Has Van Der Vaart joined Real Betis? I think he'd be a great signing if he's still available on a free?

{Ed007's Note - He's signing for Real Betis on the 1st July.}

Thanks for your replies guys but I know what you mean that it seems like a step backwards but not so sure myself considering the performances of some of our loan signings . I just feel as an impact player Rickie has still got it even if only for short periods of the game whether it be for the last 20 minutes or for 60 minutes from the start depending on the opposition but mainly in the European games and keeping the main squad fresh and fit . I don't personally think that we have any interest in Ings and never did and that Austin will go somewhere for bigger money . I repeat what I said that Rickie is not the perfect solution but for the cheap money we could get him for including wages but with his personal dedication to the game and the club we can't go wrong, we know what he did for us so the risks in giving him another go are almost non existent . If we get to the start of the season and can't get the player Koeman is after as a recognised goal scoring forward he'd be an asset. Probably won't happen but surely it's not a ridiculous idea is it?

It's not a ridiculous idea by any means, but it would only work as a temporary solution, I think that's the issue. Ideally a younger striker, one who can be bedded in and will develop, as well as gain value as we know the club likes that too.

Rickie will always be a club legend as there's no doubt we'd all love to see him in a Saints shirt again. I guess you can never say never anyway!

Does anybody think it would be worth having Rickie back to use in our European campaign? He would come cheap and I think be very useful against foreign opposition as most of them play a much slower game than the PL . He is a very clever player and reads the game very well and let's face it his penalty record and his dead ball skills are second to none and they haven't all disappeared in a year. I know most would say he is getting past it but many players older than him are still doing it at the top level and successfully at that . If JRod as we are led to believe is back for the start of the new campaign they also know each others game inside out which would be a bonus and Rickie always stays fit and avoids injury much more than many of our younger players . I am not saying this would be the perfect answer to improve our rather thin squad but for what it would cost to have him back I see no risk in it at all and the players still here from before he left would all open the door gladly to him . He was and always will be a team player and I can you promise you this he would never go missing in a game or ever let you down . Thoughts??

He'd be good off the bench of course, but is it not a step back? I think we are all hoping another striker comes in, but we need someone who is already prolific and that's just had a strong season. Unfortunately Rickie has been treated very poorly by Liverpool, perhaps he knew he was only ever going to get a bit part role, but he deserves to be the main man for a club somewhere else.

I'd be more than happy with this!

Ricky made his bed now he can lay in it.he said himself he was at his best and fitter than he had ever been when at Southampton so he should have stayed. Ings and Austin are saints fans born and bred but neither have jumped ship because of that.

13 Jun 2015 17:29:19
Didn't realise Austin was a Saints fan, that puts us in good stead for signing him

13 Jun 2015 18:41:37
Hopefully st sam but if he did wot Ricky did then we would already know he is coming but where other clubs are in the running means he ain't told his agent there's only one place for him witch is why I'm against Ricky coming back.

Take it also as a positive sign that the club's being most heavily linked with Austin currently are Newcastle and Chelsea. As Ralph said in his interview last week Saints keep transfer business quiet, so if our interest is serious we'll only know about it if a deal is struck.

Austin has never been a saints fan. And ings was released by saints as a school boy. Born and bred in Winchester.

15 Jun 2015 20:21:20
Both are saints fans fact.
Everybody knows ings was released when he was younger.

I Grew up with Wayne bridge and know 100% he supported Liverpool until he was spotted by saints when he was 12. Where is your fact on Austin being a saints fan? He was born in Berkshire and was at reading youth before being released, so based on your theory of people from Winchester being saints fans, Austin is a reading fan.
Walcott is from Stanmore in London and grew up supporting Liverpool as he dad was a Liverpool fan. lol please don't assume what you think is fact when it's clearly not.
Oh and Craig David used to be fat and everyone told him to pipe down at school cause he wouldn't stop singing

16 Jun 2015 14:19:37
Did I say Wayne bridge was a saints fan NO I did not just stated the obvious like u did and said he also was from winchester. And if u knew bridge so well u will know he was by far one of the worst on the pitch when he got picked but because the scout was looking for a left footed left back bridge got picked.I know Austin is a saints fan from dave Merrington and also when we were in the championship Austin did a piece in a paper were he said he was a Southampton fc fan so he said it in a report and dave Merrington stated that he would be a good buy along with ings because there both supporters of saints.

Lol the fat one used to be a goal keeper and I was in school with him. my girlfriends nan and grandad lives in winchester and know Walcotts parents I never said any of them were saints fans just that they were living in Winchester when they made the academy.

{Ed003's Note - We don't do copy and paste and certainly not from wiki sorry.}

Also bridge was scouted for a while not just 1 game where supposedly he was the worst player on the pitch . he played as a left winger. Was only changed to left back after he joined saints.
This could go on for a while lol
i do admire your eagerness as a saints fan 👍🏼.
Is the 87 bit your birth year?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 00:22:19
87 is the first year I was able to go to a saints game mate and bridge was a left back but if u call him a winger ok then.
I think u will find a winger and a left midfielder is two different roles on a pitch.
But the point is the same I was talking about ings and Austin being saints fans then u when on about ings being released when he was younger witch is what most know but have nothing to do with who they support so I just started stating facts that had nothing to do with what I was saying.
Lol to think I was talking about lambert in the first place

17 Jun 2015 00:25:00
And again where did I say Walcott was born in Southampton I said when Walcott was drafted into the academy his parents were living in Winchester.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 00:27:43
And just so u know 433 plays with winger's and a 442 witch nearly every team in England played with back then use left and right midfielders

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 06:43:00
Lol while he was playing for Oliver's battery( where he got spotted by Micky Adams) and for kings school he was a left winger . Like I said he only got changed to left back when he joined saints .

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2015 06:44:42
you said 'Walcott was from Winchester'
Which he's not. The obvious that you were stating was not obvious lol

17 Jun 2015 06:49:51
Eds what's you knowledge on Austin being a saints fan? Lol

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not a clue, I am not sure it matters too much who a player supports when they are a boy, once they turn pro their allegiance tends to change. Look at that little *censored* Michael Owen and his comments recently about thinking of himself as a Liverpool player. This is a lad that used to turn up to training at Liverpool in an Everton kit. Not that I believe his comments in the slightest, just saying it is clear he no longer really regards himself as an Everton fan first and foremost, or he would never have even made that comment.}
