Foster is having medical on Thursday and will sign bye Friday that a good one hope for more

Believable15 Unbelievable6

I heard the club have booked a medical for tomorrow but it's unlikely to be Forster.

Agree5 Disagree2

If it was Ben Foster I think he would be as good as Forster, did you see his incredibly bad box positioning last night. Don't want to be a spoil sport but him and Van Dijck looked like a carbon copy of Hooiveld and Gazzaniga so beware of what we might be getting. Another post asked if most of us have seen VVD play, I think not and all the hype has convinced most of you he is a good player. Conceding 6 goals to a pretty poor side does not convince me they are suitable starting material for Anfield on the 17th. We need players in those positions we can rely on and that can only be players who have played in the PL before. Marshall and Vlaar for me everytime.

Agree7 Disagree3

07 Aug 2014 09:48:32
Why is that unlikely? It could all have been sorted bar the shouting just in case they failed last night

Agree2 Disagree1

07 Aug 2014 10:08:11
I still can't get my head round why so many people are so desperate to sign Forster, did you see his terrible positioning in last nights game against a poor Polish side? Have any of you ever seen him play a competitive first class game? Are you all thinking he is great player because you are led to believe this by media hype? Also Virgil Van Dijck, in the two games he played against Legia Warsaw he made Hooiveld look like Franz Beckenbauer. Just don't get it, why don't we sign players that can play in the PL that we know we can trust. Marshall the best goalkeeper I saw last season by a country mile and I just can't see him starting in the Championship for Cardiff so one of our rivals will get him and we will probably seriously regret it. Ron Vlaar as well, does exactly what it says on the tin, strong and reliable and most importantly experienced against all the top players in the Premier League. I just think I would rather we knew what we were getting when paying the best part of £20 million on two players that let's face it have only ever played against opposition the equivalent of our first division. I know it sounds like I'm a know all but it just seems common sense to me that to come from Celtic who are probably only low Championship standard at best to start at Anfield in 10 days is a massive risk for us especially with absolutely no game time or gelling with squad. I am very seriously concerned that we will get hammered but I would love to be wrong. Don't know whether anybody else feels the same way, I can't be the only one can I?

Agree12 Disagree2

Forster is still young and has the potential to be great with the right coaching (which we can offer)
Van djik is only 22 so I would hope he would be coming in as a third centre back (with fonte and 'vlaar??') playing along side experience he has the potential to develop into a great cb. The fact he was in and around the Dutch squad prior to the World Cup should speak to his quality.

Agree4 Disagree1

Surely Boruc will still be starting. Be good to have a number 2 keeper who we can have some confidence in and who clearly has a promising future, with quality GK coaching in place to get the best from him.

Agree7 Disagree1

I can see where the worries are coming from. If we can get some early points it would be great! It all depends on whether these players whoever they are, are jelling. this is why we have all been so frustrated at the slowness of these transfers. Its all very well saying we have all of August to get players in, but the horse could have bolted. I agree, Marshall was easily the best last year, and a top top goalie would be great, but those other two positions, cb and up front are more important.

Agree3 Disagree1

I sort of agree jmSaint but we are going to pay shed loads of money for these two. Most people are saying VVD is a shoe in at CB. I would have Boruc in goal in front of Forster for sure, Artur is a bit careless at times but he is a great keeper.

Agree4 Disagree1

Van dijk is a great player, I think there performance last night might have had something to do with the fact that there incomes where going to double if they played badly

Agree2 Disagree1

Why would Vlaar move sideways from Villa to us? We're not as well off as the media would like you to believe so don't say we pay him silly money. We won't. And he is not young. At best a short term fix. Great player but probably not going to come to Saints.

Marshall might have done tho. Still might I suppose. But it looks like being Forster. Boruc will be first choice though I expect. Forster will have time to develop.

