So Prowse has signed a contract extension?
On what performances has he merited this?
Yes he's been loyal
Yes he's played god knows how many games in a row .
But his midfield contribution is dire .
Does this mean he might actually play the number 8 position .

Mmmm. Rich. I think it might be the 8 goals and 7 assists last season?

I have this horrible feeling that we may be facing that lot down the road next season. They’re flying 3 games in and we are yet to get off the ground (I’m scratching my head as to where and when the first points are coming from) .
I was hoping Villa would come in with enough money to prise JWP so that we may rebuild the midfield engine room but that’s been blown out of the water by a new 5 year contract - why?
Let’s hope that United don’t bring their A game Sunday. Maybe Ralph will save some of the ‘best’ players for Newport 😜.

The new Contract for JWP has both Plusses and Minuses. +1 Deserves recognition for his outstanding Club service. +2 Provides reasonable ability if played further forward. +3Signals stable Club environment to prospective signings +4 Promotes stability whilst Ralph wrestles team selection/ substitution shortfall criticisms. +5 Experience/ knowledge passed on to Youngsters. -1 Prevents clean sweep of replacing complete Midfield. -2 If continually played too defensively-not good enough. -3 Not quick enough at 26 yrs. what to expect at 31yrs? -4 If form regresses-Club will be contracted to high wages regardless for 5 yrs. (similar to Forster wages debacle) . -5 Due to justify high wages paid out may remain selected at the detriment of flourishing Youngsters promotion. However all signed up now so we have to find More Positives! KOM.

how can anyone think JWP isn't one of the only 8/ 10 on the pitch week in and out new contract rewards his efforts and means if someone comes knocking price is reflected by his contract. should he want to go or we want to sell him we won't be short of admirers. no similarity to forster at all.

more importantly where is vestergaards replacement.

Some valid points Johnnyst but I don’t really buy into the loyalty one. It’s hardy a Le Tiss brand of loyalty who was courted by much bigger clubs than Villa and was a genius on the pitch (main reason why we stayed up in the 90’s) .
Furthermore, loyalty is an interesting term within the context of football - I’m sure most of us would be loyal to our employers if we were drawing £60K - 70K upwards a week!
But I do agree that we have to make the best of it although I cherish the day I see JWP take on a player and beat him (with the ball🤣) .
Here’s to Sunday .!

He sure as hell wasn’t 8/ 10 at Everton last week - believe me, he was barely 6/ 10 and infuriated many fans around me by his obsession with passing backwards.
Hopefully 9/ 10 Sunday eh? 😇.

you can only pass forwards if you trust those in front. most seem to think redmond/ walcott and djenepo end most of our moves? would like to see armstrong and diallo playing sunday offer more cover and allow him to push up a bit. bednarek in for stephens and forster in for mcarthy.

I agree totally about what you say re: most of our attacks are broken up by the awful trio of Djenepo, Walcott and Redmond … but if JWP plays so deep and spends his time passing back and sidewards, then who will make that key pass, cross to our forwards?
He rarely plays defence splitting passes, he rarely plays over the top balls, he rarely runs with the ball, he rarely goes round people …
So how do we use JWP and his obvious excellent ability with a ball?
I’m guessing I’ve answered my own question … give him better players to pass to! And he must stop playing so deep.
