Found out today why Guly gets a look in. He's good mates with Cortese (weekly lunches etc) and a Cortese signing. Can't reveal source but it explains a few things!

Believable15 Unbelievable14

Thats been known for a while

Agree15 Disagree6

He might be good mates with Cortese
but he's no good for or to the team,
hopefully he'll be on his way in the summer, useless Guly not Cortese I mean.

Agree12 Disagree5

Agreed. Chairmen should let the managers decide which players they want to buy in and then simply sign the cheque if funds are available and terms agreed. Seems too many Chairmen select which players to buy nowadays.
Guly is terrible player but sadly will be with us for a while longer as he's not long signed contract extension until 2015.

Agree10 Disagree6

Pochettino does have influence though. Cortese has a lot of faith in his ability as manager and if Poch thinks Guly is not good enough Cortese may allow him to be shipped out.
But Cortese may see it as a pride issue because, let's face it, when we first signed Guly in league 1 it was a huge swoop to get such a player in a low league. Cortese may want to keep him as a sign of his ability as chairman, besides the personal relationship that seems to come through.

Agree8 Disagree1

Guly used to get lift's into training with Cortese, when he was banned.

Agree8 Disagree2

For goodness sake! When are you guys going to get off his back?

1) Ramirez was asked in an interview who was the most technically gifted player at Southampton - he replied Guly.

2) Cortese would get rid of anyone if it could save him more than £2. 50

3) His recent performances haven't been bad, and the chap who sit's next to me in the stadium, who hates Guly has even been clapping him when he has been on the pitch in recent times.

To sum it all up, not everything bad that happens is Guly or Fox's fault, and you'd be far better off supporting the whole team rather than slating them. it's getting very boring.

Agree10 Disagree6

That's your opinion, but everyone's got as much right to an opinion as you, so you feel and think what you want and we'll feel and think what we want.
Personally I think Guly's just not good enough for Saints.

Agree7 Disagree3

I believe that 80% of the bad has been down to Guly and Fox this season (probably 78% Fox) ;)

All jokes aside, Fox is dire - PLEASE GET RID!

Guly looked ok against Reading (at home) and a couple of appearances haven't been too bad - but nothing too good either.

Guly came on against Chelsea with 5 minutes to go (2-1 up) should have been raring to go and throwing his body on the line to see out the win. But he failed to pick up anyone, hovering around like he was knackered and we were 5-0 up - Pochettino was going crazy at him! Then against Reading, he misses a glorious open-goal chance when I had us down for 0-3 at 18-1. I can't forgive that ;)

Guly was a good signing in League 1, but we've simply outgrown him. He doesn't have the time on the ball he needs to decide what it is he actually wants to do and he's always been useless at marking.

Fox was never a good player. If he's worth £10k per week then my nan must be worth at least £500 per week. I 100% disagree with anyone who says he was ok in the Championship. If you actually watch his clueless marking, dire passing, aimless crossing and add that to his reckless tackling, hesitant closing down and generally poor decision making, you'll be just as amazed as me that even a shambles like Scotland would call him up.

Agree7 Disagree1

Clean the excrement from your eyes, guly is useless everytime he puls a football shirt on, quite how he has managed to pass himself off as a footballer for so long is a travesty, he was bellow average in the championship and has cost us atleast 9 points this season six of wich where failing to hit an empty net from as little as 5 yards

st stuie

Agree5 Disagree2

Going off on a tangent, when we brought Fox on in the Chelski game at left midfield and had Shaw at left back, Fox looked far more comfortable than I have ever seen him play. He offered a lot of support for Shaw, and slotted in well to the team.

As for everyone being allowed an opinion, I totally agree. But what I disagree with is fans not supporting our player when they walk onto the pitch. That transfers to the players and makes the situation worse. Guly for me hasn't done anywhere enough to justify his place in the first team squad, but then he's hadly getting a chance to play much is he.

Agree5 Disagree0

I don't actually agree with this "the manager should choose players and the chairman should sign the cheque"

This is how Redknap Works (destroys clubs)

Saints have a team of professional (well paid) scouts, why bother if you leave your recruitment to 1 individuals judgement when they have so much else to deal with?

Agree1 Disagree2

The QPR loss was completely down to Fox. He makes 'ok' forward runs but NEVER tracks back to defend, allowing Remy to score.

Two names once again being touted as potential Southampton signings for this summer now are Wellington (Brazilian, Sao Paolo) and Wellington Nem (Brazilian, Fluminense). Honestly don't see either being likely to sign.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Would be amazed to see either of these sign up, saying that, IF Saints stay up this year (BIG premiership cash bonus)I wouldn't be surprised if a bid for an up and coming Spanish player was made, Iago Aspas could be an option. {Ed003's Note - was it not always a (BIG premiership bonus) the fact the money is going up only means more will go to players and agents}

Agree1 Disagree1

The fact the money being given out to clubs goes up will just mean prices will increase as clubs will be better off and less needing to sell.

Agree0 Disagree1

While the rumor seems doubtful, I hope we sign them both just to see both names on Saints jerseys. We should give them consecutive numbers too.
