Many people seem to think Southampton need an experienced first team centre back and perhaps a young one in reserve. I think it would be good to get that first team player and a versatile player that can play centre half as well as elsewhere. I've heard that Blackburn are trying to shift Steven Nzonzi. They had no takers when offering him for 5m and now they are looking to send him out on loan (can only imagine the player wants out). This would be a great option for Saints and if BBurn are looking to get rid he could be purchased for less than 5m. He filled in for them at centre half last season and did quite well in a poor side, plus he is a good tackling midfielder and young.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

I agree we don't need to sign on a basis of experience and that youth is important. But I'm not sure tis player is right for us, we need to look elsewhere I think.

Agree1 Disagree4

Nzonzi is an excellent player - would be a great signing. C Mid is fairly strong for Saints - but Nzonzi could play in a top 6 side I think.

Matt Jarvis is actually now looking like he will be leaving Wolves after all, the club have (Supposedly) accepted a bid from Southampton in the region of £5million for the player and contract terms are supposed to be reached in the coming days.

Furthermore it seems PSV are keen to keep Jermaine Lens but they have accepted a bid which they consider favourable for the player and it will be up to him if he wants to take the contract at St Mary's or if he wants to stay in Holland.

Final news item is Southampton apparently have agreed terms with a defender and they are set to have a medical in the coming days, not sure who but they have said a new defender is coming, any idea who it could be?

Believable10 Unbelievable7

Hope we sign both Matt Jarvis and Jeremain Lens - would add some much need pace to the wings.
As for the centre back - dont know who but would expect it to be of good quality

Are you just telling us what we want to hear or is there some truth in this?

Agree9 Disagree0

This is what I've been told by my friend at the club.

Agree1 Disagree3

The signings of Lens and Jarvis would make every Saints fan very happy however I think that this is more of a dream then anything. Either that of the guy is just informing us of his Football Manager targets

Hearing that we have made another offer for Dann not sure what ££ but hearing a player + cash deal

also hearing Villa are interested in Lambert

Chalkie

Believable4 Unbelievable9

First things first Dann just isn't worth the effort Blackburn won't sell we're wasting time on him. Secondly Villa would have to offer a bomb to get Lambert... Then again that may well happen.

Agree4 Disagree0

Agree with the first bit - would be a good signing, completely disagree with the second bit - not going anywhere

SaintlySpud25

Agree6 Disagree0

I'd be surprised if Villa want Lambert as has never played at this level before, although Paul Lambert likes to play off a big man. Saints would need a replacement and I'm not sure J Rod is enough of a target man. Dont think this will happen..

Agree2 Disagree1

I never said Lambert was going, i agree with you - i'm just saying Villa are intrested

Ive heard a small rumor that southampton are intrested in stokes defender ryan shawcross.
in my opinion, i think it would be great signing as he is still only 24 and has over 150 games expierence in the premiership, and has been a captin for the last 2 season. Just hope its a true one - chris

Believable5 Unbelievable11

I dont think Stoke want to sell Shawcross and even if they did Man Utd have first option on him .
teejaysaint

Agree5 Disagree2

I have also heard this, dont know if anything will come of it. but i will agree, that he will be a great signing
Mark

Agree3 Disagree3

Why do they have first option on him? How do you know that? Did you read his contract?
Huey {Ed007's Note - Utd do have first option on Shawcross. Alex Ferguson insisted on it being part of the deal that too him to Stoke.}

Agree3 Disagree0

Its about 2 weeks till the start of the season now, and we still need a fair few players, can we PLEASE stop putting up rumours that just will never happen, its annoying as we need signings and people are spreading rumours that are ridiculous

JustASaint

Agree3 Disagree4

JustaSaints just do you know this a RUMOUR site.

Agree8 Disagree1

JustASaint this is a RUMOR site, not a confirmed transfer site. if you just want confirmed transfers, please look at the saints website

Agree6 Disagree0

If u read his comment, he said stop posting rumours that will jut never happen; meaning the ones that people make up not all rumours!

