Juventus on a free transfer.

"I'm losing all my team-mates and Brazilian friends," he lamented. "But I hope that I can do everything that he has done in his career. Juve have signed a great defender."

Julio Cesar, who has been capped 64 times, joined Inter from Chievo in 2006.

CHRIS

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I'm a saints fan and Julie cesar is way to good for us more like arsenal liverpool standard but if it did some how happen it great signing

Agree1 Disagree3

Don'y like you saying, 'way too good for us'. More a case of we can't yet offer European football or wont pay inflated wages.

Agree2 Disagree1

He is slightly out of our league hopefully one day we can get someone of his calibre in any position

Agree1 Disagree2

Yeah agree with that but you see where I'm coming from

Right so i have been thinking its gone real quiet in our transfer window now so i just have a feeling a player will be revealed soon, i'm not saying i'm right i could be very very wrong but i get the feeling that we are going to reveal one or maybe even two signings over the next week or maybe even start of next week on monday but i just think we must sign someone soon before we start training back at SW.. so what do you guys think?
Spoon ;)

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Southampton returning to feeder club Burnley for right back Keiran Trippier.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

I'm a Burnley fan and whilst I resent the feeder club comment its nearly true!
Rumour here is that Newcastle have made an enquiry (no bid) may depend on Debuchy deal and that two other clubs have made bids well short of asking price.... C'mon u Clarets!!

Agree5 Disagree0

And that comment means your a burnley fan. burnley are NOT a feeder team .lol

Agree3 Disagree0

Actually the three main signings i have heard we are likely to be having are Alexander Buttner, Butland (source = talksport) saying butland is angry he hasnt been allowed to talk to saints and is desperate to join us, (i'll leave a link bellow) and i'm not sure on the third player yet so i'm not mentioning any names until i have some sorta info proving its right :) that's all i really no at the moment sorry lads

OK, Buttner update, from what I can understand from dutch reports is that saints are still very likely to sign the player, Fulham have appeared to have pulled out of negotiations. bid have been made of up to 4 mil by Saints, QPR and Werder Bremen. The player wants to join saints over the other clubs and with Vitesse looking to sell the player the bids will likely be accepted, a three year deal is in place already for Buttner at St. Mary's once a fee is agreed!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I have heard that Buttner deal is done?
good job mate if you are right keep it up but leave a name/nickname so people know you.
Spoon ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Problem we have is their owners are friends with QPR's so are making it difficult for the other teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Buttner has his heart set on us. We just need to agree a fee (if we haven't already). £3.2m apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2012 16:04:27
Saints could be interested in Tom de Mul on a free if no other players come on the right wing.

Emiliano Armenteros could also be a target if they can aquire a work permit and Buttner does not go through.

Isaac Cuenca would be lovely but unlikely.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Didn't Armenteros only recently join Osuana?

Just a quick one about the stupid paper talk about jamie mackie from QPR.
"On 16th May 2012, Mackie penned a one year contract extension, committing himself to the club until 2015."

papers really need to check there facts

Tottenham, Southampton eyeing Inter Milan keeper Julio Cesar

if this speculation is true, I expect the team that fails to sign him, will sign Butland From Birmingham City. As Birmingham have put a starting price of 8m but dont expect either team to pay that more like 6.5 to 7m. With maximum of 1m add ons.

KM

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Cant see us meeting wage demands

Agree3 Disagree1

Forgot to say Aston Villa as well

KM

Agree2 Disagree1

Tottenham wont sing him if their interested in Lloris from Lyon. Or possibly Butland depends on fee and wages. Neither will villa. So Saints will probably win the race for Cesar.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2012 15:55:19
Hedwiges Maduro on a free from Sevilla would make an exceptional defensive signing, would have to see wheher we can afford the wages

I saw Nathaniel Clyne being driven into southampton training ground. Im not saying this is a "done deal", obviously I dont know, but it confirms he is in talks with southampton. {Ed038's Note - That confirms then cheers for that}

Believable5 Unbelievable5

I hate it when people say they saw people walking around Southampton. I want to believe it but I can't. {Ed038's Note - You would need to be pretty dumb to believe it mate}

Agree3 Disagree0

To be honest with you, i walked past gary lineker when i was in london and didn't notice, so how the hell did you recognise nathaniel clyne being driven in southampton?

Agree2 Disagree0

Wish i had the time to wait around all summer in st marys parking lot spotting "signings". i know this is a rumour site but thats no excuse for extremely vivid imagination. alas i have a job. sorry to bring you down to earth but.... if you always post on here each and every daydream you have it makes it impossible to seperate reality... and your fictions

Agree1 Disagree0

Must have X Ray vision to see through his rear tinted windows... oh let me guess the window was down and he was screaming 'look at me, I've signed for southampton'

KM

Agree0 Disagree0

And i saw wayne rooney getting off a plane in poland and also training on a training pitch in krakow. dont mean hes signing for the club who plays there.

Agree1 Disagree0

I saw him in Eastleigh does that mean he's signing for them, I think so

Agree2 Disagree0

How did u know it was Gary lineker if u walked past him and didn't realise?

Agree2 Disagree0

"How did u know it was Gary lineker if u walked past him and didn't realise?" aahahhahah love that comment so much, much respect for ya but seriously leave a name/nickname mate makes it easier to talk to people on here then.
Spoon ;)

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed38 - not to add any fuel to this, but i did hear this morning that there was a new face at staplewood this morning
Chalkie {Ed038's Note - Like I said mate it was only rumours from a not so reliable source but I'll ask around for you}

Agree1 Disagree0

Believe it or not, the girlfriend recognised lineker
Juan Kerr

Agree1 Disagree0

We are delivering concrete to Staplewood at the moment so any new faces may be our driver.......sorry to dissapoint

Kenny Jackett has spoken about Liam Trotters current situation, saying “We definitely want to keep hold of him.'' and then goes on to say “I have seen the speculation in the papers and I’ve also got to say we’ve had no enquiry or bid from Southampton, nor would we necessarily encourage any because Liam is central to what we are trying to do.

“It shows we are doing something right when our players are linked with other teams but there is a big jump between speculation in the papers and it actually happening.

“Speculation is something which is there all of the time but he is our player.”

I'd quite like to see him at SMS but the likelyhood is not looking great. As we are being linked to a few midfielders already and this is the first we've heard of this speculation since close of season. But you never know whats going on in the Office.

KM

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I heard the Trotter rumour back in early May, just after the Michu rumours. Definately not the first anyone has heard of it.

Southampton target Fraser Forster has signed for Celtic.

KM

Believable8 Unbelievable5

Shame, might have been a good signing.

Agree6 Disagree5

Again KM, never a target. You get a lot of things wrong don't you. Butland is our main GK target.

saintintheknow

Agree1 Disagree3

Actually "saintintheknow" he was a target, it was in the papers for a bout 3days, that's why his talks with Celtic stalled! and im a saints fan.
Your not really in the know are you.

Agree1 Disagree1

Again 'saintintheknow' disagreeing with me, dear me get on the paper talk, and actually Butland deal is cooling off as we are moving our interests to Julio Cesar if he does end up leaving Inter, If not then we'll go back in for Butland but we wont be held to ransom cant see us paying no more than 7m initially with roughly 1m bonuses.
