What do we think about Luiz Gustavo from Bayern coming to the Saints, the deal could be on in the coming weeks now that Bayern have opened the door for a move away.

The Leandro Damiao move looks like its off now which is disappointing but it may be a blessing as we can pursue cheaper options.

Thoughts?

Believable1 Unbelievable16

Why would Saints buy another defensive midfielder? How many do they need? Gustavo would cost as much as Wanyama. Can't see them shelling out for a position where there's already three or four players filling it.

Agree6 Disagree1

Yes he is going leave European champions for saints who are not even in the Europa cup lol

Agree5 Disagree4

Another midfielder? Doubt it

Agree5 Disagree1

I hope you know that he is a defensive midfielder? And we have got plenty of quality in that position, so no thanks. We don't need Gustavo :)

Agree4 Disagree1

Lol way out of our league

Agree6 Disagree3

Flamini rumour resurfacing - he's a defensive midfielder too isn't he? What's with DM's at Saints this season?!

Agree2 Disagree1

With all the high pressure football we will be playing I think Mopo will be wearing the players out and need several high intensity players in the team especially in the middle of the park where the majourity of the grafting will be done so I wouldn't discount it just yet

Agree6 Disagree1

Above post. I meant to say Flamini not Gustavo

Agree5 Disagree1

Wakey wakey! We will not sign gustavo he is highly rated and will go to a top Top CL, OP is extremely duluded

Saints are apparently interested in Marko Arnautović and are pursuing all avenues to see whether they can prize him from Bremen, would fit the mould of forward/winger as cover/competition for Ramirez and rodriguez.

Fingers crossed on this one

Believable5 Unbelievable3

That would be class!

Agree3 Disagree2

Ridiculous. He's looking to leave Werder as they want to shift him. Been linked with Valencia and West Ham already to name two.
Not good enough. Not enough goals/assists, not put in many good performances over 2 seasons.
He also plays on the right. Not where we need improvement

Agree5 Disagree0

Steve de ridder mark 2. We've got to be really careful we add first team quality not just bench warmers.

Agree4 Disagree0

Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin has said that he is yet to receive any bids for Austrian striker Marko Arnautovic.

The 24-year-old, who scored five goals in 21 starts last season, has been linked with a move to West Ham United.

Real Sociedad and Dynamo Kiev are also believed to be interested, but Eichin said that he expects Arnautovic to honour his contract with Die Werderaner.

"At this point in time we are in no talks with any club regarding the future of Marko Arnautovic, " Eichen told Bild.

"Marko Arnautovic is part of the first-team squad and has a contract at our club. "

Arnautovic's contract runs out next summer

Agree1 Disagree0

Jose Mourinho said that Arnautovic "is a fantastic person but has the attitude of a child". Seems that there are some behavioural problems with this chap

"Finnbogason scored 24 Eredivisie goals for Heerenveen last league campaign, Finnbogason has clearly benefited from the advice of his coach van Basten.

Van Basten was a player of outstanding technical skill and whilst Finnbogason cannot yet be said to have yet reached the level of his Dutch master, the two share a hunger and predatory instinct in front of goal will surely see Finnbogason harness the best of his ability.

Adept with his head and with both feet, Finnbogason could be set to become the latest Eredivise import to make a splash in the crowded waters of the Premier League. "

fingers crossed its us lads! COYR!

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Off to celtic once they qualify for CL tonight I believe as he wants european football

Agree3 Disagree11

Players would probably prefer us over celtic as the epl seems a bigger pull. but this guy grew up in scotland so I think he will end up there

Agree5 Disagree1

I doubt our interest is genuine, most people to publicise that we are interested are just playing on the fact we don't give much away.

Agree3 Disagree1

Victor wanyama didn't!! Nor Gary hooper!

Agree5 Disagree1

Celtic are not through to the CL yet, there is another playoff round before that.
Just thought I'd specify as some seem to think they can have the wisdom without the knowledge.

Agree4 Disagree0

Why go to Celtic - Wanyama and hooper proved who is the more appealing and ambitious club.

Agree1 Disagree0

So players come and go at celtic if they won't to go and fight relegation in the hope a bigger team comes in for them then fine but for the record celtic are still and allways will be the more attractive club not to mention 1 of the biggest in the world wanyama went for the money hooper went to get an england call up nothing more any way

Agree0 Disagree1

For the record celtic are a huge club with a huge fan base unfortunatly its in one of the worst leagues in the world with absolutely no competition, there's nothing there exept a couple of champs league games if your lucky, what's appealing about that?

another striker rumour Alfred Finnbogason, could be available for around 5m.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I've read that we're competing with Everton for his signature. Striking record from last season was amazing (albeit in the Dutch league) - For that money I would suggest he could be worth the gamble.

Agree6 Disagree1

He looks good, natural goal scorer could be worth it

Agree4 Disagree2

This is very interesting! I'm from Sweden and he played here for Helsingborg one season. I don't know exactly how many goals he scored, but he was one of the top scorers! He is an intelligent player who has a nose for goals, and is very efficient! And he scored even more in his season in the Netherlands. Could be worth a shot!

