According to certain media, Cagliari want more for Davide Astori.
Believable6
Unbelievable3
Not surprising, sounded like we may have tried to be a bit too cheap in getting him. Probably will go for somewhere between 9 and 10 million.
Agree6
Disagree2
We could offer Tommy Forecast as a make weight.
Agree7
Disagree1
Originally he was rumoured to be valued at 10 Million Euro's.
We have bid £8M which works out at about 9.5M Euros, but Cagliary don't want to sell. They are facing serious financial problems, along with potential relegation, However they will accept a bid of £12M - 50% more than our original bid.
Is he worth it? I believe that at 12M he is a little expensive, but could well be worth it if it means our survival in the Premier league this year. The problem with players of this quality is that they are few and far between, and to get these players you have to dig deep.
Every big signing is a huge risk, but these potential signings represent a big statement of intent from Mr Cortese.
Agree2

Is obvious what is going on, we pay less to agents, as a result, they "demand" more money from the selling clubs for getting the move. So Calgary "push up the price" to pay the agent.

Just read a moment ago that Saints' offer is apparently well short of what Cagliari want, but that Astori himself is happy to head to Saints. If prepare for this to drag out, and for us to be without any new signings for the Villa game at this rate.
Is it really 'good business' if we save £1m or so on a transfer, but are left without a quality player for an extra 1-2 matches as a result? I would say no.
Aussie Saint
Believable9
Unbelievable3
But i'd reckon that by 'well short' Cagliari probably mean more than £1 million short. Judging by the summer's window, a lot of deals will take their time and drag out, although I agree that it would be much better to get him and others asap.
IOWSaint
Agree5
Disagree1
Sounds like it'll actually not drag out much more. Interest from other clubs has dropped due to the high asking price they have set so maybe another one or two million would convince them to sell. 9 or 10 million probably could do it.
Agree6
Disagree2
We do forget that we should be beating villa, regardless of new signings!
Agree8
Disagree2
Problem heading into the Villa game is we will be without Lallana and Fonte. If we don't sort it out Hooiveld could make another defensive howler.
Agree2
Disagree4
The same was said about the Ramirez deal, it's normal as both sides want the best deal. The fact that we are talking, and we want him and Cagliari want to sell, means it will happen, but just needs more negotiation.
Agree3
Disagree2
Maybe we should play Martin instead of Hooiveld or Dan

Aussie saint:
£1 million is a large amount of money, especially if correctly invested in youth!
Whilst I agree that we should get our business done quickly, other clubs need to know we will not pay over our valuation of a player.
Agree1

Ausie Saint is right, we should pay a bit extra to get him in earlier and have for the next few games where he'd settle in quicker, I'm glad we're linked to such quality players this is very encouraging!

I appreciate that this isn't much and that some wont believe me anyway but Nicola Cortese has just left the Chairmanship dinner 2 hours early. Has had some paperwork delivered to his office and left instructions that no one not even the cleaner is allowed in. This follows on from Sunday where he left his own daughters party early, met up
With Les Reed and sped off for an in-scheduled meeting.
Things are definitely moving along here and I'm hearing its the Italian player but until they're on the pitch and wearing the shirt nothing's certain.
Believable5

Cortese is probably having to leave to talk to Calgari at the moment as it is proving difficult to sign Astori thanks to their club.

So we have agreed terms with astori but not agreed a deal on the price?
That would mean we have made an illigal approach
Be great to sign him but something doesn't add up
COYR {Ed001's Note - only if the club had not given permission to speak to the player. It is very common for clubs to finalise details with a player before the club, to make sure they aren't wasting their time bidding for a player that will never join.}