Agree3 Disagree1

Sorry: Vlaar move sideways? At what point is it moving sideways to ambition? Villa have lost their way and knowing as a player you will get paid similar, but with the prospect of being a well respected senior member of the team and regular attacking first team football. Not biting Vectis, just don't see the logic :)

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 15:47:26
Vlaar would come to us for 2 reasons. Firstly he would I think relish the new challenge with Koeman who he knows and respects. Secondly believe it or not we are in an incredibly better situation financially than Villa who are in complete meltdown. We are ( and I know most of you don't believe it ) actually going forward and will within the next couple of years be a permanent force to be reckoned with. We will have a strong business base and never again struggle in this very competitive league. I believe that 100% and hope we give the owner and board the chance to prove it to us, but it won't happen overnight. Patience is a virtue.

Agree6 Disagree1

07 Aug 2014 20:41:04
Somebody said No 5 and 7 are not allocated. Anybody have any real concrete rumours who they might be. Got a feeling they could be different to what everybody expects. Not sure about Rojo for all that money but I certainly think he is worth a go. Not sure his complicated ownership ( sounds almost sci-fi ) will speed up a transfer though. Might take a while and a while we do not have.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 18:54:27
Newsnow, we're still negotiating a deal for rojo although we had our original bid rejected, hurry up and get this beast! Haha COYS

Believable13 Unbelievable0

And Clasie! Now THAT is more like it! Add Forster to that list, and we are at least as good as last season,

Agree11 Disagree2

He will be our new no5

Agree3 Disagree2

If we get rojo we're as good as last season, if we get Clasie, we're better! (In terms of depth anyway). I doubt we will though unless Shneiderlin leaves as we have just signed Taider, who is also a classy exciting player

Agree8 Disagree2

Rojo would be a great signing. Fingers crossed. Celtic didn't bother to put up much of a fight tonight, sorry Ed 007, so perhaps we can close a deal for Forster and van Dijk now. Looking forward to the game on Saturday

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I can't believe how badly we've played in both legs. I'm still not convinced that van Dijk fancies a move to Southampton but the Forster deal should be announced any time in the next few days.}

Taider classy exciting player?
Have watch any of his reels!
He looks very average at best!

Agree3 Disagree7

I hope Van Dijk does decide he likes Southampton. I would like to see him join us but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't. Signing Forster would be good news though.

Shame about the poor performances Ed, that's football sometimes I guess. Still Europa League, Celtic could do well in that.

Agree2 Disagree1

Even better than last season? That's a bold statement considering teams take a while to gel.

Look at Tottenham last season. We would have been delighted to have signed the caliber of players they did yet most of them were flops and the team struggled massively for their expectations.

Our team last season had a real core of players willing to work hard for eachother. The pre season last year was eveident of that looking back at the videos that were posted online.

The camaraderie and team spirit was excellent so to emulate that with a complete brand new breed of players and the unrest in the camp over the past 6 weeks will be hard to beat.

I hope I eat my own words, it's just I can't see us being any better than last season. maybe Roko is a genius and will prove me wrong?!?

Agree5 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 09:50:15
Totally agree. Our team spirit was amazing and I think that could be a big reason as to how well we did. Teams take a while to get used to each other. Especially with how many new to epl players we are going to have

Agree2 Disagree0

As professional footballers I am sure those players remaining will want to prove to those who left that they were wrong in doing so. I also think the new guys coming in will also have something to prove. As a manager of kids football I see this a lot. Kids who get poached to another club and don't perform and the new ones that come in play well. As long as the staff remain and we work on the same work ethic I think we could suprise a few. We are the saints and we have for the most part always been the underdog. We need to get behind the team and board and act as one?

Taider deal all gone through fine given number 17 shirt. So still expect some more signings coming soon

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Finally. next.

Agree6 Disagree1

Where does it say given number 17?

Agree5 Disagree7

@The Hedge on the Saints twitter

New signing, Saphir has been given number 17 shirt

Agree2 Disagree1

Sorry, it wasn't on saints website and I didn't check Facebook!

