Southampton still are trying to sign Leandro Damiao, Ever Banega.
Who do you think we will sign?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Both of them hopefully!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope both, banega would be my first choice because lambert will still score next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Think that both of them said 'no thanks' along with Osvaldo, but then so did Victor or at least his Agent did.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't get either IMO, I don't think Damiao is worth the price they're asking for and as class as his Banega is, filling that position is not a priority as we need a striker, someone who can play on that left and right side of our attack and probs a cb, I wouldn't mind a keeper to tbh

As Anzi have put there whole squad up for sale we should look at a couple of there players! I'm sure some will be willing to take a pay cut, Mbark Boussoufa, Lacina Traoré, Etto, Willian and Yuriy Zhirkov would be class, and fill positions they have a few CB's I don't really want Samba and have never heard of the others we need thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unless they take a wage cut, there demands will be FAR too high for us. think about it

I think we should go for a striker like J-Rod who can play on both the wing and up front, I'd love Tello to sign as he'd be a great way to conclude our business this summer, I'd look another CB like Anderwield but that's not really I priority also does anyone know how severe Shaw's injury is?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need someone better than Jay Rod full stop!

Agree0 Disagree0

I meant like in terms of versatility not ability, is also why I suggested Tello!

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay Rod is class, what you been smoking you negative nancy

Agree0 Disagree0

J rod class? what you been smoking obviously you know nothing about football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay Rod is, and always has been, class but who am I to argue with an arrogant no-name.

Agree0 Disagree0

You obviously didn't watch the second half of the season where he was brilliant and a key part of the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know a lot about football and you are obviously a negative nancy, Jay Rodriguez is one of our most talented players and will be even better this season. Might even push for England squad. He just needs to improve his finishing but apart from that he is a very good player. The fact you had to snap at me and say I know nothing about football proves that you are just an angry man. Cheer up. I'll post my site name this time, no doubt you'll respond anonymously again

Samuel Eto rumoured to be available for £5m and is prepared to leave a pay cut.

Could be useful for Saints?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Useful? He'd be amazing with us! 5m? Are you sure?

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi, OP here,

He'd definitely be quite cheap. He's 32 years old and Anzhi are desperate to sell as the look to slash their wage bill by 60%.

Newcastle are interested and the quoted fee required is reportedly in the £5m region. I'd imagine the biggest stumbling block would be wages. He's on about £200k /week at the moment! So he'd have to be prepared to take a massive pay cut (on the plus side, very few clubs would want to pay those wages, so he will have to take a substantial pay cut (60%) if he does want to move). That's why his fee is so cheap, add on a couple million in wages for a 3 year contract to get the true cost of the transfer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah but a pay cut for him is still not affordable! Wasnt he on 300k a week or something ridiculous!

Agree0 Disagree0

He is on £350,000 a week. Our top earner is "reportedly" Ramirez on £50,000.

I think losing £300k a week is more than a cut. Wont happen sadly.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not on £350k a week you cracker! He's on £200k/week.

I agree with you, it would be a stretch. But worth factoring that even if he's paid a high wage, this will be off-set somewhat by his low transfer fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

No one has taken into account that he's a complete person! NOT INTERESTED!

Agree0 Disagree0

More chance of me playing than Eto'o coming here.

Agree0 Disagree0

60% pay cut = 80k a week still, seems like a lot but worth it to have Etto playing for us

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is actually the world's highest paid player on about £350k a week. So a 60% paycut would still be 140k a week. I don't know where that nonsense about him being on 200k came from, Rooney is on more than that at United.}

Aint these big players on a pay per play contract

Agree0 Disagree0

Official wages released when he signed for anzi.
Samuel Eto'o salary breakdown;Per month - £1, 458, 333Per week - £364, 583Per day - £52, 083. Per hour - £2, 170Per minute - £36, 16Per second - £0. 60

So basically the time it has taken me to type this message he has earned around £70. I think I hate him a little bit

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh ok cheers Ed, gues he'd have to take a bigger pay cut than that to join us then!

It says Luke Shaw went off injured today. Hope it didn't look too bad? COYR!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was right in front of me he probably jarred it on the way down as he twisted when he fell. I can't tell if it got trodden on/kicked though.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was his knee that he hurt, and he could well miss the start of the season.

We'll have to wait a few days till we find out. There is potential ligament damage.

Anyone else think that might be our lot?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could be. Could be their lot. Or nobody's lot. Who knows?

