Apparently puel is plotting a move for Valerie Germain. Any truth in this eds?

{Ed002's Note - Yes and there have been some talks earlier in the week - it is a hangover from the summer. However Monaco won't sell without a replacement but would be open to letting him go. A bit of an odd choice.}

It shows Puel's complete lack of understanding of the Prem . and in this case, the quality required to succeed.

I starting to think the same, we need a proven goal scorer so badly made some decent chances today but no end product

I wish people would stop thinking if you say we need a proven goal scorer one will just drop out of the sky.

It's mid season who in there right mind would sell a "proven" goal scorer at this point. And when you mean proven surely all goal scorers are proven? Or do they need to have scored a set amount of goals to warrant being looked at? Ridiculous.

honestly the amount of crap I've read makes me ashamed of our own so called supporters. It's easy to say in hindsight what is needed but to actually get it done isn't so. Support the club, that includes everyone in it and let them do there job.

Unless you fancy taking on the job of speaking to clubs and agents and scouting players that would fit seamlessly into our squad without needing anytime to adjust and bang in goals.

Spot on 👆. Every social media post Southampton put up all the comments are negative never any support. After Liverpool result everyone was saying well done puel now calling for his head again after yesterday's result. We do need to bolster the squad but hard window to do that in. All we can attract is fringe players.

All very well and good knocking the supporters for their concerns Romsaint but the fact is they are not just whingers they are just being realistic. When you take Pelle, Mane and Wanyama out of a top six side it was pretty obvious to me we would struggle to score goals. We have nobody in midfield that breaks play up which then releases the forwards through the channels . The reason why Spurs are so successful is because they have Dembele and Wanyama in holding midfield and the creativity of Delli Alli and the firepower of Kane, if you lost those players Tottenham would be bouncing around just above mid table. We lost key players and were not replaced during last summer. It is true that finding players in January is after the horse has bolted and almost impossible . The board should have been aware of the need to bring in quality back then . What they did do was spend a club record fee on an injured player who was going off to the ACN for a few weeks once fit which seemed a bit of a risk to me. Boufal is not a goal scoring forward really he is a creator. If we still had Pelle things may have been different and to rely on a player like J Rod to replace him that had been out for nearly two seasons was simply too risky. I totally understand the supporters frustration over what is happening at St Mary's and once again they are being kept in the dark as to any plans to change things. We should be still in the Europa League and taking at least a 3 goal lead to Anfield but we are'nt and I put the blame on both the board and our current manager. I expect us to put a really weak team out for the return FA Cup tie with Norwich so frankly a season that promised so much will probably end up with nothing but a dogged fight to stay away from the relegation places. We didn't sign up for this scenario when we paid out a lot of money for our season tickets and in my opinion have every right to voice our dissatisfaction about what is happening . I think Puel needs to be replaced now before the situation deteriorates further, no sense bringing someone new in when things have got worse than they are. We need new direction desperately and somehow stop this never ending gravy train as a supply ship to move on our best players to the so called top teams. I would be interested to know how many points we will get out of the next 8 games, have you seen the fixture list? Apart from Swansea very scary . Call me what you want but to me true supporters are entitled to show their concerns and concerned I am.

Well said Chris, board got complacent in summer and somewhat arrogant and complacent will end in 1 thing, sshh 'R word' maybe not this season but carrying on as we are minus vvd in the summer possibly minus more, bertie, cedric, romeu. You can't blame them for the club having no ambition but to remain somewhere above bottom 3 in epl, this could've been the greatest season in saints history and our stock was very high in the summer but due to Les's masterclass of a cheap puppet manager choosing his own players it's royally gone down the pan, being such an egomaniac I can't see Reed sacking Puel as that would be an admission of failure on his part, what I do know if Cortese was here (yes I don't agree with all he done) we may have slightly more debt which IS manageable with huge TV money but we would be also be looking to consolidate or push on not regress