Fraser Forster and Van Dijk to sign this week if Celtic knocked out the champions league tonight.

Combined total of £18m is the fee set (£8m Forster and £10m Van Dijk)

This is to follow after Taider confirmed tomorrow (Thursday)

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Let's hope so I will keep the faith but it's getting harder never faut I would say this but come on Poland

Agree3 Disagree2

Taider confirmed already. Season long loan. Am I the only one wondering why another central midfielder?

Agree4 Disagree2

Clearly false information as Taider has been confirmed already!

Agree6 Disagree2

Egg on face

Agree2 Disagree1

Well SaintPhil you are not the only one and further than that I believe they are looking at other midfield options as well, very odd.

Agree1 Disagree2

I also don't understand another cm.
So far we have been playing 4-3-3.
Taider, cork, wanyama, jwp, Davis. Even ramires played a cm role against Bournemouth.
We have been playing with wingers also, and I feel only ramires could really suit that role.
It will be interesting, I don't know enough of koemans previous lineups at feyenoord to guess different formations. I've seen 5-3-2 mentioned a few times and we are well short of cb to play like that.
Personally though I would start cork, jwp and wanyama or Davis. Strong cm bench.

Agree2 Disagree1

IMO it was the only way we were able to get shot of Osvaldo.

Agree6 Disagree0

Taider's more of an offensive midfielder, he'll be a link between Cork/Wanyama/Spider and Tadic/Ramirez/whoever else

Agree4 Disagree1

06 Aug 2014 19:47:16
Pretty sure Taider is a defensive midfielder known for getting stuck into challenges and holding up the ball well, would never consider him and offensive midfielder. I do think with Wanyama and Cork we had that position covered however I won't ever argue about having depth here especially with his age and on a loan deal not costing a considerable amount. However have heard rumors about him having a poor work rate. Davis, JWP, Reed and Gaston are all able to play higher up the pitch with Spider an out and out box to box however I worry with midfielders coming in we are preparing him to leave. let's get an attacking threat, whether wide or through the middle, and some CB's in now and the team could push on this season. let's keep it optimistic

Agree1 Disagree0

Starting to like the look of the new saints lineup. Two more signing of similar ability to the ones signed I will be happy. Really think some of our youngsters will come good this season. Really impressed with isgrove pre season. Wouldn't mind him starting v Liverpool tbh

Agree7 Disagree0

With all the crap that's going on in the Ukraine at the moment, why don't we try our luck with some of the players there. They might want out.
Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk still have some quality players. Douglas Costa, Fernando, Alex Teixeira, Jeremain Lens, Dragovic just to name but a few. What do you think?
I already see we've been linked with Belhanda. Don't think I've seen much of him, so can't comment on this being a good buy.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

I checked out a YouTube video on Belhanda and he did look a bit special - An attacking Midfielder than can play either left, right or in the centre behind the main sticker - Has an eye for goal, takes players on and has good pace!

Agree3 Disagree2

Kiev is a long way from the troubles. Dragovic however might be a good signing at cb.

Agree2 Disagree1

Belhanda was much more highly rated when he was at Montpellier in the same team where Remy Cabellla played until recently. However unlikely to move as he would command massive wages.

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Aug 2014 15:54:49
good idea!. just a bit pointless as it won't happen since the fans don't choose who the club buys

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 16:04:41
Just like to ask Psychosaint regarding Van Dijck, you say he would be good cover. For who?

Agree1 Disagree1

Yeah, let's kick the Ukrainians whilst they're down.

Agree4 Disagree2

Maybe not so much of a back up at the moment as we don't have any centre backs. If rojo came possibly rojo and fonte if we play a back 3 rojo fonte and Virgil although vlar would be quality.

