The daily fail is so far behind with the times that it's still claiming Adkins job is on the line. At least that confirms it is uninformed nonsense.

Daily mail. The paper that tells you what to think.

If they said the sky was blue I'd demand a recount.

POSSIBLE INS
Astori
Coutinho
Huddlestone
Benayoun
SWP
Butland
Downing (Loan)

POSSIBLE OUTS
Barnard
Sharp
Forte
Martin

Feel free to disagree or add more :)

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I don't think Martin as he's young and will improve.
Seabourne maybe to Charlton on a permenant and possibly Chaplow and Butterfield. De Ridder if the right offer comes in?

Agree3 Disagree0

Out of the list of ins I would only want 2 of those and they are the two we have actually had serious links to in Astori and Coutinho. The rest would be an absolute waste.

Agree1 Disagree0

Unsure how 3m huddlestone is a waste. England international, complete midfielder with games and good coaching. Just needs a coach to pit faith in him, Adkins is perfect.

Agree3 Disagree2

I think Huddlestone would be a great signing, don't understand why everyone thinks we're too good for him just because he can't get into Spur's first team! He's a quality player would love to sign him, if anything would add depth to our small squad

Coutinho's agent could be playing games. Apparently he declared Villa had an interest in the player which Villa denied. Ie if we were to sign him it could mean a long winded process.
Astori keeping options open. Milan said to be sniffing around. Could be a club v player conflict as club will want top offer (Saints bid) and player will want highest wage and most prestigious club (Milan).

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Either could come, both looking unlikely. I hope Cortese and Adkins make a move soon. Currently we are one of the only in trouble teams not taking in players. It's us and Villa.

Are we ever going to sign someone? I mean this is getting ridiculous! Our rivals are all getting in players to become more competitive meanwhile we seem to be sitting around getting linked to players without result!

Believable6 Unbelievable4

We already brought in far more competitive players than the teams around us in the summer that being Yoshida, Rodriguez and Ramirez! Even with the signings Wigan and Reading have made so far they still aren't as competitive as we are...it's a frustrating waiting game for sure but it's one which will work in our favour.

Another day and no new signings, what the hell are the club doing? One more injury/illness at CB and we will have Jos and Martin as our CB pairing against Chelsea.

All I have heard, (and its not that reliable in all honesty) is that Astori deal continues to drag on with the Italians seemingly happy to wait it out - seems plausible given cortese's money haggling approach! Ultimately they know we need a CB and they can hold out for the dosh as January passes by.

Coutinhio deal is apparently a loan with future buy clause inserted.

On a side note, great news about shaw today, shows the club finances are sound if we don't need to sell him! Only concern would be whether his verbal commitment still stands if we are championship by July :p

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Fonte out for 6 weeks apparently. could have been worse, but we really need some cover there

Agree5 Disagree0

We should have never played our 1st team agianst chelsea in the cup that in all honesty we needed to get out of anyway to focus on staying up now look whats happnd one of our main CB's is out for 7 weeks!

Agree4 Disagree5

We should never have played our 1st etc!!

What about the comments after the last cup exit at Leeds-yes, exactly the opposite!!

This constant moaning, with no basis to it is depressing. For goodness sake lighten up and try to be a little more positive.

Agree6 Disagree3

Whats more important league or cup! you wouldnt be saying that if we drop back to championship its just common sense mate!

Agree1 Disagree1

If we drop back to the Championship it won't be because of an injury to ONE player picked up against Chelsea!
Did we play a B side in the cup when we were last in the Premiership and made the final against Arsenal?

Our squad should be capable of doing both league and FA Cup.

Agree1 Disagree0

Thing is if we lose just one game because fonte is injured then yes we could go down if it comes down to just a few points which it looks very possible I can't understand how you can't see that. So in my eyes it would just be common sense to just throw the game and save the fitness and injuries to any of our first team players especially our cb's that we have no decent cover for I would not give a **** if we lost 10-0 against Chelsea! Lets save the cup for when we are stable in the prem or when we have enough quality cover! COYR!!

Agree1 Disagree2

But our squad is not capable of league and cup at the moment as the loss of fonte has proved now its a big rush to sign a cb before our next game.

Agree2 Disagree2

To the guy who thinks we should have thrown the FA Cup against Chelsea, suggest you pop down the road to Fratton Park-you would be at home amongst those "persons".

The FA Cup, the greatest cup competition in the world and the match against Chelsea attracting way over £1m in ticket sales alone. But you have no integrity and think we should have treated those supporters as persons. If you do not understand what the Saints Way is, just keep away from the club until you do.

By the way-Saints won today and gained three points. Would they have gained more than three points with Fonte fit and playing??

Sorry, I do not normally get worked up about silly comments from persons who say they support Saints and yet seem to support some other entity altogether, but the club means something to me, having supported them for over 50 years, and to see such comments that are so far away from what the club is about makes me mad.

