Half full or half empty .?
I looked at the PL table this morning through fresh eyes - played 10 and (only) lost 3. Now to be fair, that doesn't sound too bad.
Another way of looking at the table is that we've played 10 and (only) won 2. That sounds a whole lot worse.
Without counting chickens 2 more wins (Villa home and Norwich away) and we'd be thinking about getting our 'stop the count' shirts out.

Looks bad on paper. But we've played 4 of the top 6 from last season. And only lost 1 of them (with a man sent off) . We probably deserved more from the Newcastle, Wolves and Burnley match. 2 points out of a possible 9 against these teams, and we had 58 shots across these 3 games with an average of over 60% possession in these games. So we need to be more clinical.

Bang on about need to be more clinical - watching the missed chances last night on MoTD was jaw dropping. It’s probably fair to say our forwards haven’t peaked too early ????.
Another way of looking at the PL table is that a quarter of the way through the season, we’ve lost 2 fewer games than Spurs and lost the same amount of games as Man U, Arsenal and Everton all of which goes to prove absolutely nothing!

Looking at matches in isolation, draws with United, City, West Ham are excellent. 3 points gained. Draws with Newcastle and Burnley four points dropped. Losing to Wolves at home, and Everton and Chelsea away are realistically 3 points dropped.

We should have five wins, but when are Saints ever that clinical. We should probably have lost four or five as well, so overall it’s an okay start.

The key metric is how we did in those exact ten fixtures last season (replace Watford (2nd in Ch) with WBA (2nd bottom last year) ;

2021-22: W2 D5 L3 F09 A12 11pts
2020-21: W1 D2 L7 F13 A24 05pts

So better defensively, goals still hard to come by, but being harder to beat. Absolute minimum of four points from the next two needed, and we will be safely mid table near the end of November.