Agree2 Disagree1

Fernando already off to city

Agree3 Disagree1

What about konepolankya or however you spell it, good player

Agree4 Disagree0

The Fernando City have signed was from Porto. If they signed the one from Shaktar they would then have Fernando, Fernando and Fernandinho which is just ridiculous.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:05:28
Fernando Lucas Martins plays for Shaktar. City bought 'the octopus' Fernando Francisco Reges known for his insane interceptions. The octopus is the better CDM atm but has 5 years on the one FLM who is only 22. Would be a good buy as he has bags of potential however would be costly and we do not need any more midfielders. CB and attackers only now please after this Forester deal

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 20:09:03
Also as if you would talk about the Ukrainian league and not mention konoplyanka or yarmolenko. I'd take either of them. We need some decent wide players

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 21:06:40
Still think I would prefer Ron Vlaar coming here as he is used to playing in the Premier League. Rojo may be a great player but it's a different world in the PL to the league he currently plays in. It is a great deal of money with no guarantees it will actually work out.

Agree1 Disagree0

I reckon we should go for Fabian Schar, Dragovic's ex team mate? Looked good for Switzerland!

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 12:59:36
Let's stop mucking around and get rojo signed ASAP. Would also like to see the central defender from Celtic also for extra cover. Jos simply not good enough for premier league.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Van dijk would walk straight in our team. He wouldn't be cover

Agree4 Disagree3

Yes sir!, forgot we were all given the power over transfers.

Agree5 Disagree1

06 Aug 2014 14:17:27
Saints have valued Rojo at £10m. Sporting CP and his agent are demanding £16m. We have said take it or leave it, as for a defender with 2 years left on his contract, having previously been bought for £3.5m, is not worth £8m a year. So now the agent is punting Rojo around for a better deal. It may come to it that they come back to us, but Saints may say no we gave you the offer and you did not take it. We do not have the budget to flutter £16m on a defender, and neither should we have to spend that amount. Van Dijk may be more willing to go for £10m but at the moment nothing further has been mentioned about him moving.

Agree3 Disagree4

Also one roumour is a double signing of Rojo and Younes Belhanda!

God I really hope we get some movement soon! would love to be amazed and surprised by southampton bringing some quality players in that our not in the media radar

Dont see it happening though. I know every one says be patient but worrying about signings, especially why this time last week RK was hoping to have a few signings wrapped up by the weekend!

What has happened to them??

Agree4 Disagree1

06 Aug 2014 15:12:23
i have just read that swansea are after van dijk
come on saints get him quick before other teams get him
forestsaint

Agree2 Disagree0

Why would we spend 16 million on a full back when we don't have a centre half. People have said he can play as a CB but don't we need a proper top quality CB who plays in that position week in week out.

Agree1 Disagree2

06 Aug 2014 16:50:11
How many more times do people need to be told? Tojo is a centre back who can cover at LB. he is not a LB. our LBs for this season are Bertrand & Tarrgett.

Agree6 Disagree3

I have said it a lot of times now, Rojo was primarily used as a CB for Sporting CP, you can check their match line ups if you like, he can also play LB and did a very good job for Argentina there but is primarily a CB

Agree3 Disagree3

06 Aug 2014 12:31:50
No 5 or 7 in the squad numbers. Who are we saving them for.

see what I did there!

Agree13 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 12:28:16
Fonte has told Portuguese media that he is in negotiations over his contract. Though I cannot see it discussed anywhere, that is a potential reason to therefore speculate the same is happening for Cork.

Saphir Taider confirms talks with Southampton and has followed Southampton on twitter. Def signing amongst strong rumours he will sign tomorrow following passing a medical today.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Thought he passed his medical yesterday

Agree3 Disagree1

06 Aug 2014 11:38:37
Apparently we are very keen on signing Scott Sinclair. What do you guys make of this?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Rumour about Younes Belhanda coming our way. He is a very talented player as he can play wide or inside and is quick. Sounds good to me.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 13:35:03
belhanda is a great player. not amazingly surprised that we are linked with Sinclair as we seem to be linked every transfer window. perhaps his younger brother could convince him to join

Agree2 Disagree1

Forget Sinclair. not as good as he thinks he is!

