All i'm going to say is that last year when we signed players the club didn't put it up on the website until such times as 5-6 sometimes later just a thought though :s it just seems to me if we do sign someone I don't expect it to be revealed early I expect it to be put up on the website at like 5 or 6 idk why. sorry if you don't agree.

I'm sorry I'm sort of struggling to understand the post. Are you basically saying that when we sign players the club doesn't tend to reveal them immediately but wait to reveal several in one go? This would be a reasonable theory based on what happened last season with most of the signings coming in two spurts. But I think that may have just been coincidence based on the timings that players were available to sign. This season we will probably see them announced in waves because we are trying several players at once all likely to take similar lengths of time to wrap up.

I *think* Luda is saying that if there is an announcement this week, it will probably come later in the day, rather than in the morning.

Agree0 Disagree0

No - he/she was trying to say that they don't announce them in the morning. They wait til like 5-6pm after all the contract signing/photo shoot is done.

At least that's what I think he/she meant. who knows.

Re this:
"Some interesting decisions to be made over the next weeks/months as Saints prepare for a new season. Understand that the club has indicated that Ramiez can go - he hasn't settled in England - and that the weekend media story is true. Also understand that Shaw may well leave over the summer (ignore all the whinging "he won't leave, he loves the club" tedium). Shaw will clearly want to go if someone like Manchester United or Chelsea or Arsenal come in for him. Expect a large Oxlade-Chamberlain size fee, paid over a 3 year period.

Most of the clubs targets will be Spanish or Italian or South American players but Saints might well snap up Squillaci on a free. Saints were linked with him in January on a loan deal but a permanent signing is on the cards, albeit on a 1-year contract with an option for one more year.

Looks like Icardi from Sampdoria might be a loan signing to excite the fans. Highly rated young forward. Plus there are plans to bring in a midfielder and a winger but not likely to be household names. Don't expect Southampton to spend more than £7 or £8 million on any single player. "

Posted in full so I can comment, without the drivel from the deluded below. The truth is too many fans act and talk like the chavs they are. Hence some of the rubbish in the replies

Have to disagree with much of what you say. Having said that, you are exactly right about how transfer fees are paid. Whether or not fans like it, transfer fees are paid over years. The Oxlade-Chamberlain deal was a perfect example - the full fee was not payable as one lump sum - whatever clubs claim in public. But the "Championship Manager" fans can't come to terms on that.

Too true that Squillaci was linked to us in January but that was in the middle of a crisis, when a number of sources were linking the club with any number of players.

And possibly right about the money being spent. I can't see us spending lots of money on one single player. that's too much of a gamble.

As for Shaw - I think he will stay but its possible he might be tempted to go. Not sure about Ramirez. The story in the press does smack of truth.

And Icardi does not play for Sampdoria. He moved to Inter in April and is unlikely to go on loan outside of Italy

What's the weather like up there, on your high horse?

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have saved a lot of time if you had said-"you have an agenda, you post a few bits of information which seem to support that agenda, but it is still your agenda, and very unlikely to happen".

Similarly, anything to do with the OC transfer has no relevance to the situation re. Shaw. OC was a young player in a hurry to play EPL, and didn't see that opportunity for him at Saints. Shaw is exactly the OPPOSITE! But, as they say, don't let the facts get in the way. LOL

What is a "household" name in football, these days?
Suppose if you are a Chelsea supporter it must be "Nanni!" or "Parker!" LOL

we have entered the betting odds on Ashley Williams would we like to see him in a saints shirt???

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No Saints haven't. He was being looked at by some big clubs. Can't see him leaving Swansea for Saints, currently that would be a lateral step and he's happy at Swansea.

I'm a Saints fan btw. Can see us signing some European CBs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ashley Williams 50/1 Southampton check if you don't believe me I don't put pointless stuff on

Agree0 Disagree0

50-1, we must be getting him then!

Agree0 Disagree0

Wonder why this has been put in the 'Banter' section then.

Must be true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't mind him, he's class

Agree0 Disagree0

Did not say we were getting him but you claimed we were not linked in the betting aka accusing me of falsifying which I was not

Agree0 Disagree0

Ref. this post, and the one below, did I miss the signing of Big Sam, and Saints chucking out their youth policy?

betting odds with saints
le fonder 10/1
c. cole 20/1
crouch 10/1
mcgeady 20/1
Ashley Williams 50/1
anelka 33/1
scott Sinclair 7/1

would personally take 3 from the list in Sinclair, mcgeady and williams

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldn't really want any of them unless as back up.

Sinclair and possibly Williams. Think we can get some bargains in the European market though (which Poch and Cortese know quite well).

Agree0 Disagree0

No way are we in for Le Fondre or Cole! They are really not our types.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take Crouchy back. Can always do a job from the bench

Agree0 Disagree0

Yh I'd take crouch, sinclair and williams

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree better options than le fondre and cole in the squad don't think crouch would be a good signing either though better options available would rather we bring in a young hungry striker then bring back an old boy for 1 last swansong

Agree0 Disagree0

Anelka? That's ridiculous! So far outside of the Cortese "young player with reasonable wage demands" and the Pochettino "high work rate" philosophies that it makes me wonder what the bookies have been smoking.
