Happy new season everyone, still the same old saints seventy percent possession and we still lost, did anyone else notice where walker peters was when zaha scored, he looks good going forward but surely his first responsibility is to defend, maybe we need another right back and play him further forward. interesting fact we have only won twice in twenty two years on the opening day.

I don't think KWP positioning is his own fault for the first goal. These are the tactics that Ralph wanted to play and I think he got it wrong. We looked at getting the fullbacks high, into space and switching the ball to them.

The problem was because we were so comfortable in possession during the game, the fullbacks would have thought there was no problem with pressing up the pitch, a sloppy mistake gives the ball away and all of sudden you've got Palace on the front foot.

It's disappointing that basic mistakes continue to cost us valuable points, but I don't think there is a solution to this.

Hopefully that's got a few cobwebs out of the system. I have to say that when I saw that our opening fixture was against Palace I almost expected us to take 3 points especially when looking back on the way the 2 teams finished last season. I must say that I thought that Saints looked disinterested and lethargic at times which is very unusual since Ralph came in.

We must not return to the days of Romeu being on the team sheet. I agree he upped his game end of last season. But only in that he started to move the ball quicker and more positive. His tackling is atrocious bordering on amateur, his positional play is terrible and tracking his man is almost non existent often resulting In lunging tackle or drag back of his man. Jack Stephens - where was the Jack we raved over end season? Non of his possession play, darting runs? He looked very, very slow and lethargic!

As for Redmond phew absolutely not improved in two seasons. Runs into trouble, poor passing, poor vision . in fact I have no idea what he brought to the team at all! Which makes letting Boufal go even stranger; he is the one player who can change a game completely .

Overall, very poor first half, much sharper second half.

Definitely an AM and CM short. Hopefully Djenepo returns to the side he is such a livewire and I’m convinced he’d be lethal with Danny to polish off the chances he’d create.