Agree1 Disagree1

I think all these players have actually become underated since joining big clubs and not getting played, I think they were perhaps a tad overated when they signed for big clubs like that as they clearly have not stepped up to the mark, by they I mean the likes of Sinclair, Rodwell and Richards (even though he wasn't signed, just hasn't been played). As for Sinclair he has just come back from a couple of bad injuries, I reckon he'd be a good signing as he's still young and we could use his pace out on the wing

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 02:36:07
Ezequiel Schelotto to sign on loan from inter as well as taider. supposed to be a decent, pacey winger.

Believable5 Unbelievable6

Just watched a video of him on YouTube, reminds me of Terry Curran back in 78/9 - a lot of pace but no end product

Agree1 Disagree0

Could be likely! I'm hoping the reason for the taider delayed announcement is because schelotto being unveiled too.

Saints are going to go on a 35 million spending spree this week with forster, Hernandez, vlarr and Van Dijk

Agree5 Disagree7

Mmm, I'm going to take any news with a pinch of salt, not sure about him, read some inter fans reviews and his abilities are not seen as one of his strengths. Also on the subject of loans, I'm a bit annoyed that we've cashed in on our players and only getting loans in (or so it appears), it's ok if it's a try before you buy, although having said this the board also need to invest (buy) players or it does just look like they're cashing in.

Agree2 Disagree2

Nice guy by all accounts! but a bit like are hoover! From what I've read on the inter forums there happy to get shot of him! Only time will tell?
But not what we need! A very underwhelming transfer!
Must try harder?

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Aug 2014 10:52:59
Find some things very odd you know. A newspaper is stating that we are very interested in Alvaro Gonzalez from Lazio, another midfielder. The strange thing is that are selling him to get funds to purchase a quality CB! Now am I missing something here?

Agree0 Disagree1

Deutsche. There was one magical moment from Curran. It took Saints to Wembley. I was at the Dell, Milton end behind the goal when he scored against Leeds after a 2-2 draw at Elland Road. Re Scheletto, do we not have better options? Either on the books or via our tremendous scouting system? Excuse the sarcasm.

Agree2 Disagree0

Hope you are right max. all the clubs around us have made some really good signings. hull, newscastle, stoke have bojan for phugg sake! still kreuger is being a bit more vocal now and there is plenty of time left. he has said the reinvestment will be in transfers and/or wages and also stated he wanted a stronger and deeper squad than last year. people saying we don't need another GK obviously never watched gazzaniga last season. we needed another CB before< Lovren leaving. I suspect however hoover will be used by koeman because of the gronigen connection. why we are linked with every midfielder under the sun I really don't know. if I was shopping I would want 1 gk 2 cb (1 that can cover rb) 1 creative cam and 2 st. if pelle gets injured we have no goals what so ever in us. mayuka? sharp? gallagher? jrod is still a way off.

Agree3 Disagree0

Armstrong do you remember the behaviour of the leeds fans that night? I was given my brother in law's seasons ticket that night in the west stand. Leeds supporters were given the end of the west stand where it meets the archers.

Lucky to get out in one piece. Turns out it was practice for the final against Forest where the violence before, during and then in the car park after the game was biblical.

Sorry not a rumour just your post about curran. he had a great hair do as well.

Agree1 Disagree0

We all know where the weanesses are, cb and no cutting edge up front. I agree if the main man gets injured we are very light weight. No goals no 3 points! I am sure Roko is aware of this, so who is coming in to get the goals?

Agree0 Disagree0

Golac (Another fine Saint) Yes mate I remember there being trouble but was more than preoccupied by the result, being only 11 at the time. And the third trip to Wembley in three years and this time against Cloughie and Forest. When Peachie scored the first. I thought we would go on to win but alas, Forest had other ideas.