The following players are rumoured to be being released by Southampton at the end of this season.
Artur Boruc
Ryan Dickson
Aaron Martin
Jonathan Forte
Danny Butterfield is rumoured to be retiring and moving on to a coaching role working with Martin Hunter on our youth system however will be allowed to listen to offers from other clubs if he so chooses.
This month we may be expecting to sell Steve De Ridder and Danny Seaborne to Championship clubs and Jos Hooiveld may be returning to Holland. The transfer of Seaborne however is more likely to be delayed until the end of the season for Charlton. Final rumoured exit is unfortunately Billy Sharp who may be staying with Forest but this is also unlikely to happen until the summer.
Believable2
Unbelievable8
Martin's contract isn't up until the end of next season, same with Forte, I can't see us paying them off. They'll probably be loaned out again or sold.
Agree2
Disagree1
I want to keep Martin, he still has potential, and I think he could grow into our side in the future, the rest can leave though
Agree1
Disagree1
Well seeing as the NA only recently gave Aaron Martin a new contract it would seem silly to let a young player go, plus i think if the muppet in charge would actualy play him rather than let him out on loan i think he would suit the prem better than the championship, still has bags of potential and deserves his shot at cb long befor that donkey hooiveld. If he is sold then its a shame to see a local lad thrown out of the club when Mr Muppet cant even pick a goalkeeper ! A positiion he played in as well, to all you FANS of Adkins can you not admit his failings. Hope Aaron gets treated fairly by the club.
Agree2
Disagree11
What a blinkered view of Adkins! How on earth do you know who Adkins really wanted to bring in as GK? Perhaps he couldn't secure his No.1 target?
Probably would have liked to have secured Messi as well-oh well, another failing!
Not always easy, you know, attracting top players to a newly promoted club with the media making us one of the probable relegation candidates.
Agree1
Disagree2
How dare you criticise NA he got us 2 promotions in a row. Would we be here without him?
Agree4
Disagree3
The same muppet that got us promoted on two consecutive occasions? Jog on you person!
Agree3
Disagree2
The keeper position is a worry but even fergie doesn't know who his best keeper as he switches between lindergaard and de gea and they cost considerably more than boruc, gazza and Davis. Adkins wants the team to play the right way and build a team around good young exciting players who will only get better. Would you prefer to watch stoke every week? Give the guy a break as the players are starting to adjust now and with the rumoured signings everything is looking ok.
Agree1
Disagree1
I'm sure Aaron will be treated fairly by the club and even if he makes hooiveld errors he will receive my full support. If, however, you truly believe he is the answer to our prayers in central defence then you should re-consider who you are calling a muppet. Perhaps you are right about Adkins though. He ain't achieved much since he's been here, has he?
SaintGazza
Agree3

Adkins is the best thing to happen to Saints since Le Tissier. And NA has every potential to be an England manager in the future...
back to back to promotions mean anything to you.....
Agree5

Not a rumour but a prediction. Within 18 months we will be concerned that Adkins could be lured away by another club because of how successful he has been managing Saints.
Agree1

Not just saints adkins took Scunthorpe up twice in 3 seasons he got back to back promotions with southampton and won bak to back championships with Bangor city. Not bad for a muppet
In Adkins we trust

Source: La Nazione status:vage · According to source, transfer takes place in: Summer

I doubt Ramirez will be leaving so soon after joining on a 4 year deal. He doesn't seem unsettled at Southampton and I really can't see why he'd want to go?
Agree7

Italian press are notorious at stirring up rumours and BS.
He can't go to another club til the end of the season anyway, so no idea why any club would be trying to push something through now, especially seen as he just arrived at Saints and has said he is happy.
Would expect these kind of rumours to circulate in summer, especially if we go down. But if they are coming up now they are likely to be nonsense.

Fiorentina will be waiting in the wings to try an get a bargin should saints get relegated. Thats all.
Italian clubs also seem to be happy to express intrest years before they actually do business, they may be doing the ground work for 4 years time!

Southampton are rumoured to be in for Lee Camp of Nottingham Forest. The keeper's contract runs out at the end of this season so Nottingham Forest may be willing to sell. The deal offered by Southampton apparently includes Kelvin Davis joining Forest.
Believable2
Unbelievable10
Would it not make much sense when we have Billy Sharp going there anyways. SO why would saints let Davis go to
Agree0

Sharp is rumoured to be becoming permanent as a deal. Forest want him to stay and Cortese doesn't really want him to come back. Davis to Forest is to give them a keeper to replace him for the rest of the season.
Agree0

David is very settled in Southampton eg the west ham situation where he declined a move there total bull in my view

I'd rather Davis stayed and Boruc left, tbh, I also think Davies is as good as Camp anyway so wouldn't be much of an improvement

Various Italian news sources are claiming that Southampton have bid £12 million for Coutinho from Inter Milan, with Villa hot on our heels.
Aussie Saint
Believable6

Why are Villa hot on our heels for everybody? £12 million should be enough to take him right? I mean if it's anything more than that then we may as well just go back in for Wellington Nem because I imagine he'd go for £12 million.
Agree6
Disagree2
Can't answer that mate. I guess they're as desperate to avoid relegation as we are. They're not as cashed up though, which should work in our favour.
The concern regarding Astori is that Cagliari are trying to start a bidding war and up his value. The club's valuation from my understanding has jumped from 10-12 million in the last 48 hours.

