Just by the fact that Vertoghen is out for 3 months, any chance of us getting Wimmer has ended.

& that will see them come in for Foster

You missed a great opportunity to end with "uh huh huh"

God job Foster plays for West Brom then.

why would they come in for fonte when the have dier and wimmer and alderweireld he wants a 3 year deal minimum and big money. hardly following the Tottenham model. much as I hate to admit it they are the real deal this year and even with Kane/ Alderweireld and Lloris injured at times are the biggest threat to chelsea can see why big VIC who has been immense for them went there. will we ever have the same ambition? its not even money as VIC on 55,000-60,000 which we could of paid. sad to see them push on and us stagnate

Seems the Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira agrees with you on ambiton and stagnating. He's reportedly said that he has no interest in signing for Southampton, a side with 'no championship ambitions'.

the fact the fee is 4.5m rumoured would indicate he has hardly set the world alight himself. Championship? without a striker we could be heading there so he is incorrect on that score as well.

Why would Fonte want go to West Ham? We are better than them and will finish higher than them. I don't understand him. If he has fallen out with Puel then the club should build some bridges at least until the end of the season. He won't get the big move he is after so what's the point. '! We won't be letting him go anyway unless we get a replacement in which is looking unlikely.
Ed what is the up to date situation on finding a replacement for Fonte?

{Ed002's Note - Wimmer won't be allowed to leave Spurs and Sakho is available - but for sale not loan.}

As much as it pains me to say it Guernseyboy West Ham are a bigger club financially and are showing more ambition then us. Fonte has, above all others at the club, watched all of the key talent that he has played with and been teammates with leave the club every year that he has been here.
That fact alone must be totally demoralising for him.
Career pay day maybe but I would suggest a certain amount of frustration too has caused his decision.

Totally agree and I'll have a bet with anyone that irons will finish higher than us unless we suddenly drop this rubbish sideways/ backwards football, teams have already sussed us out, Burnley perfect example and Leicester played counter attacking football all last season and they've been Sussed should be interesting Sunday to see who brakes the mould first

Thanks cyprussaint and Stmarks. But West Ham are pretty bad too. Look how they capitulated to city recently. Nor can they keep Payet happy. Fonte won't win anything including silverware there. It's a sideways move at best. Shame but there it is. I assume though we must have another defender lined up to replace him otherwise we don't have enough cover for the league.

there's some reports (speculation of course) that Puel may look to Stephens and Gardos for cover with Maya and Virgil first choices (if there is such a thing with the current rotation system), I hope this isn't accurate

{Ed002's Note - One thing they have done is said to an interested side that van Dijk will not be available during this window.}

Agree sideways move at the moment but being in the new stadium and ambitious oweners it must seem that their doing everything we're not

It's never about silverware all about the money always the money

Agreed Guernseyboy (can't believe I'm agreeing with you considering I'm originally from the proper channel island Jersey) . Fonte will win nothing at West Ham and I'm pretty sure his agent had talked him up that an offer was in from a top club.
Not sure about replacement. Looks like Gardos is number 4 in the pecking order and I always thought he would be a regular for us.
As usual we will leave anything we do to the last minute.

Fonte's nothing but a money grabber, so good riddance hope he'll be very happy at his new top 6 side . Spoilt a good legacy at saints because he thinks he's better than SFC
