What number will Lambert wear for England? Getting his name on my England shirt of course.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Strikers for Eng are usually 9, 10, 21 and 22. So:

10 = Rooney
9 = Welbeck

21 & 22 = Lambert & Defoe

That's assuming Rickie won't start. I hope he does but Welbeck/Defoe will probably start ahead of him : (

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm pretty sure his number won't be 7, though it should be.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Defoe is injured? Presumably if Rooney is "injured" United won't want him playing the 90 minutes, I assume the same with Welbeck, so hopefully he will get at least the second half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Number 20!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's wearing number 20

Its going to be a tough game on Saturday as West Brom have brought in some decent strikers. Anelka has scored a few in pre-season so our defence need to up their game to stop him scoring! Come on Saints!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. They are a good side. We need something to push is forward. Not sure what we have is enough.

I know rickie has got his england call up. but I really think jay rod deserves a chance to prove himself. finished the season in fine style, and has a quality pre-season so far.
come on roy hodgeson, keep your eyes out at st marys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rose tinted glasses I think. Rickie is immense and brings a lot of different weapons to the table. Jay Rod has some pace but simply isn't good enough to dream of playing for England. If we get a top striker, he'll be a squad player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh I don't know, he is a good player and I should think he has a chance in the future, but he has got to do a bit more than have a good second half of a season and a good couple if games in ore season. Rickie has been called up because he has proved he can perform at every level over many years, consistently

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree with first comment. I think jay rod is quality and very skillful, but he needs a good season in the prem first.

If he has a good season this year and scores 15+ goals, then he'd be in with a shout.

As it stands he's far down the pecking order of strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Most England strikers are recognised for their talent at a much younger age than Jay Rod is. Rickie is an exception for his all round ability which is unusual.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets give Jay a couple of years to develop before he gets a call up. I'm happy for Rickie to get the nod, but feel Jay-Rod needs time to grow before being blessed/cursed with an England call up, and all the baggage that goes with it. I have to say that he could do with working on his composure. Recently he's done all the hard work, and then tends to hit the keeper. That said he has huge potential and it's easy to forget that he's only just turned 24.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay Rod is good enough for England, but won't get picked because he's not one of the over-hyped bundle England like. Lambert is one who has slipped through the cracks and that is how it will be until we get a good England manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

J-rod has everything except what a striker needs which is finishing! he scored a couple of good goals but if u looked at the shots before the goals he scored they were weak. a good AM but not a ST

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay rod would gain so much experience from being involved in the england set up. even if he plays 20 mins etc. the training will enhance his talent.
not all strikers need to score 15+ goals a season. so many more can create chances, which is something england lack.
jay rod will do well, playing behind a front 2

Agree0 Disagree0

I love saints as much as anyone and I have been very frustrated over the years with our best players being overlooked for England. But Jay Rod is not among them. If he has a blinding season this season, then maybe. But he does need to sort out his finishing and use his pace to time those runs and get in behind more often.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally don't think Jay Rod is quite ready yet. Hopefully if he has a great season and scores plenty he will. be overlooked as per usual with us. have the full national papers supportive and then finally given an opportunity in 2015! That said I still don't know what glasses Hodgson is wearing when he picks Wellbeck. He is like Bambi on ice when he gets the ball at the moment!