Good work Aussie. Reputable papers do u think? Would be a great signing.

Astori hasn't attracted a single other bid of 10 million though. Liverpool hit in around 7, Napoli apparently hit around the same mark. I'm not sure their bidding war has worked as saints are still the only ones rumoured to have hit their 10 million asking price.

Believable4
Unbelievable3
Yep, read that. Also read an article saying that reports out of Italy are mixed with one story claiming that Saints and Astori have failed to agree on personal terms.
You know I've got to be honest, I'm not sure NC is as astute an operator as everyone claims. Why is it that a deal for a CB is taking so long. Everyone knew when the transfer window was re-opening. It was no secret to anybody at the club. Nor was the fact that we are in dire need of improvement to our squad. NC and NA have had months to identify targets and make offers, so if something doesn't get sorted before the Villa game I think it will demonstrate a significant lack of expertise and astuteness in the transfer market.
Agree4
Disagree2
He does have a degree of expertise and astuteness in his operations. But he does it to the effect of getting the best price as low as he can manage to. This often means that the deals take longer which is where his area of expertise can let us down a little. Because it means we can be forced to drag out negotiations just to save a few hundred thousand loosing a player for a few matches in the process.
Agree3
Disagree1
Let's face it we won't get either now bigger club involved, like above post said we shouldve had targets in bag already, I also agree n/c penny pinching will cost us deals
Agree1
Disagree3
^^ The reason we take so long is due to NC's astute buisness skills. hence why we spent 33 million but the least in the league on agent fees. you underestimate him greatly, the man was a swiss banker who handled billionaires accounts
Agree5
Disagree0
Got more to do with agents dragging their feet on the deal, publicising the transfer, getting more clubs interested, consequently pushing up the price.
Agree2
Disagree0
"Not sure NC is as astute an operator as everyone claims... everyone knew when the transfer window was re-opening"
The important date isn't when it re-opens, it's when it closes. Be patient, Cortese will get them done before the window closes, that is what is important. We had lots of action at the end of the last transfer window, expect something similar this time round.
Agree3
Disagree2
I think the peeps knocking Cortese are just demonstrating that they are as ignorant of the technicalities in the tf market as i am. The ungrateful whingers seem to have quickly forgotten how much we spent last summer. If i was part of a negotiation team then i would defo want Cortese on my side.

evidence for... sod all,
evidence against...

2.) Clyne for £2m
3.) Davis for 800k
4.) Lambert for £1m within a matter of days really, same for Fonte
5.) The lowest spend on Agent's fees in the league....

David Astori will sign for Southampton within the next 24 hours. Adkins is also looking for another central defender to come in before the window closes after Jose Fonte picked up an injury on the weekend. The latter is believed to be Douglas of FC Twente
Believable6
Unbelievable3
I love this so much. I remember the 'will sign within 24 hours' with Gaston Ramirez. Although I really hope you are correct about that and about taking Douglas off FC Twente as well because he would be superb.
Would also like to see someone else just to flare up the midfield or our attack a little. Not a new striker just a fresh face to keep people going. Maybe an attacking midfielder or winger to compete with players like Lallana and Puncheon.
Agree6
Disagree1
Hearing on here and facebook about philipe coutinho, he would fit the bill perfect! Honestly i think he would go to a club with champions league or uefa cup in there sights not a relegation battle as that would interfere with his international career.
Agree3
Disagree2
He may be buying into the project at Southampton though. I mean he has a chance to develop along side some of the best young players around like Ramirez, Clyne and Shaw. In the long run it could put him in a much better position which may be what he wants. Plus it's a Premiership club that can guarantee first team football to him.
Agree3

This has been said with ramirez before but i think adkins knows how important he is so will get him before villa to play and douglos woukld be gd cover or switching the cbs around at the end of the day we will have great depth in our side with those 2 and what about coutihnio or wellington nem both strongly rumord rther have courtinhio played with players like snjider lucio sameul