Agree0 Disagree0

First reply that's a terrible attempt at humour. Don't quit your day job (unless you are a stand up comic, in which case you're in the wrong job).

To give you a serious answer - I'd like to imagine we've got one or two more to come.

These transfers are often really complicated, so I doubt we've given up on them yet. Damiao has 3rd party issues, Banega will depend on Valencia's financial situation, Osvaldo will depend on how the fans accept him back etc.

Remember Ramirez last year took until deadline day. I've got a feeling a couple of the big names we were linked with are considering Saints as an option (since we've had no flat out rejections on Damiao or Banega) but we wouldn't be their natural first choice, so they are using all the time available to them before committing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also I honestly don't believe we would go public on 3 big targets (Wanyama, Damiao, Banega) if we weren't fairly convinced we could get a couple of them in. Expect one more. Hopefully.

With Shaw being injured and Fox being questionable, anyone fancy John Arne Riise on a free transfer from Fulham?

He's fallen out with Jol so the two have agreed he can leave on a free.

Would be great cover in my opinion and wages would not be a problem.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That would be excellent in my opinion. A big upgrade over Fox. Doubt it will happen, though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Clyne can play LB and Cork or Chambers can play RB, done.

No idea why all these fake rumours keep flying in. Its completely obvious that Poch is done in the transfer window. can't see why he would bring any one else in other than youth players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its obvious because. oh i'm sorry. Did your opinion not reach as far as facts?

They have finished when they tell us they have

Agree0 Disagree0

They will announce when business is competed for the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not quite sure what you are expecting on a rumour site other than rumours.

If you are so convinced Poch is finished in the transfer window, why check a rumour site at all?

And here are a few reasons why he might bring in older players:

- Experience
- Value for money
- Talented

I could go on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Poch confirmed yesterday after the game that he's still in the market for at least one more player.

Re Banega. I don't think the deal is as dead as it might seem. Valencia are in deep trouble financially. The club has debts of around 350m euros and a half finished stadium that they need to find 150m euros to finish. At the end of 2012 they defaulted on an interest payment on a loan guaranteed by the local authority who then claimed to be entitled under the guarantee to take a majority shareholding. However, in January the nationalised bank Bankia won a court case declaring the deal illegal and the majority shares now belong to Bankia. The club asked Bankia to delay further interest payments amid suggestions that if this was not done then the club would have to sell off its best players in the summer. Questions have been asked in the Spanish Parliament about the legality of Bankia (nationalised after the financial crisis and belonging to the Spanish government/people) giving state aid to Valencia CF which would be illegal (anti-competitive) under EU law. Rumour a few days ago that Moyes was interested in Banega if he can't get Fellaini

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's common knowledge they are not the strongest financially but having just sold Soldado for £26m I doubt they are that desperate to sell.

They'd also rather not sell 2 key players in one window.

Also Banega probably isn't too keen on Saints (and I'm a Saints fan, I just think bigger clubs could be in for him).

Agree0 Disagree0

If a big enough offer goes in for Banega, we could sign him. Vallencia are in no position to turn down cash for players, but the new manager wants to build his side around Banega, so his value to the club has gone up.

this is a worrying read for all those that think VW should replace CORK, Hopefully VW will get better, but CORK should not be dismissed to the bench so easily. Every line up put forth on this site since VW was brought has left cork out. Still a big fan of Cork having watched him all season dealing with the BPL. My hope is VW can step up.

"Kenny Shiels, the former Kilmarnock manager. Shiels made some astute signings for Kilmarnock and is entitled to regard himself as a good judge of a player.

One individual he did not rate too highly, however, was Celtic's Kenyan midfielder, Victor Wanyama, who was last week sold to Southampton for £12.5 million two years after arriving from Belgian outfit Beerschot for a mere £900,000. "Any time we played Celtic I would tell our lads not to worry about him being on the ball because he doesn't keep it very well, " Shiels said.

"To my mind, Neil Lennon deserves a knighthood for getting someone to pay £12.5 million for him. We found that, when you gave him space, he just didn't have the natural instincts to know what to do with the ball.

"We would press players like Joe Ledley and Charlie Mulgrew but we just dropped off Wanyama and, most of the time, we got the ball back from him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For goodness sake. Why not just be a little patient and make your own mind up. Who would you rather believe? Kenny Shiels or Pirlo? I could quote a few things he said.

Why is it that you people that like to stir things up fail to register on the site?