Probably the same "person" who has called for Adkins to be replaced today because he is not up to the EPL and that Rodriguez is rubbish! Is it now common practice for ignorant people to have to talk about something they are ignorant of? Suggest you get some knowledge of the subject and then banter would be a little more rewarding.

Would you be sutch a stubborn if two or three key players got injured or banned in that cup game?? I'm just thinking about maxamising our chances in the premiership which without a doubt is the most important thing right now surely? every little advantage helps in our current position i would of thought with all your 50+ years you could of worked that one out by your self! Either you hadn't grasped that logical approach or your just a skate! Trying to cause problems. Don't get me wrong I'm all for saints winning silver ware but I'm not really botherd at all when we are in the mix at the bottom of the table. It's not all about making 1m on the gate we are not a cash strapped club. All quite simple really but here it is again in short ditch the cup this season maxamise our chances of staying up do so and then build a bigger better team move on stronger next season and go all guns blazing for the cup and the league! patience my freind patience ;)

Agree2 Disagree1

"Logical approach"-what absolute rubbish!

You haven't a clue about how Saints are run. You don't understand anything about integrity. I am not talking about £1m in ticket revenue, I am talking about £1m spent by loyal fans who want to see a good, competitive game of football ie. they have bought tickets and expext to be entertained, not ripped off.

I happen to remember the Saints in the FA cup and my last trip to Aston Villa was for the semi finals. This is not some rubbish competition for any club to abuse, and if that is what you think Saints need to do to survive, then you are not clued into the Southampton Way.

Take a look at the team sheet against Chelsea and you will see that Adkins did actually rest some players and I believe his balance of this need and the need to respect the supporters was spot on.

I have over 50 years of patience and am now rewarded to see the club being run in a professional manner with a great future. There will always be a minority who will not buy into what the club stands for. I believe you are one of those, not me.

Quick one word answer please....what is more important league or cup and you cant say both?? {Ed025's Note - league..100%

Agree3 Disagree1

Quick one word answer-if you want to answer your own questions, stand by a mirror rather than post on here.

Your arguement is nonsense, now based on the possible loss of 2/3 players-did it happen? No!

Did we lose against AV, or draw? No!

Could have had all the first 11 doing light training at Staplewood instead of playing at St.Marys and they could have been struck by a meteor! That is the quality of your post.

Sorry, just don't agree with your approach to the game which seems to condone cheating and ripping off the supporters. And it is not a case of either/or. Saints squad is strong enough to finish mid table in the EPL and compete in the FA Cup, especially with the transfer window being open after the FA Cup match.

As for "buying into the club" i have brought both the latest home and away shirts various mugs key rings car stickers ect for that i think iv done my bit! i cant invest in a season ticket due to working most saturdays . I think that has put your accusation of of me not buying into your no sorry our club to bed. Just because southampton fc seems to be your all and only thing in your little world doesnt make you a better saints supporter than every one else. And when you go on about the southampton way like your invold behind the scenes or somthing football is football and it has been for a long time now common sense comes in handy for a hole range of things even football. Cant believe you cant see through the fog persons like you need a scare in regards to sfc in a religation battle common sence and tactical approaches!

Agree1 Disagree1

1. you never answered the one word question. 2.if we did lose anymore players to that cup game we would be in serious trouble . 3. saints hardly sailed away with the game at villa could of easly drawn or lost. 4.light training at staplewood sounds spot on a full freash injury free 1st team ready for the next league game think your getting it now! 5. if you think football is free of curruption then then your not in the real world my freind ie dodgy transfers, diving, bungs, etc when there is money involed there will be sorry to say curruption. and mid table finish spose thats a guarantee now youve said so is it. 5.im getting bored of all this now so ta ta! up the saints!

Agree0 Disagree1

Well, that about sums up the type of "supporter" you are!
You try and make a questionable point and when someone disagrees with that you start to become abusive.
Perhaps if you were paying out to actually go and watch Saints on a regular basis you would not think it such a good idea to have spent around £50 to see a reserve team throw a match 10-0!

I believe Adkins got it spot on. He did rest a player or two but he still put out a side which was competitive, and which a near capacity crowd could enjoy watching. Yes, one CB was injured but Jos came in at Villa and did a good job. Plus 2 CBs returned from loan. Plus, at least 1 CB should be signed this window. Plus, Saints did win against Villa. Pretty good tactical approach and common sense in my opinion.

Saints are now 15 in the league, why don't you use your common sense and assess whether that is a false position? In my view (in my little world), the current squad is better than any team below them. I also think they are better than Fulham, West Ham, Norwich above them, and I believe by the end of the season their league position will show this. So, my view is that we are already a mid table side and with the sort of additions I expect by the end of the month I would be surprised if we don't achieve that. That is not the kind of quality that can't have a go at progressing in the FA Cup.
