Pleased with the transfer business so far, the question that remains is - What are we going to do regarding Strikers/ Forwards?

Shane Long - would only warm the bench, if we can sell, let's sell. Depreciating Asset.

Charlie Austin - Slow and injury prone, good Championship standard, nobody has come in for him to my knowledge.

Gabbiadini - If he gets support would score goals, our signings this year would help.

Redmond - Too Goby, he could have an argument in a one legged arse kicking competition, would need to improve dramatically

Sam Gallagher - for me, he could make it, big strong and fairly fast should stay not go out on loan again.

So the Options

Danny Ings - like him a lot, but he is so injury prone, him and Charlie could watch a lot of football in a season!

Alcacer - Barcelona Boy, probably as good as is available, but after Carillo, the Black Box better be tuned in!

Who would anybody else suggest, assuming - two go - two new faces?

Looking forward to a great season this year, very positive.

Someone in a similar style to Austin. Will Grigg.
If you know where the goal is, you'll score, as Austin and Hardy and Ian Wright have proved.
Agree with your summary, especially re Sam Gallagher.

Bas Dost and Michail Antonio.

Have been on about Bas Dost for 2 seasons not happened yet, unfortunately not going to happen ever . My mind would be ideal.

not Antonio, one season wonder.

How on earth could you rate Austin, who scored well over 15 goals in the top flight for a poor team who eventually got relegated, championship standard but decided that Sam Gallagher, who's season best record is 11 goals in the second tier, is rated higher than him.

Damian - Who has rated anybody higher than anybody else? You can use a simple goal count! Sam Gallagher actually played fairly well even for Pochetino, his dad died. that's the reason that he went backwards for a while, and then Koeman never included him.
He is the future, a good target man, Saints have suffered since Lambert and Pelle because it suited our style. All of the "Fluffy" players Redmond, Boufal and even Gabbiadini great to watch for 5 minutes every other game, but we need solid, consistent performances. Charlie Austin is injury prone and a bi in my opinion, but he does know where the back of the net is!
Do you think we are okay on Strikers?

Pete I think you were referring to my comment and not Damian's so let me try to present my case: You spoke negetively about Austin and claiming he is championship standard yet spoke highly of Sammy G (who I too would like him to flourish) who didn't even reach double digits in the championship last season (the very low bar you've set for Austin earlier) . I am not talking about strikers I am just referring to the inconsistencies in your remarks.

Pretty sure we signed up Gallagher on a 5 year deal either last season or season before. I'm sure if he is able to do the business we will give him every opportunity to. but I still don't think he is ready to lead the line yet, so another loan away will benefit him.
For me, we need a target man type and a number 10. who is out there that would improve us and who we can afford?

Vick his 15 goal season for QPR must have been about 5 years ago now? Many injuries since, and based on what I saw last season he doesn't have quite the same eye for goal that he had then.

By your logic we should sign Michu up because he had that great season for Swansea.

Hi Vick

If only Charlie Austin wasn't so slow, not only that but he seems to get injured fairy easily which is such a shame. There is a reason why he was only £4 million when we bought him I suppose.

Sam could make it, but at the moment all of our strikers are COULD rather than WILL. Nobody comes knocking for Charlie or Shane, Gabbiadini could find teams in Italy and Sam has Championship sides seeing his worth.

What would we give for a Sir Ricky Lambert, able assisted by Sir Matt Le Tissier, with the rest of our players we would have a monster team.
Im still confident that the Board and our Black Box will find us a gem.

I never said Austin is the answer to our striker problems, I am merely stating out what I perceive to be inconsistencies in Pete's original post regarding his remarks on Austin and then Gallagher's.

Although in hindsight saints123 now that you mentioned it I can see the flaw in my argument.
Pete If I'm not mistaken he was 4 mils because he was going to leave on a free in 6 months at that time and before that rumours earmarked him to be valued at around 14-20mils. The biggest problem with Charlie is that he can never string 10 games together. He's so injury prone and never found his rhythm last season and add to that the dire football we played where we absolutely starved our strikers. But he is hardly championship standard, ability wise, at least to me. I'd welcome any potential new strikers coming in though.

I'd like to see Obafemi given a shot. He's got pace to burn and knows where the goal is!