Les Reed has already stated that Claude needs time so time he will get. A ball winning midfielder that links up play like Romeu or clasie or Davis or jwp. You can't compare us to Spurs as we don't have the money or resources to compete with the likes. If you want to be realistic then consider us a mid table team that has been punching above our weight. Yes we've sold players that would of helped us in the situation we're in now. It's not always going to be that way and we all knew that. The club thought we could get by with what they bought in the summer. It hasn't worked and we've suffered the coulees of the Europa league, same as Everton, Spurs everyone else that has been in it. Fulham is a good example. its all well and good spouting your opinions on here but nagativity breeds negativity, and it's been seeping into the stadium for months which isn't helping the confidence of the team. Positive mental attitude guys. COYR

I sort of agree romsaint bar it's a acm we desperately need someone who'll get 10 goals 10-15 assists not another ball winner. You mentioned Fulham yes a good example, where are they now, this is what we need to be wary of, 2 signings is probably all it will take until one of our cb's goes then 3 signings, I've no problem playing championship other least it gets rid of the superstar refs, ego players, astonishing wages etc but what a shame it would be if all our hard work has been let go by some blind stubborn judgment by the board

Well Les Reed is wrong then. Have you any idea how potential relegation could affect our club . There is absolutely no reason I can think of that would put us in this situation other than bad decisions made by the board. The manager was appointed and for a while was riding the post Koeman train along with the pundits. The pundits keep saying every week that we'll be OK, I'm not so sure. The manager has been found out to be one dimensional and very stubborn regarding this crazy rotation system. The club is heading towards a crisis unless a very unlikely miracle happens.

It's hard to keep defending the club and our manager after we've taken 25 goals from the squad and not realistically replaced them. We have the second worst attack in the league after Middlesbrough. Take away our solid defence and we would be in a relegation battle. I'm behind Puel and the board but you can't help and say we need a solid striker.
Longs underperformed this season and say what you want about him but I've never rated him. He was missing sitters last season and hasay just been awful.
Jay Rod - can't help but feel sorry for him. He'd be class if he hadn't of got that long term injury. But because of that he doesn't have the quality to below to a top 7 team.
Remond - nowhere near the quality of Mane. I know the club were looking at him for a while. So we probably would have tried to get him even if we hadn't sold Mane
Austin - injury prone. Not as good as Pelle
I mean I know that Pelle and Mane would both have long goal droughts last season. But this team lacks quality offensively

Romsaint, and there was me thinking it was a fan's forum. I'm a Saints fan by the way. As Chris pointed out we have equal measure in opinion. But since you raised the question "proven" refers to EPL proven and yes I'd say someone who has a good goals to games ratio rather than 2 or 3 in a season - it's a spectrum - in response to some of the rumours flying around about poor quality forwards we have been linked to.

I suggest if you don't like what other people are writing, and are not tolerant enough to accept it "as a differing opinion" rather than 'crap' as you call it, then there are other options. We all make equally valid comments on this forum, but the most valid ones are the ones that debate in a mature and friendly way

Best wishes to ALL saints fans

I think the overall concern was puel saying he was happy with his squad. Whether a goalscorer falls from the sky or is plucked from the black box we need goals and we need belief because its obvious the players are as disjointed as we are with the situation.

And I know this will receive the usual "careless spending" and future of the club crap but the club is being run with an income of today but wages of yesterday. if we can't afford to say no to these offers for players or pay decent salaries on today's market then how do you sell that future to anyone?

I see clubs bigger and smaller than us paying decent fees for decent players on decent wages and I think why not us. we must of made more money than any of the clubs around us in proportion.

Willsasaint I think you'll find it's a Southampton rumours site. So not really the place to continuously be slating the manager, players etc etc. Everyone is entitled to opinions but come on let's move on and start talking rumours of players not slating the manager, who is far more experienced and qualified for the job than anyone on here