Swedish Saint

Agree4 Disagree1

This guy could be a terrific signing! I hope it happens.

MD

Agree7 Disagree0

And he wears the #11 shirt that is not yet filled!

I like this player would be a good fit.

Mr T

Agree6 Disagree0

Saints are looking at a deal of 3. 5 plus jos!

We will then move for a young cb from sporting and that is it for this window

Agree4 Disagree7

I doubt sincerely our deal involved Hooiveld or that if we did sign him and another Centre back to replace Hooiveld that would be it for the window because we'd still be looking to bring in improvements. We're still in the market for an attacking midfielder apparently.

Agree2 Disagree2

Celtic also rumoured to be in the frame, so I suspect it stems from a club in financial difficulties trying to generate interest. Doesn't mean it is unlikely to happen but it may be a lot of hype to increase his value.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree2

Gary hooper is better! Silly to let him get away saints could of had a deal if they had taken hooper aswell as big vic? Ideal partner for Rickie!

Agree2 Disagree6

So, we've come to the point where some fans will take just ANYONE, to get a striker. Chill out NC/MP will sort it out. And Jos is not leaving. Wishful thinking at best.

Agree2 Disagree4

I don't think it's that we would take anyone, I think it's more to the point that we started off with being named alongside every striker for sale and not in the world. Now, we have nothing.
We have no new attacking options from midfield or up front and even if we did get anyone, they are going to need time getting up to match fitness and bonding with the team.
The season is getting close and everything has gone dead other than the few confirmed by the club as being of interest, have all but vanished.
This while every other team gets new options up front.
Our biggest problem last season was lack of goals and out playing teams only to try and walk it into the net.
I and many others cannot see this changing unless something drastic happens.

Agree6 Disagree2

"Every other team gets new options up front"?

Oh no they don't! So, Spurs sign a striker but lose Bale-same with Liverpool-even worse at Man U.

"Everything has gone dead"?

Has it really? NC tell you that?

What a load of tosh. It is a good job our club don't dive for the panic button like you do. The last pieces of the jigsaw are important and the club will take its time to get it right.

Saint Martin

Agree4 Disagree4

^^ every other team gets new forwards. Really?
I think Utd and Gunners fans might disagree with you there.

We'll get what's right, at the right price and when it's right for selling club, the player, the players family, the players agent, the players advisors and us.
Oh and the selling club have a replacement ready. Yeah those negotiations must be a doddle, can't understand these delays. get a grip. Look at where we were just a few years ago and be greatful.
This is bigger than just signing anyone and everyone - give NC the credit and patience he deserves.
Stussy

Agree3 Disagree2

Agree with you but there is loads of time yet. am pleased that saints are now looking for a certain profile when purchasing. That is the way forward for us. We need players who are going to fit into our style of play we will not be lumping it up to the big unit. Be patient and let's get behind the team it will tough this season even after we have made the signings we need.

Everybody has loads of cash to spend so those who make the astute signings will be best placed at the end of the season.

Agree2 Disagree1

Is there any substantive talk out there at all regarding potential Saints signings? It's all gone very quiet over the past week or so, and I'm starting to get concerned. Surely after that relatively toothless performance against Celta Vigo, our need for a top quality striker must have been confirmed in the eyes of MP and NC!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Look when you play 20 players in one match you are not taking the game that seriously. It is a way of giving all the players game time and getting match fitness. I think we need another striker but let's criticise if required at about 5 o'clock on the 17th after the West Brom game, Poch is nobody's fool he will get it right.

Agree6 Disagree5

It's ok moaning after the west brom game but what would that achieve? Nothing! We've left it to late chasing silly transfers why the clubs around us have bought up all the target we should of been after?

Agree5 Disagree4

Why the bleading hell are people continually moaning and going on about dam strikers?

Yes it would be nice to get an extra one to help out with rickie, but for the love of god if the ball doesn't make its way to the strikers then what do you expect.

If you got van persie in the saints team and never got the ball or did to far out he wouldn't score either, does that mean he is rubbish? NO.

The list of strikers that we have are as follows: TL, RL, JR, EM, BS, GDP,. 6 St's give or take a few positions that if put up front and had more than 45 mins a game would build in confidence and would score.

No one knew about Luke Shaw before he came in now look at him and how good he is. My point is Mayuka hasn't been used much and he showed us on Pre-season when he got a decent chance he scored, give hiom more game time and build his confidence we may not need one.

That to one side do people really think a new ST like Damiao or osvaldo etc would hit the ground running if they didn't have the service? They really wouldn't. GR was quality for his previous team has he done the same for us no, will he? probably but it comes with patience and time.

And seriously are people going to start moaning if we lose our first game of the season, who the hell do we think we are? We aren't the best of the best ( Man u, Man c, Chel, etc) by any stretch and we will sometimes lose but it doesn't mean let's get on MP's back and think that's it season over.

No matter what we need to support our team, trust in MP who has kids availble who look very exciting and the confidence and excitement will come.

