Eds is there any new news on Austin? Or any other prem proven players? Thanks!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - last I heard QPR were trying to convince Austin to give them a chance to get straight back up. England will tell him he needs to be in the Prem to stay in the squad though, so I expect some movement over the next couple of weeks on him.}

Cheers much appreciated

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome.}

Ed do you have any idea why austin is valued at 10mil and long was 11mil?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't worry about it mate, values come from hundreds of different variables, Austin has only just come out of non league, that reduces his value until he has proven himself over a period of time. Long, on the other hand, had been in the Prem for a while.}

I see the steklenberg rumour is gathering pace, good news as our only options at the moment are an injured frazer forster and davis who's geriatric to say the least and gazzanigga who I personally think would be showing more promise after being at the club for about 5 yrs besides anyone with as mu h international/European experience would be a welcome addition, fingers crossed

05 Jun 2015 15:04:02
I think it's likely, as his European experience would be useful and he is a player Koeman knows a lot about, I think he'd be a very good signing, someone Gazzangia can learn from too

If gazzaniga hasn't learned the basics of goalkeeping in 5 years what makes you think steklenberg and the coaching staff can teach him otherwise?

Gazzaniga has only been at the club 3 years, and I thought he looked to have improved a lot this season over years past.

Stekelenburg has been a disaster since the 2010 World Cup. We do need a new 'keeper, but I really don't think he's the best option available.

Think its unbelievable that teams need to coach any "professional"footballer once u make it out of an acadamy u should already know your job .but foster used to be a rugby player but because he was big Newcastle trained him as a keeper no wonder he flaps on corners and I know before u say it "he pulled off some excellent saves" yes granted but look at it this way players shot straight at him in certain saves we are talking about.

I also thought Gazzaniga looked better when he played and made some smart saves against Villa in particular, I can see us just using him tbh, I'm not expecting Sketlenberg to teach him ponykeeper83, it's good for any young player to learn from more experienced players who have played at a high level, I think he'd be good personally

St sam gazzaniga's hands stay in line with his face doesn't spread himself and just looks constantly nervous we have the best coaching staff he should of been ready a long time ago we just released youngsters better then him

Southampton87 it's 'Forster' and of course you need to continuously train professionals,it's about gaining experience and learning from mistakes. Gazzanigga has come on leaps and bounds in 3 years, he's also managed to convince the club that they don't need to keep An American international keeper on the books as he will be better long term.

Gazzaniga is only 23, not that old for a keeper, I think he'll keep improving, I guess we'll see

Pretty sure most in any acadamy have been trained for there postion since 14-15 he is 23 how old is de gea and the young chelsea goal keeper .
Even steve g and lamps when asked said there has to be natural talent before you can be one of the best.
Anyway gazza will one day be an ok keeper

well we've been linked to a lot of players today, including; Adrien Silva (CM, sporting lisbon), Gregoire Defrel (Atacker, Cesena), Simon Kjaer (CB, Lille), Okaka (striker sampdoria), Berahino, Austin and Sketlenberg. Ofcourse a lot of these won't be true, but a lot would make great signings! Kjaer would be class at CB, Austin would be a perfect main striker and Berahino, whilst I doubt it could happen would be immense!

Been linked with Austin massively, can see it happening as Austin stated he deserves to play in the premier league. If I'm honest I doubt we will sign anyone from the English leagues, I'd imagine Koeman will look toward the Dutch league again.

There's definitely some noise gathering about Austin, he'll be a great fit and will give us much needed rotation with Pelle, I think we're probably priced out of a move for Berahino.

Eds, any idea who we've been scouting in Portugal this season? I always thought it might be an Attacking Mid, as I recall we've been linked with Rafa Silva in the past.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Braga's Rafa Silva has indeed been looked at.}

Cheers for confirming Ed002, would I not be right in saying he plays more centrally than as a number 10? So could potentially be more a replacement for Schneiderlin?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You would need to go and read up on him SF29. He has certainly played regularly as a winger.

Clasie is looking less likely to join Southampton now.}

Im still convicted that IF we sign Austin pelle or long will be gone especially when Rodriguez has just signed a new deal

Are you mad :P we needed another striker last season and this season we will have EL. No way will Long be sold, very versatile and an absolute gem of a squad player, perfect for a club pushing to feature in Europe. Nor will Pelle unless AC milan or likewise offer silly money.

Yeah, Esso is right, and Jay Rod and Long both play as Wide Strikers. We haven't really had a back-up striker since Osvaldo left, so Austin would easily find a place in the squad without upsetting anyone. Pelle will get more than enough chances given how much support he's had from Koeman over the years.
