Again not a rumour but...

I've been wondering who the fans think is the best player at the club. I have nominated 4 players and given reasons for each nomination. If you think another player should be nominated comment their name and the reason why you think they are the best. Please comment your pick of the four nominated as well.

Adam Lallana - He is a versatile player. He can play all the way across the midfield and has a good presence in front of goal. He is a solid playmaker and is a key part in setting up attacks.

Nathaniel Clyne - Although he has not been a saint for long he has already shown his pace and control down the right wing. He has a good ability to push forward and support attacks. Further more he is solid in the defence and can tackle very capable players.

Richard Lambert - An obvious nomination. He is a goal machine. He has shown he has many ways to score in his arsenal. He is good in the air and has a strong ability and presence in front of goal.

Kelvin Davis - He has been a key part of Southampton's promotion to the Premiership. This keeper has made top quality saves over the past few seasons. In some games being the sole reason Southampton have not conceded.

Currently Lallana is the best.

Potentially Clyne.

i personally dont think we need a RM/RW because we have Guly Do Prado and Steve De ridder who are both quality players and they will wreck the premier league, Guly with his unbelievable skills and Steve with his amazing pace

Believable3 Unbelievable5

De ridder lacks control and final ball as for guly if he links up with clyne as well as they did v ajax then hell yah!!

Agree3 Disagree1

Guly has the ability to be a good prem player as he will get more time on the ball than last year which will suit him. But De Ridder is fast, that is all, he tends to faff with he ball and loose possession doing so and his final ball is abysmal.

I think both of them are half-good players but not the finished product.

Guly - great skill but no pace.
de Ridder - great pace but lacking in skill

They were ok in the championship but might need to be a bit more well-rounded to thrive in the prem. They deserve a chance, no doubt, but a back up wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if we have the funds available.

I see de ridder set up a few goals last season and in the prem with more time and space i believe he will be more dangerous guly can be class to

Omg . some people are praiseing guly .. only 2 weeks ago the majority of people were saying how bad he will be in the premier leauge. so i thank you for saying hes quality :) - chris

Ok folks...get real. I am a Southampton fan through and through and some of the stuff on here is ridiculous. I think some fans are gonna be in for a rude awakening once the season kicks off.

We are gonna be struggling all season to stay up. We will be lucky if we make it out of the bottom 5 or 6 all season. 17th will be the mark of a good season. Next season though we may be able to build on that.

Truth is loaning Aaron Martin out looks insane now when we clearly didn't have anybody lined up to replace him. Or if we did its fallen through.

It does seem like some of our rumoured targets were a little fanicful. Theo Walcott? What?!?! Lol

Holding out for players like that is a bit of a gamble. But I suspect there are some players we're after who are waiting to see whether bigger, more established clubs come in for them. If not then they may still join us on deadline day. NA and NC play the long game with transfers. Just look at Sharp and Rodrigues.

Let's remember please that buying players is not like buying fruit at the supermarket! You can't just go in, pick what you want, pay at the checkout and hey presto! This isn't FIFA 12!

We are 3 or 4 players away from a lower-mid-table side...but I think we could survive on what we have. So yeah, keep it real and keep the faith. :)

COYR!

Believable5 Unbelievable6

Personally I think sending Aaron Martin out was the right thing to do, we probably will still sign a new Centre back I imagine they had many options for who to get and I'd be surprised if we don't see one join in the next 2 weeks.

Agree3 Disagree0

Actually we did enquire about theo walcott and adam johnson. nicola cortese confirmed the johnson intrest on loan but didnt go anywhere. and they did ask about theo walcott and we were given a price of £15 million, but the £100k p/week is the problem , plus walcott said himself that he wants to sign new contract with arsenal

Agree1 Disagree0

Get real - we have been too slow to even catch a cold- will you still be so patient at Christmas when we are staring up at the other 19 teams??

Agree1 Disagree1

I doubt Southampton with the current squad would be looking up at 19 other teams. The squad probably has one of the strongest attacks around. The weakness in the defence is a problem but with Kelvin between the sticks that is considerably less so. I imagine we'll be looking up at 16 teams maximum by Christmas. Some teams are looking a lot worse off than we are. (Not the only club feeling left out on signings).

Yeovil cant afford dickson , so thats out the question. gary johnson has said on yeovils official website a month ago that hes been priced out of a move - chris

Agree0 Disagree0

Its only clubs that have beeh linked with those olayers

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I'd expect one or two more to depart than that. I mean some younger players may leave to loans or players like Dean Hammond may depart on a permanent basis cause his future has been questioned by a few.
