Why is it that saints can't afford to pay out big wages when they can pay ca ceres up to a 1,000,000 and NOT play him that an extra 20,000 a week to someone who we want to keep? PLAY HIM.

I get the drift. we have a top centre back warming the bench and it's a waste of money and resources not to play him. I agree.

I believe that the appearance fee is much higher than what you have quoted and his wages are a lot lower. Try literally swapping your figures! He signed for free on a shoe string wage to keep himself fit and linked to a club. We signed him for free and on a low wage to fill a gap of a sultry necessary, hence his large appearance fee. That's how I see it, may be wrong but it would explain why he isn't getting a game.

He's apparently on 65k a week, which would put his total earnings at about 1.2 mil by the end of his contract.

However, I think that includes appearance fee's and bonuses etc, it's probably nearer 20k a week guaranteed pay he's getting (which would put him in line with Hesketh and about 8k a week less than Reed)

It's possible we're not playing him because A) he's not fit enough and there's no point in paying him appearance fee's etc if he's going to be cr*p, B) He's actually looking good and the club are trying to give him as long as possible to recover from the injury, whilst possibly keeping his ability a secret so he can be signed with little to no competition in the summer or C) Jack Stephens and Yoshida are ahead of him on merit and fully deserves their places, even if he is out earning them.

A player of his class fit or not would not just warm the bench in sunny Southampton for low or no wages he's a well known skirt chaser and flares ladies in town ain't that much of a pull.

We've let in a few goals last couple of games but I think we're preparing for life without Vvd. The more experience the two get together the better. We all have to remember we're not top 6 on a financial level the two aren't doing a terrible job. I think foster was made to look good over the last few seasons and it pains me to say it because I ranted and rated him but I think he is becoming a weak link for us. He's prone to mistakes he didn't have to make with more quality defenders in front of him. Yoshida and Stephens have done ok. Not great but not bad but we're lacking a top centre back and a keeper with confidence right now.

Please, your comments lower the I. Q of the entire damn forum. Caceres was signed as depth, quite clearly, after we were forced into the sale of Fonte and VVD was injured. The plan was always for him to be our 3rd cb, and that's what he is. I wonder if you'd be so furious at this small, prudent investment if Stephens and/ or Yoshida had been injured. The HOPE was always that Caceres wouldn't be needed, but you don't plan for what you hope could happen.
