Ron Vlaar is about to undergo a knee operation. Might be a dodgy signing so no wonder Les is not interested.

Does anyone know what date our first Europe League game will be? I'm missing both our home games in August so hoping the Europa tie is a home one and squeezes into July. Could it? I know the draw is next Fri (17th). Thanks.

I know for a fact that the second leg is the 6th August therefore the first leg should be 2 weeks before being 23rd July

I'm sure from memory that Saints are in the third qualifying round, and as such the game would be at the end of this month (July 30th)

Can't believe so many people are against getting Ron Vlaar, he will come here as a free agent and probably get him on a pretty reasonable salary . He is a top quality brick wall type defender that was arguably the best player in the last world cup only a year ago . He had an injury last season that really made him struggle but the Villa still played him out of desperation . He is a totally dedicated top class defender of international standing who plays for one of Europe's best teams . Ronald knows the player well and if he wants him at Saints his decision is good enough for me . I agree he is not the quickest but that's why we need a quick footed defensive midfielder to clear up in front of the back four . I would welcome Ron here but also agree that we need another younger CB to come in and don't forget with Ron's experience he will be able to teach the younger players a few tricks.

rumours are still going around yeah, but nothing will happen until we fill the stadium we are in now for a whole season like Ralph said. plus I know the club have plans for a stadium like that. seeing as other clubs are moving to modern stadiums, the club will want to expand and have more fans in the stadium. problem being even though we could fill it because we do have over 50000 fans would it be full every week? I think they plan on expanding the brand first. Then maybe 3-4 years or before depending they will either expand current stadium or if they get the right land they will build a new stadium.

Every parish around Southampton is having to make plans for extra housing. My "local" is Swanmore and another 300 here-70+ in build at the moment. Same sort of numbers all around and many more on the edges of the more urban areas.

The club will have a business plan which factors in this sort of population growth because as well as schools etc. many will want a top football club to support. The "product" will need to be attractive to make sure it is Saints that will attract them. The club will have full details of expected population growth and will organise stadium capacity accordingly. It is no accident that our owners decided to invest in Saints.
The other critical factor is the access to St. Marys and that has been a growing problem. Southampton Council will need to seriously consider redeveloping much of the surrounding area to enable 40-50k supporters to get in and out quickly and comfortably.