It cuts out all the BS.

Come on people, if you want to post on here, then register - it takes a few seconds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha so one person says he's not worth £12.5m and that's that, you don't think he's good enough. Wanyama is a beast, he'll be one of our best players next season and it wouldn't surprise me if big clubs came in for him and offer almost twice as much as we payed!

Mini-Saint

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you should do a little research re Kenny Shiels and his agenda re Celtic before you post your "worrying read".

I would take the assessment of MP and Saints scouts every time over a bitter non entity trying to score points off Celtic. If you don't realise Scottish football is full of such tribal conflicts you know very little about football.

And why is it "persons" like you continue to believe that football is a game about 11 players on each side, and when Saints sign a player it is to replace another player? MP has already shown, during last season, he is pretty astute at being able to change a formation during a game to deal with problems as they develop (remember Chelsea at St. Marys?). You can only do this if you have a SQUAD of players who provide the flexibility to do that. If we sign another forward it will mean Rickie will be on the bench every match?

But then, suppose we should all hang our heads, agree with Mr. Shiels and admit we're doomed! LOL

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely St Christopher, well said. What did Pirlo say out of interest?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why fail to register? Because then they hide behind anonymity and spout meaningless kindergarten or doom-saying drivel!

No signature = nothing said.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can see MP playing all three with Spider as a more forward midfielder much as SD did at the end of last season SRL will play up front and then any two of Gaston Punch Adam or Jay playing along SRL MP will then have options later in the game to push the likes of Punch Adam Lloyd (Isgrove) wide and add pace with Jay and Maka if needed COYR

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting, I agree with all the posts above except the nameless OP. Mini-Saint and Saint Martin, purely out of curiosity, why haven't you registered?

Agree0 Disagree0

Here's the quote from Pirlo (as given by the Daily Record) if anyone is interested: "It might not have been his best game (Celtic losing 0-3 to Juve in the first leg) but being on the same field as Wanyama, you can see he has the ability to be one of the top midfield players in Europe. He has the quality and physical attributes to boss games. In the summer I would expect there to be interest in him from some of the biggest teams in Europe. "

Agree0 Disagree0

More quotes from pirlo

Andrea Pirlo praise for Wanyama
Italian legend Pirlo insists that Hoops powerhouse Wanyama reminds him of a young Patrick Vieira.

Pirlo believes Wanyama will be the biggest threat to Juve in next month’s Champions League last-16 clash.
Pirlo, 33, said: “The only way you can win the Champions League is if you play as a team.

“One player, no matter how talented he is, can’t win you the Champions League alone. What you do need though is individual performances that win games. It is the level where brilliance really comes through.

“We have seen it over recent seasons with players like Lionel Messi, Xavi and Didier Drogba having brilliant individual performances and winning games on their own.

“You need players to step up when you get to the last 16. You need your best players to have great individual games. "

“I look at Celtic and the player you think could do that for them is Victor Wanyama. He is so young, but already he has proved himself to be a big-game player. "

“His performance in the win over Barcelona was exceptional. He is big and can be a presence in the middle with his tackling. "

“But there is also a calmness about Wanyama where he plays the right pass and does the simple things well under pressure. He has the attributes of a young Patrick Vieira. "

“You can see why big European clubs have shown an interest in him. "

“The first game in Glasgow we know will be a tough one, so it is important we don’t let Wanyama control the game in the middle. "

Agree0 Disagree0

Boy, you all got your knickers in a twist, can you all read? I have no agenda against VW, as I said "my hope is VW can step up", I am not wishing this person fail, to the contrary I hope he lives up to all the hype! and we have a great player on our team, but it was more to the point in the post of sticking up for Cork who I thought had a good year last year, yet a lot of people seemed to be willing to drop him to the bench, if VW is as good as the "HYPE" then he will deserve a starting spot. I don't profess to be a VW expert so I scour the pages for all the info on this person. until I get to watch him play for our mighty saints. I read mostly good things, and he had great accolades from some Celtic supporters. But I still had a nagging feeling he still is raw because of the lack of interest from the big clubs, why did they all pass on the Scottish beast?and what I have seen of him personally in games I wasn't overly impressed, but haven't seen enough to make a full judgement. As for Saints scouts, they do not always get it right. de ridder, lee etc. thought Shiels had seen a chink in your Shinning Knights Armour. Just to clarify, I hope VW is going to be a great SFC player.
