Realistically, all things aside, Ings going for £25-30m is good business for one year left on his contract and reaching 30. Now it's down to what we do as we HAVE to get one or two strikers.

Realistic options outlined below, I may have missed some;

Adam Armstrong (Blackburn) - would cost £15-18m, championship, unproven, would he bang them in? It's a risk for that money, and we could do better for less I feel.

Divock Origi (Liverpool) - maybe £10-12m, has played in the PL, has done well when he has played but won't get game time at Liverpool. Wages may be a sticking point but if we got him and another, then yes. Maybe add Minamino in the deal for £25m all in?

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea) - £25m, wants £130k wages, big issue, maybe £100k and we could grab him. No one else seems to want him except West Ham, probably the best value for money option with experience and proven goal scoring ability in the league.

Odsonne Edouard (Celtic) - around £20m, we have good history with Celtic, but again a risk for the kind of money we'd have to spend.

I feel like we are going to break our transfer record this month. Was Ings at £20m. Exciting - and potentially terrifying - few weeks ahead.

Werner - loan to buy. Worked with Ralph before.

Embolo or Weghout?

Would love to get Embolo. Still has 2 years left on his contract with Monchengladbach but they only paid £9m for him so could be available at a reasonable price.

Of those Embolo is the only realistic one and even then I don’t think he’d come here, same with Schick and Weghorst. They’re in Europe and at the right end of their respective leagues and won’t be on massively higher wages here.

Latest gossip is now centred on Abraham, Sorloth, Armstrong. Only Abraham of those will do. Spend £25m. Give him 100k a week. He scores goals and will be worth £40m+ in a year if he stays fit.

Let’s hope we can go all out and get Abraham in. Proven PL goal scorer and a fringe England player too.

{Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen I am afraid.}

Apart from Armstrong is there anyone else we’re seriously looking to move for currently Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Southampton have asked for Abraham on loan but he won't be moving to Southampton. There was interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta but he is no longer and option. So right now Armstrong is the primary target.}

One good season in the Championship and he’s our only chance? I feel we were in this space when we brought in Che. Great Championship season, but he’s taking his time to settle into the PL. Thankfully, Ings was there to take the burden. Hopefully, Armstrong can hit the ground running or Che (or Tella) can start to be the player we all believe he (they) can be.

If Armstrong is the only attacker we get in we are down already.

At absolute best:
Adams 12 goals, Tella 5 goals, JWP 8 goals, Armstrong 6 goals, A Armstrong 10 goals, plus probably another 10 from defence and subs. That’s barely scraping 40. And we won’t be conceding fewer than 60 goals.

I wonder if Messi would want a project? He’s suddenly available.

I am surprised that a number of posts are suggesting selling Ings is good business bearing in mind age and injury. The only way that makes any sense is if we have someone with a proven PL goal scoring track record lined up and good to go.
Otherwise, we are off loading a 20 goal a season asset who could keep us in the PL and taking a punt. Staying in the PL is worth 60 odd mil a season, therefore cashing in on Ings makes no sense.