Mini-saint

Agree3 Disagree2

On Celtic site, Southampton still want Hooper and Kayal, want Kayal to link with Steve Davis in midfield

Agree2 Disagree3

You'd thought the web page FOOTBALL TRANSFERS RUMOURS may have give it a way

Chalkie

Agree2 Disagree1

They may well be interested, even if they are I doubt Stoke would sell him. Furthermore what does this 'first option' thing mean, ed? {Ed007's Note - Here is what Tony Pulis said:

"We are under no pressure whatsoever to sell Ryan Shawcross and that's from the chairman," said Pulis, before outlining the agreement that was struck with Ferguson, the United manager. "Manchester United have a buy-back clause and they have the first option on Ryan at any price or bid we receive. So if we get a bid for him, we tell Sir Alex and then it's up to him. I think that Alex is being very astute and clever and experienced and you would expect no less from the man."}

Agree0 Disagree0

JustaSaint seems to be JustAComplainer, shawcross would be a good singing but its not likely to happen, and this first option thing is just dat, stoke own the player and they can decide to sell him whenever. United will only have first choice if they want to sign him. which they currently don't which would mean they would probably receive part of the transfer fee instead. On the other hand i expect a CB and another signing possibly a pacey winger by the end of the week. If not the i am afraid we will end up paying inflated prices near the deadline for players we won't nessacerily want. A good example being arsenal last season.
Jas93

Agree2 Disagree0

Seriously Shawcross? Get real.. He is a SOLID cb. and if he were to leave Stoke who do edge closer to Europe every year it will be teams such as Man u or Arsenal. His wage would be Twice what our players are on... and It would ruin the Ethos of the club within this first season.

Agree0 Disagree4

I reckon Shawcross would be a good signing, if he saw what is happening at Southampton he'd probably like the idea of the move. The Southampton plan seems to make players like the club and I imagine his wage demands aren't too high (not that I personally know).

Agree1 Disagree1

We are the seventh richest club in the country its not a matter of wether we can afford his wages or not it's wherer it's worth the wages and Im not sure if it is or not.

Agree1 Disagree1

"get real, shawcross is a solid defender" to the guy who made that comment , dont you want to see a solid defender come to OUR team ? ild rather a solid defender came then someone whos a flop !

Agree2 Disagree0

I didn't say the wages were un affordable for our club, but we're trying to set a standard of being a cost-effective club. Therefore we don't want to spend more than about 35,000 a week on any player I'd imagine.

Tadanari lee was seen inside st Mary's at the wolves game and I've been told he was still wearing protective footwear. Not sure if this is to strengthen it or to be used when resting as I've seen on here that he's training?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

No he wasn't I was there early to get autographs and lee was there walking fine and someine asked how is your foot and he said fine now but I'm not match fit.

Matt

Agree5 Disagree0

I am afraid that the CB signing will go down to the wire of the transfer window. As we have all hoped for an Experienced, Quality CB and agree that cover is needed. NA/NC is scouting a world class defender (not youth - we have that), they usually don't come available until the big clubs make their moves, if they bring in x then y is available, last minute late night haggling seems to be in the cards.

Agree4 Disagree0

He is in training, he said himself on twitter hes in light training. but wont be fit for start of season - chris

Agree1 Disagree0

No he wasnt. I work at the stadium and was on car park duty and saw him walk in fine with chaplow.

Agree1 Disagree0

I did hear that he may go on a months loan to gain match fittness

What's going on down St MarysL:
NA is still very keen on Jarvis.
Lallana is to be given the captaincy as he is a guaranteed starter in every game, with Schneiderlin becoming vice.
A bid for Caulker is about to go in at 10million. If we fail in that NA is going to look abroad.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

I like Caulker but I hope Saints would not pay £10 million for him. Worth maybe £5 million.
teejaysaint

Agree2 Disagree2

I can't lallana being captain at 24 or whatever age he is. I would have thought, K.Davis should keep the captaincy for at least next season.

Lenny

Agree3 Disagree1

K Davis isn't team captain. It was taken from him and given to Hammond because it didn't work. Davis (who is a great leader and model pro) is rightly the club captain.
