Our current situation shows just how shocking recruitment has been in recent years. We're stuck with average players we paid too much for like Hoedt and Carillo or others with a bad attitude like Austin and Lemina.
I would have liked to see Lemina fight for his place but if he's given up would rather see him go.
Boufal has all the skill but little end product and no consistency so he'd be better off with a mid table team in a less competitive league like France or Spain.
If these 5 are on an average wage of £50k with 3 years to run we'd only save £9m if we gave them away so I can understand the club wanting fees. it's really frustrating to see them blocking recruitment when we clearly need a CB, a back up LB and maybe a creative CM.
I'm praying for some exits in the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, this is the issue we're faced with. We've bought in these players and given them very good wages. Players like Carillo, Hoedt and Austin aren't good enough for the Premier League, so they'll have to take a massive pay cut to move elsewhere. Why would they? If they know they're not going to be playing football, they can just be half-arsed and get paid their money. This is one of the problems with modern-day football, the players have all of the say because you can bet if Austin was our best player and the top teams were in for him, he'd try to force a transfer out.

Surely, clubs should look to do something to stop this from happening, like a pay to play wage. If players play then they earn the big money if they don't have the right attitude then pay them a lower wage.

I do feel like the only rash transfer we've made over the past few seasons is Carillo, I just think that the rest haven't worked out as well.

I share the frustration, the issue with pay as you play is players want security if injured or lose form, other clubs are already ahead of us on wages, so by having pay as you play we would be less appealing. I do feel for the club, 99% of us really wanted to sign a striker when Carrillo joined, but when it doesn’t work out we are not happy as we can’t make further signings with him on the books. That’s the issue with a panic buy, which I suspect he was and on advice from MP2.

For every mane, vvd etc there will be at least a couple Carrillo’s unfortunately. I do agree with you however, our scouting has declined in recent years. I am excited about this summers signings though!