Getting in a top striker who according to his stats scores a lot doesn't automatically mean he will for us and because we get one in doesn't mean he will automatically get us up the table.

Agree4 Disagree4

Totally agree. We have been trying to punch above our weight with signings and have been left surprised when they won't come

Agree4 Disagree4

"Chasing silly targets"?

Don't think so. If you want to believe all the media and agents say, well, that is your choice. But the club IMO know exactly what they are doing and that will be revealed when deals have been concluded.

Saint Martin

Agree6 Disagree4

Sorry but we have excellent service to our strikers. We had loads of chances last season and we were pretty wasteful. Even Lambert made some howlers towards the end of the last season which he is excused because of the amount he did get and the fact we stayed up.

Agree3 Disagree1

Why do you imply that our current strikers didn't have the service? We have the best part of 20 attempts a game is quite a few fixtures, Norwich springs to mind, and we could put the ball in the net for love nor money. I'm sure we have good young players that will come good over the next few seasons but we do need a 20 goal a season player now if we realistically want to finish pushing for Europe. I feel we have a very good squad but do lack that cutting edge when going forward.

Agree3 Disagree1

Sorry to say but Adam Lallana was top of the list for missing chances or not having a go. Great talent but no finishing skills.

Agree6 Disagree0

These guys must be watching a different team! We've made loads of scoring opportunitys? Chances made to goals scored was and still is woeful check your stats!

Agree3 Disagree1

So Adam has part of a season (how much did he play?) in the EPL and suddenly he has "no finishing skills!"

Get real. Not every player comes into the EPL and takes it by storm. It takes some time for players to adapt, some manage it quicker than others. Most of the Saints squad has similar experience (or lack of it) so cut some slack and don't expect instant fireworks-especially with players who have also had to adapt to a new manager and his style of play.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree3

Lallana is a class player who sustained a few injuries throughtout the season. He's still taken the p*** out of a few players this season passed.

Just because clubs have bought in targets doesn't mean they're all going to work out.
QPR weren't expected to go down at the beginning of the season!

Quality centre back was the main thing I thought we needed.
We conceded a lot of goals last season.
Hopefully lovren will be that man.

Would agree another striker would be great.
But I also have faith that lambert has at least 1 more good season in him.
Just because he's in his 30's doesn't mean he needs replacing.
He's not the type of player who welts on pace.

Southampton are interested in signing unsettled Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata. The 20 year old Spanish star is surplus to requirements at Real. Southampton face competition from Tottenham, who want him in a deal for Bale, as well as Valencia and Sevilla.

Believable9 Unbelievable8

What's this? A realistic rumour. What's this doing here.

Agree7 Disagree4

Still probably rubbish

Agree9 Disagree5

He's a great talent. Similar to Damiao too in that he's tall and can hold the ball up as well as being able to finish. Would prefer him to Damiao to be honest.

He'd be half the price and has been prolific at all junior levels of the Spanish national side. Very talented indeed. Hopefully MoPo can pull some strings.

Agree5 Disagree2

Think this is about as realistic as all the other rumours. Ancelotti has said that he'll play games this season for the first team, they don't want to sell him and Tottenham apparently want him as part of any Bale deal.

Agree4 Disagree0

Nowhere on net. Not a genuine rumour. This pure fabrication.

Tweener Saint

Agree2 Disagree4

According to the Brazilian agent of Damaio he doesn't want to join a 'minnows' side like Southampton or even a football 'Giant Club' like Tottenham Hotspur! This is the problem, I have said it before that these players won't come to us because most of them have never heard of us. They want to go the teams in England they grew up hearing about and to be fair that is not their fault.

Agree5 Disagree2

Seems this possible deal is going the same way as the Wanyama deal. NC puts in an fair offer that the club are happy with, then waits for all other suitors to fall away. The likes of Napoli, Roma and B Dortmund have all now signed forwards so the net is closing in on our target.

Agree1 Disagree1

He is holding out for a bigger club. when they don't come calling he has two options play in Brazil or come to England prove yourself and get a bigger deal

Agree1 Disagree0

Could be a great signing he's a good player and has a lot of potential

Agree2 Disagree0

Good job NC knows how to deal with agents, isn't it?!
So, the agent is shaking the trees to see if something better can fall out (that is part of his job). He has not been successful in achieving anything to date and clubs have been looking at his player for over 12 months, so don't assume that he will be anymore successful now.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

If he is holding out for a bigger club now and ends up signing for us towards the end of the window because the mighty Tottenham didn't bid for him then I hope that NC will tell him where to go, we don't want a ore madinna who thinks he is bigger than us signing for us as a settlement. I was excited about him but if what his agent is saying is true then he can sign for city and sit on the bench and watch us beat them next season for all I care

Agree1 Disagree2

Sorry but we signed Gaston Ramirez last season with him holding us until the end of the window in pursuit of better offers.

Agree3 Disagree3

{Ed030's Note - Also when asked why he moved to Southampton he said they are paying me a lot of money or something along them lines. }

Another made up rumour
